Great performance. Some lambs must be well ready for sale?
how are you for grass at the moment?
im very very tight to the point sheep and lambs are staying in a field a day too long. No major pick up in growth yet. Found after the silage and first big round of grazing that grass never recovered. It’s going to stem unbelievably quick this year
Weaning the lambs tomorrow, average wt 35kgs, average lambing date 10th march, happy enough.
They got .25kg meal/day for 2or 3 weeks through the worst of the weather to stop the grass from flying through them
Somtimes we Power wash them here with cypergard (none op) lasts 2 weeks,if your looking for a month vector or ectofly pour on be ideal
always use a power washer here to apply dip on sheep
A lad in work for does fill up a barrel of dip and apply with power washer
I've used a knapsack and found it good. Concentrate the spray around the tail-end, up the back and across the shoulders. Get the nozzle down into the wool too...
Have used a watering can in the past..squeeze them tight into a pen and leave them shake onto each other..knapsack would be a good job but slow I'd say..be a long time getting them wet...less waste than watering can I'd imagine
Anyone here spray there ewes with dip using a knapsack? Won’t be shearing for another month and flys starting at sheep again so was thinking spray them each with a cover of dip would work ?
There was another model that had a couple less features. I think after tams and vat back it would leave you out of pocket about 12k. Only thing different was it didn’t tilt and didn’t have the wheels for moving.
**** that . Was Stanley engineering there ? Any price on a new portable sheepeze ?
22k plus the vat
How much was the clipex handling unit ?
There's not many sheep paddocks around the yard mostly kept for dairy.
It's not the same problem in cattle at least, not sure whether they're the same or not
I saw you there from me wrangler.
clever thinking of the college in fairness regards worm resistance. Are they not the same worms that affect sheep and cattle though?
tbh I didn’t find the ground as bad as some of ye are saying. Got caught in a couple of hollows alright but didn’t pass any remarks at the time really
Indeed I was, my knees are wrecked after it, Our producer Group is 50 years in business so the organisers gave us a free stand as a gesture, We had to give a help there.
I also gave a help to a vendeen breeder to bring up a sheep, I can tell you I didn't wait around to bring it back, I'd say it was the first time the sheep was haltered
With the size of the farm surly they could have picked a better field, one which hadn’t being grazed a couple of days earlier with cows and with a decent surface, hardship moving sheep to and from the show ring, were you down at it,
They held the event in the cow paddocks rather than the sheep paddocks because of the fear of sheep exhibitors bringing in wormer resistance in their sheep.
There's wormer resistance to every wormer now on different farms in this country now
I took a walk of the beaten track to look at some of the sheds and yards. It’s an unbelievable spot.
I always find you come out of these evens rejuvenated, until something **** happens at home again 😅
I agree I thought there would be a lot more people there but the numbers suited me, easy to see demonstrations and there were plenty of teagasc staff to talk to.
i like the look of the clipex handling unit but it’s a massive price. Cotter crate was impressive too
Good event and well layout, not too busy either but agree about the poaching which surprised me, my first time back there in nearly 30 years since I went to ag college there, they have done some amount of building since, didn't recognise the place
The worst two fields in Ireland were disastrous with humps and hollows from poaching that you would break your neck in. Only some of the breeds held the all Ireland classes there would have being no body at it.
Was a great event now
Im here at the moment. Great day in fairness
Many heading to the sheep event in gurteen tomorrow?
16th March onwards I think, steady going until around 5th April. Couple of stragglers after that
Much the same here..When we're they born?
Slightly later lambing here. Was mineral drenching here last Saturday and they were running over the scales. The singles were 35 to 38. Twins 25ish to 35ish. Grass has been very difficult to manage along with a wet March and April. How do them weights compare to others?
How long are lads waiting to get a draft of lambs (40kg) from ewes on a grass only system?..average lambing date here was the 20th of march and first draft of fit lambs will be in 14 days time from looking at them last night
clik does nothing for lice or ticks I think so either dip lambs or spot on pour on or ectoflits
Can anyone help out here?
Have lambs done with click, notice alot of lambs biting and picking at their wool but when you examine them you can't see anything in the wool, I'm assuming the problem is lice, what would the best way to treat this or prevent it from worsening?
Got trouble with ewes biting and scratching earlier in the year but after 2 rounds of dipping and an injection of dectomax I finally got them sorted.
I'm also guessing now that since the lambs have just been recently done with clik can't be dipped.
