My only criticism would be that he lacks a bit of personality, he's analysis is excellent but he's a bit too serious but maybe that's a bit unfair, when he's talking about shape and tactics etc, it's kinda hard to jazz it up.
Surprised he hasn't gone into coaching, seems like he'd be excellent at it
I enjoyed Damien and Richie too but I do feel they gave the players a free pass for Friday. Some of the lack of courage on display on the ball was shocking.
Enjoyed today's GAA podcast. Might not be as energetic or chaotic as the hurling episodes but the 2 lads really know their stuff and I always enjoy Murph's contributions on GAA content
I thought Doherty was a bad player to choose though. I would just be saying up Doherty "why haven't you played more than 16 minutes since January?". It's funny how people were clamouring for him to be playing ahead of Coleman and in recent years it's become obvious that he isn't that good.
You don't hear Ger Gilroy being quoted on the show very often (ever?)
I wonder Eoin was biting his tongue when Paul referenced Gilroy or maybe they get on with each other.
'Wildcard round' does sound better than 'Preliminary Quarter Final' but doesn't make any sense as there's nothing wildcard about it
They mention Off the Ball (the current OTB) occasionally in reference to a quote of whatever, don't think the lads are bothered about mentioning it or not.
They do, but relations were very bad with Ger Gilroy himself. Don’t know if time has healed things
Really? I thought they left on good terms with him, they just don't hang around as mates now
Gilroy is a weasel.
No, seemingly no relationship any more. Gilroy did a big piece in one of the Sunday papers maybe a year ago, he mentioned how the second captains lads were all at his wedding but there is no relationship anymore... I don't think it's antagonistic, just took different paths...
I think we're saying the same thing. I remember that interview, it was the one where Paul Kimmage 100% correctly questioned OTB spreading itself way (way) to thin, and also Gilroy said (presumably with a straight face) that Joe Molloy is the best sports broadcaster in Ireland. I remember wondering what the other 25 members of team OTB thought of that.
I'd love to see Jamie Wall on the Sunday Game. He'd stir a few feathers. Don't always agree with what he says but he'll call it like it is
They could use the tactics screen to show Simpsons memes.
Yeah he is good. I did miss Mal though to call him up on stuff. I felt like Murph was just saying "yep" every minute or so.
He's actually eased up a bit on The Simpson references to be fair and calmed down a bit on saying 'like' 8,000 times a minute
Yeah was hoping Mal would be on today, He bounces very well off Jamie. Murph was just going with whatever he says, although Jamie did speak a lot of common sense today in fairness , suppose there wasn't really much to disagree with him with
😂😂😂😂
that's the best one I've heard in a while, bravo! you should somehow tweet it to Jamie, I'd say he'd get a kick out of it
Murph and Sinead 'O Carroll failing miserably to generate any interest in the women's World Cup.
When I ever I hear him on OFTB it’s sounds like he has either read or listened to Ken and is stealing his view points #ViewPointThief
Sounds like an issue you have yourself, nothing wrong with the pod today. Interviewed two of the players, and a journalist about it. I thought it was a good show, and Murphy sounded genuinely excited. I'm looking forward to it, just a pity the match times aren't great.
I agree very much with Sinéad that women's sport is very important for society.
Lots of this type of energy....
Wouldn't be surprised if Murph was rocking a foam finger!
I enjoyed it, and I hadn’t paid much attention to the WC previously.
You can find the episode boring while also considering women's sport important, the two aren't mutually exclusive.
Point taken.
Murph always struggles on his own and Sineád is as bland as she is unlikeable.
Strange choice by The Journal for the role of "craic correspondent".
Oh wait, she's the editor and there's a couple of weeks all expenses paid in Australia going begging.
..
Meeow
far more interested in women’s World Cup than the fake World Cup in France this autumn- haven’t heard todays episode but can’t possibly be as boring as the corporate newspeak fest the rugby lads will be cooking up for their preview.
really is a a shame all irelands group games are on in the morning on workdays
I think the build up for sporting tournaments is generally awful. Yeah we can all be excited but really all the chat is about imagination. Your asking the players what do they imagine might happen. Nonsense. It's grand that we can escape into that world for a bit but its really nonsense.
Mens soccer and rugby gets more of a pass because so much more is known of all the players and goings on but go back to the build up pods to euro 2016 and in the cold light of day it'll seem really dull.
Build ups can be helped by the best pieces of writing/chat by the likes of Ken or Jonathan Wilson.
At least the rugby world cup will include the best teams in the world of their sport. The women's one will have teams who would be beaten by a local u-11 boys team.
There's something about Sinead O'Carroll I just can't take to.
