yes its closed now, saw them clearing it out yesterday
Vivaburg seemed to close without warning, a post went up on facebook that the doors were closed and that was it. Like other have said, I'd have gone in for a "last supper" too if we had known.
I believe the article said McDaid had Vivaburg for the last 26 years out of the 43 it was open. I don't know who had it before him.
We used to go there quite a bit - sad to see it go. Hopefully whoever goes in will make a go of it, but like a previous post, the lack of parking is an issue there.
I think it was the same with Abra it just closed without warning. Well i don't recall there being anything said anyway.
It's ok , we'll probably get another phone or vape shop. Badly needed 🤣
My money is on a coffee shop.
Boherbean didn't last long. Doesn't get the footfall.
Now if you said a Ukrainian coffee shop , that would have instant business.
Coldn't have been open more than a few months i'd say. The Christmas stuff is still on the windows.
A few of us from work got a coffee and muffin one day. The cake was nice but the coffee didn't cause us to make a second visit.
Beans were burnt at best.
It was open from the week of the festival in August until 2 weeks before Christmas! I don't get why the owners of the premises haven't bothered to clean the windows at least and take down the Christmas painting!
Their coffee was awful! I got 1 and didn't get another!
I was being polite 🤣
In relation to boherbean - it's probably a month and a half ago at this stage, but removal men had the window taken out and were taking the furniture etc out of the inside, they just put the window back in when finished.
Just from chatting to people and not knowing any proper sources but:....
may be no truth in those stories either.
Is Dunnes open after the flooding
Dunnes opened at 12 noon today according to Radio Kerry. Surprised as it looked like a fair bit of roof and water damage was done according to the footage I saw yesterday.
Glad to hear though. I'd imagine all the carpets in the cinema would need to be replaced as they were flooded too.
Poor town, homes and businesses got badly hit with the flooding, hope everyone is OK
Any word on the 2 lifeguards? Are they ok.
I was chatting to friends who said they had a positive outcome under the current circumstances 😃
I'll get my rubber soled wellies.
Oh thank god. A niece is life guarding in Kells for the summer, and we heard she knew one of them. We're back up in Kildare now, so wouldn't be reported in our local news.
They were sitting inside a metal box. Not the smartest sardines in the tin to have stayed there during an electrical storm.
Do you think you could lay off with the attempted humour? 2 kids were injured doing their job. They don't need some idiot mocking them on a public forum.
70mm rain in 40 minutes and you're on the beach. You might not be able to see. You might not be able to hear. See some shelter - nothing else around.
What do you do? You run to shelter, natural human response. If they'd instead 'toughed it out' and stood outside (possibly near the 'metal box' they couldn't really see), it might've been much worse.
I'm not even attempting humour and I know they were doing their job. They're fine from what I heard.
A metal container may well be the safest place to be inside during a lightening storm so they certainly didn't display any lack of intelligence staying in there.
where do you suggest they went?
Looks like Iceland is now in trouble! I happened to pop in there today as I was passing and noticed there was little to no frozen food and a notice on the freezers saying something about paperwork issues and no meat based foods at the moment.
Just saw that they have been appointed an examiner in their Irish stores Staff at Dublin Iceland store to end sit-in protest (rte.ie)
They were importing meat products from outside the EU without the proper certification.
They owe 36 million which they can't pay.
Once the Listowel one got into truble it was never a good sign.
As for these sit-in protests. While it's never a good thing to lose your job etc at times i wonder what employs expect. For a business to just keep going on and on while making losses that will just result in them shutting down anyway.
Anyway it's really a sign of the way retail it going. I would think they'd have huge overheads more so with energy costs at the moment.
It sounds like it was sold from Billy to Jack to whomever over the past few years and seemed to have cashflow problems all the time. Also Brexit makes it so much harder for UK firms to operate here as they learned last week with that meat origin paperwork so the writing was on the wall for it to fail.....
I know some people loved shopping there but I wonder did Irish shoppers in general consider it as somewhere they did their weekly grocery shop? I once did a shop there and the "fresh" fruit and veg I got were gone off after 1 day and I'm not a big fan of heavily processed frozen food so I never really went back after that first visit.
I shop there every now and then, never bought fresh veg, frozen veg was good. Also had some great fish offerings for a while, particularly liked the Yellowfin Sole but they stopped doing it ages ago and the Aldi stuff is not near as good, had great prawns too at one time but gone to lesser quality now.
Around Christmas/Easter their veg/turkey bundle was hard to pass, frozen turkey breast and sprouts/roast spuds plus several other things I can't remember for less than 20 quid, great value and nothing at all wrong with it. Now the poor turkey could have been frozen for years after an awful life but if you were short money for Christmas it was a great deal, all the veg sides were grand.
Often have offers on 24 pack of Coke etc that I keep an eye on as usually cheaper than anywhere else when on offer.
