Did you not get the memo, all ipas have to be hazy now.
It seemed like an interesting and fun experimental variation when it started. I'm all for that kind of thing. But now, we are where we are. And I don't like it! I'm sure the craft beer industry isn't bothered by my opinion, though.
I've just looked out and there aren't even any clouds to yell atπ
Fashion changes.
Shout at an IPA. They are all cloudy now π€£
It's all kinda muddled up these days anyway. If you want a non hazy IPA there are pales out there way hoppier than a classic IPA.
Lol, didn't think of that!
You know, it would have all been fine if they just called the new style something else.
I feel the same about hoppy lager. I remember lecturing a brewer once because he just couldn't understand that the average customer thinks lager is a flavour and not a beer that has been "lagered" and it was only causing agro to advertise it as "Breezy's Lager" when it has a strongly hoppy flavour.
Indeed, but we are a long, long way from almost all lagers being hoppy while being called simply, "lager".
Although there is Brooklyn Lager. Haven't had that in years. But that's an oddity, every brewer in the world didn't start making this new style of lager!
Ya I was alluding to what you were saying about it having a different name.
God I haven't had Brooklyn in ages. Might get a few tonight. Loved it back when craft beer in a pub was a relatively new thing.
Good point! Can you call it pale ale when it's cloudy-opaque-custardy-yellow?
I give you black IPA.
(which doesn't bother me as it's always clearly stated and they haven't replaced IPA - and I like the style π)
No one releases a black IPA and just calls it IPA.
RIP Coalface black IPA π₯
Anyone able to recommend a similar beer to this please? I used to love it when I lived in Australia but getting it here just isn't a runner.

Lineman/ Mark is pretty much anti-haze iirc from the zoom times and their releases?
Really miss this, especially as it could somehow end up in the family tesco shop!
Lineman definitely tend to focus on clear, bitter west coast IPAs. Always find their prices are at the high end of the scale though, for day to day drinking beers.
Based on the descriptions online it sounds like you're looking for a hoppy brown ale or a black IPA. Our Brewery have a lovely brown ale out at the minute, not sure if they are on sale in the south though. Kinnegar Black Bucket is the gold standard for black IPA but might be a little stronger and hoppier than that beer (it's rabbit themed at least though).
Thanks for the recommendation on Kinnegar. I'll check it out.
When you say "our brewery"?
I mean Our Brewery. Terrible name for a company, imo.
They're not sold in the south yet, AFAIK.
From the people who thought "Get 'Er Brewed" was a good name for a company.
At least they aren't cracking hilarious jokes about Muff.
Had chieftain IPA today for the 1st time in about 6 years.
Has it gone down hill since being sold or has it always been bad and my taste buds changed? Or the IPA offering improved across the market to out perform it?
Got the 4 pack in lidl and not planning on finishing it anytime soon.
There were some comments a while back about Ri Ra.
The marketing blurb refers to Larkins as their "North Wicklow independent brewery" and "in collaboration with a previous Master Brewer at Guinness."Β

Craic Beer Community has launched a new project, Sesh Beer Co:
They may have pigeon holed themselves quite early on in the game.
Curious expansion for the project, going from collabs with breweries to apparent contract brewed bitter / red ale to this label.
It's Brian himself for these one's rather than a craic community brew. Also afaik the bitter and red IPA were the same as the earlier collabs, with Hope (I seem to recall voting for a Bitter anyway!).
There was a subtle difference in that CBC was the primary brand for the ESB and IPA while Hope was the production brewery rather than a collaborator. The previous ones were beers by Hope, Dead Centre, Lineman and Ballykilcavan with CBC as collaborator.
Whatever it is, the branding on those cans is absolutely woegeous.
Looks to be squarely aimed ad the festival seshmoth crowd I suppose, but two days in a tent warm pils and "sesh" ipa would be horrible.
But straight from my fridge when I'm hosting a barbecue, or just chilling in the garden of a sunny summer's evening? Might be just what the doctor ordered.
more power to you friend, people should absolutely drink what they want.
Sure. But paying premium prices for weak beer has no appeal to me...
If I saw a brewery I didn't recognize trying to seel beer for the "craic" or the "sesh" I would definitely assume that it's some macro trying con me.
The percentage of a beer doesn't bother me but sessionable so often means weak flavour with macro or the "invested in" craft.
The branding wouldn't be for me, but I'll reserve judgement on the beer until I try them. In fairness to Brian, I know he homebrews and was quite involved in the craic collabs/ contract (delete as you feel appropriate).
