Looks like VW have been caught lying about emissions yet again
It's a shame the ASAI wouldn't pull Toyota up on their BS self charging advertising.
Quite right too, and what about all the ID.4 drivers who fart with the windows open?
Have you submitted a complaint?
But isn't it true that the cars do charge their own battery with their own engine?
True but they are charging from petrol then. Toyota advertise it as if it will charge on it's own.
These ads have been banned in other countries for this reason.
I totally agree, that if a person is a complete idiot, it is misleading, but it is technically true to say it will charge itself. The biggest issue I have is that I know of dealers exaggerating their efficiency when a diesel car, is more efficient. I know of many very disappointed people who changed from diesel to petrol hybrid having being told they are just as efficient as their old car.
Or Nissans E-Power Cashcow
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if you were the complainant in that case.
Does it matter who the complainant was?
VW are caught publicly lying about emissions yet again.
That’s if you fall for that nonsense.
brake pads on EVs are seldom used. so not really an issue , I believe the ASAI skipped over it as they aren’t aware of how little use they get.
as for tyre emissions? Is that a thing ? Like really 2 tyres replaced after 30k km. I’d say that’s a negligee amount.
the strangest thing is that they continue to allow Toyotas self charging ads
VW didn’t claim seldom emissions or negligible emissions. (I think I had a negligee emission myself once).
They claimed zero emissions, which is a lie. And tyre and brake emissions are absolutely harmful.
Have you tried making a complaint about Toyota?
Like this:
“The Committee considered however that while the ICE was fuelled by an external source, the hybrid battery was charged by the ICE and by regenerative braking, and that it did not require a source external to car. They did not consider that the claim ‘self-charging hybrid electric car’ was in breach of the Code.
how much brake emission does a electric car give off, compared to my road bike with disc brakes ? Would you class a bike as zero emissions?
Have you seen any bike adverts claiming zero emissions?
I believe brake and tyre emissions are going to be controlled in the upcoming Euro 7 standards, so it's apparently enough to warrant some concern from regulators. Perhaps it's overreaching regulations but I think it's good for them to nip this stuff in the bud as early as possible
How bad it is probably depends on your viewpoint. An ID.4 emitting some particulates from it's tyres isn't good for your health, but the diesel car beside it belching out particulates from the exhaust is likely to do a lot worse
With the greatest respect dude, you ruin enough threads on this site and drive enough posters away - do you really need to come in spoiling a thread for owners of a specific EV? Seriously - have you nothing better to do with your time?
I’ve as much to do with my time as you have to do with your time, apparently.
Hyundai also use the slogan for their hybrids. Agree while the purpose is to exaggerate the EV aspect of hybrids, it's not technically incorrect. How else are hybrid batteries charged? I dont get why people get so bothered about the slogan. For me the slogan zero emissions EVs could be considered technically incorrect if charged with electricity generated by fossil fuels. Of course we all know what the term actually means.
Most Nissan Leafs, maybe all of them, say "Zero Emissions" on the door of the boot and the ASA didn't have an issue with that.
Seems to be just an anti-VW rant
Or maybe it's an anti-ev rant from somebody who makes money from oil
Agree, presumably ASAI are reacting to a specific complaint so presumably nobody has lodged a complaint against Nissan.
However, I'd be surprised if someone doesn't take Nissan to task on their latest epower campaign which spouts awful rubbish, you'd think Nissan had acrualy reinvented the wheel
There's a climate change group deflating tyres, even EVs
that's not an ad though.
In fairness, in comparison to Toyota I had a 'self-charging' lamp on my bike when I was a kid. I just had to peddle like the wind to keep the dynamo going.
Cheers for the warning 👍
Don't all petrol and diesel cars charge a battery from the engine? Certainly for the last 40 years anyway
So does that mean all ICEs could actually be categorised as hybrids
Why they don't just classify hybrids as petrol is beyond me
I also suspect you are on of the complainants, as you always bring up brake and tyre particles as an argument against EVs.
Your response to Padraig isn't accurate either. Not when you compare the average post count per day. Round off the figures, Padraig posts 1.3 times per day and you post 11 times per day.
😉
Jesus talk about being pedantic…
In the ad, Volkswagen claimed that it makes “all-electric cars with zero driving emissions”. However, the complainants, who have not been named by the ASAI, argued that every car emits tyre particles and brake pad particles.
Responding to the complaint, Volkswagen told the ASAI that the term “emissions”, when used in the context of car advertising, was “widely accepted and understood by consumers to refer to emissions emanating directly from the source of power of the vehicle”. In petrol and diesel cars, that meant exhaust emissions of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide, which battery-powered vehicles did not emit.
It is technically incorrect term to say the likes of a Toyota hybrid is self charging. If it were correct, then a Nissan Leaf and all other EVs are self charging......After you plug them in that is.
Just because a hybrid charges a small battery when the engine is running, does not make it self charging. You have to hold a petrol or diesel pump for longer than you hold an EV plug to fuel the car. The battery in a hybrid can only be charged after ICE fuel is pumped into the tank by someone which is necessary repetitive work.
I'll agree with the slogan when the car is fully charged without interference from a person, or by using a fuel we have to buy. Solar would be acceptable to me for the term.
