Feels like the right time to start a new thread for next year's gigs.
John Mayer playing the 3Arena on 29 March 2024.
There was a meltdown when the US leg of her tour was sold via Dynamic Pricing so I don't think that'll be in place, I'm not even sure our laws would allow it (selling tickets for above face value, depending on how you define face value)
face value isn’t defined in the touting legislation.
the term “original sale price” is what used and it’s defined as
(a) the price for which a ticket or ticket package was sold by a primary ticket seller and includes any additional charge or fee applying to the sale of the ticket or ticket package
so no law against platinum or dynamic pricing.
realistivally you might see like for harry styles at Slane that seats are sold as “official platinum” for extra €100 over the standard face value for a seat in that block
I'm pretty sure dynamic pricing was in play for Slane. My daughter was trying to buy tickets when the went on sale and got offered general admission at more than she and her friends had budgeted for as their maximum. They took some time discussing it, and then decided to pay the higher amount, but when the searched for tickets again they got Gold Circle (lowest tier enclosed pit just behind the three premium pits) for €20 a ticket less than the price they had previously been quoted for general admission.
Dynamic pricing has been in place for a few gigs that I've seen in Ireland but I don't think it's near as prevalent as it is in the US. Blink 182, RHCP, Harry Styles all had it for example
Dynamic ticketing only works when there is red hot demand for an artist in a particular venue.
Surely it works if there's not, but the prices go down and it's the punters who get the benefit. That must be how it works, right? Right?! 😝
Foo Fighters UK tour announced, no Ireland
Probably announced in European summer run. Bit early to announce when big venues here haven’t finished up there runs just yet
Yet. Theres a Slane shaped hole there.
Muse date announced in the 3 arena Wednesday 27th September
2023 gig.
More likely they will be adding on a second Manchester and third London date
id imagine a marlay park gig would be more likely
This is a disgrace and needs to be looked at
Nothing will happen.
More soapboxing from our useless politicians.
Whilst I agree that hotels are gouging, this is just a TD trying to grab some limelight. If you look on booking.com there's only 9 hotels available, most just haven't started taking bookings that far out yet
(But obviously I'm not saying they won't be gouging, just that the current story of 3a little misleading)
It's all down to capacity.
If I go to any gigs in the Britain (ie not NI) I'll typically pay £100 or less if it's in or close to the city. Nearer £50 if it's a motorway service station.
I cannot see any legal way they can bring in price restrictions in Ireland. I'll drive home from Dublin (160+km) or even Belfast (330+km) to get back to my own bed rather than pay hotel prices anywhere in Ireland
Agreed, there is no legal method of doing this.
People need to chose, not to stay, which isn’t going to happen either.
Hotel pricing is now dynamic, just like flights, it has been that way for years, its a supply -> demand - algorithim. In the case of hotels it has gotten worse, as less beds available, as many used for emergency accomadation etc, and not enough Dublin hotels in particular, so the current supply to demand deficit, is not going to change, anytime soon.
I also drive for 3 hours, or bus it, for most of the Dublin gigs i go to. Exception is Sunday night gigs, when Dublin hotels are way lower.
Just checked Liverpool the week before, other than hostels and private apartments, there's 2 properties under 330 euro.
Every room in both cities will be booked as well.
Ticket pricing is also dynamic now but that didn't stop them introducing flawed legislation here.
Too many vested interests for the Govt to tackle hotel prices though.
Don't think it is unique to Ireland. I was in Amsterdam a while back on a weekend when there was a festival on in the city. The cheapest room we could get was around €300 a night and that was about 10-15 mins from city centre. Anything in the city centre was north of €300 a night, 4 and 5 starts were north of €400. I don't know who would take them at that price, but6 obviously people do.
You're right, its not.
I go to the Edinburgh Fringe each year and the hotel costs are eye-watering compared to their usual prices. To the point that the Fringe is on the verge of an existential crisis as talent can't even afford to stay in the city.
Yep, most hotels on booking sites don't release their rooms more than a year in advance. Come September there'll be way more rooms available for July 2024....
I went to a huge metal festival in Madrid a few years back, 100k easily at it. I stayed in an apartment for the weekend in the city centre for €250 between 3 of us.
Been happening for years in Dublin, I remember going to a gig in Dublin in 2002 and needing to get a lift back to Citywest to find an affordable hotel
Extra dates added to Paris and Lyon with special guests Paramore (4 nights in a row in Paris), be great if she brought Paramore to Dublin
She is alright. An extra date added too on the Sunday. This is for Taylor Swift btw
Can see maybe Aerosmith been the 2024 version of 'the Rock gig in Marlay Park'
Sellin 15000 tickets to a 40k capacity?
If GNR and Crue/Leppard can do it why not
