If it's any consolation, they're sitting on a similar eyesore in a part of Dublin where developers can't build apartments quick enough.

Driven past it a couple of times in the last week... there is nothing there, you'd never think a hotel ever sat on it. An empty field with a bit of rubble.
Went by it today. Good to see it gone.
Haven't had a working camera since teh end of the summer. But am going past it daily and it is just a boring patch of rubble yeah.
Is there going to be a lengthy interval before anything new is done with the place? Which would maintain the frustration of having an empty building taht had its windows all continually brken sitting in a space that could relieve a few problems in cliose proximity if something else was done with it. One could level the place do something about the surfacing and have the public buses and coaches stopping there at least on a temporary basis or something. Though probably involves signing more permanent paperwork. Student building probably take a lot longer to do. How long since it actually closed and had something done that remains as useless and is that any indication of how much longer before anything positive is done with it?
But any delay just gives one a great opportunity for armchair town planning which is bound to be useful.
there's rumors GMIT are putting a Ball Alley there but I doubt it. there's enough of them around.
Would need a change of planning /zoning for that. Not saying it wouldn't happen, just the Comers are not known for doing anything like that. Then again, with the vacant site levy coming maybe it's cheaper to go that route for them
I think that's what they're building over the road in Gaelscoil Dara.

Nothing will happen that land until the Comers sell it for a profit. They have owned the sentinel tower in Sandyford in Dublin for years, a carcass of an apartment block in one of the most in demand place in the country for accommodation. Still a carcass today. Absolutely fed up with them.
The Comer brothers are a **** scourge and the people of Galway should be ashamed of them.

They've done well for themselves but they've done **** all for Galway, even worse they've held the City and County back sitting on sites like the Corrib and Shannon Oaks. You'd love for someone as wealthy as them to show a bit of love and altrusim for where they came from, but no... they're just money hungry ****. Good riddance to them when they leave this earth.
They do sponsor Galway United and have contributed to the upgrade of EDP when no one else would bother.

Investing their pocket money in what is, with all due respect, a minority sport in galway. Which only benefits the few hundred that show up to EDP does not balance out the eyesores they have created during a time of unprecedented development in the city

The period of unprecedented development was the celtic tiger years. There's been relatively little development in the last 10 years.

Nothing and unlikely to be for many years based. The Comers are not known for being quick
They have done nothing with the Odeon site on the east side of Eyre Square, AFAIK.
They have done nothing with the Corrib Great Southern site.
They don't seem to be property developers? In that, I don't see them doing much development
They don't really do anything indeed. They buy, hold and then sell on. Absolutely wasters they are.

I really dont get the anger towards the Comers. If it wasn't them doing this, it would be someone else.
Get angry with the council/government/planners. They're the ones allowing this.
At least the Comers do put something back into Galway sports. Not saying that makes everything better, but the land could be hoarded by some faceless international fund, who put 0 back into Galway.
Something is greater than nothing
Your overall point is correct, the council/government are ultimately responsible. But the Comers are still a disgrace. The power and money they have but they still contribute to the dereliction of large parts of the city.
Some would say they are investing shrewdly. How much has that site increased in value since purchase?
There are no large parts of the city which are derelict.
Where are the large derelict areas? Out of interest.
