The Energia EV rate that I'm on is 1000kWh per month, not per 2 month period I'm pretty sure.

Electric Ireland also have a plan, but it's only 2 hours (2-4) boost/EV, although the general night rate is better than BG.

We've done 4700km in the 6 weeks since we got it @17kWh/100km so we need 133kWh/week (145-150kWh before losses). We manage to get 100 kWh onboard over the week at the lower rate and the remainder at the night rate. When I excelled up the BG and EI plans for our usage, they cost almost the same.

I was on the older EV plan with Energia until the end of May. Mine was the D/N meter version. And you're right, it was 1000kWh per month.

But the newer one on the smart meter seems to be half that.

    That sucks.

I pushed it to the limit. 983kWh in December, 976 in January, 837 in February.

I broke it over winter by 500kwh, no big issue, only the incremental 500kWh is charged at the higher rate. Well, no big issue on our plans, on that smart plan it may be different

You'd want to be very sure of your consumption during the day to even consider a 60c day rate. Have you tried waterpower? Variable rates might not be for everyone but last month their rates were 24c day and 17 night ex VAT. 24 day rate was 23c.

Theres a separate thread for this 👍

Don't forget to include the standing charge when doing your comparisons. While one rate might look cheaper, it's standing charge could be a lot higher so you should factor that in too.

Almost correct. It is 2000 units per 2 month billing period. Trying to mostly heat the house and water over winter with electricity, I always go over. Which is bad for me on a personal level as then my electric heating was more expensive than with gas. And it is many times worse on a national or global level

This should never happen in a situation where the tax payer is paying massive fines for the country not meeting its emissions targets. A much higher excise duty on all fossil fuels would have and should have sorted this...

That's a huge jump and a miserable retention offer, there must be better out there. The suppliers just don't seem to care anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 624 ✭✭✭handpref

Yep- Flo Gas slightly better rates but €100 more on the standing charge ..

Have a look at the EI weekender. With that mileage you could get charged up once a week at zero rate. The rate for the rest of the week is 43.5c approx plus 9% VAT, so 47.42c. As one day is free you can effective take about 14% off that to see your real rate for seven days for comparison ....approx 40.78c incl VAT. That's before you move 'optional' stuff to the free day.

This plan is working really well for us atm. Got solar panels in and they're covering most of the weekly usage (these months anyway), along with free charging of the car every Saturday. We do almost all the 'optional' stuff like washing machine and dishwasher on Saturday and when the sun shining during the week (I have a some about that, but I'll spare you).

Bill for last month was about €25, about the standing charge (F.I.T. about €45). And that includes car charging for the month. Am pretty happy with that. Different scenario for solar in the winter of course, but the free weekend day is still attractive. Run your own numbers of course, but do have a look at this one. Just my experience.

The current FloGas deal is about 30% cheaper per unit than the Energia rates you were offered, so it is a lot better.

I moved from Energia to FloGas this month after they gave me a similar retention offer.

The difference in standing charge for me was only about 3 euro. Based on rural with D/N meter.

All day Saturday only works if you're a homebird though.

Not looking forward to losing our 33.4/9.8c Energia rates in September, and constantly keeping a close look at the market. We installed some solar and a good size battery this spring and will install more panels sometime after the holidays. Low priced unlimited night rate with a low standing charge would work for us. In our case the day rates can be whatever.

EI is just over €118 cheaper than that Energia quote, its €100 more on standing, but overall €118 better, based on your usage 9127/2078:

EI is 1.29 c lower on Night rate, and 4.7 lower on day rates.

That’s a great offer ! Thanks Mr Q, , I’ve trawled the fine print but can’t see if there is a cap on the amount of day/night units, can anyone advise before I pull the trigger ? 👌

still waiting for the floras response email after signing up online

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭Mr Q

Same here. I just got an email after signing up saying I will receive a welcome pack in the next 14 working days.

But they have definitely done something as I have several missed calls from Energia since I signed up to FloGas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,828 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

So are we saying that you may only get that auto response email below when you fill in application. they will then proceed with the switch and the next we will hear from them is the 1st bill?

    Dear Customer,

Thank you for your application to switch your energy supply to Flogas. You will receive a welcome pack in the next 14 working days. By clicking this link you can open General Terms and Conditions for the Supply of Energywhich you have agreed to during sign up.

Should you change your mind, you can cancel the switch within 14 days of agreeing to the contract by contacting cancellations@flogas.ie or by completing and returning the cancellation form.

There will be no interruption to your supply and you do not need to contact your previous supplier to cancel your account, as this will be done for you. Your previous supplier will issue you a final bill/credit if owed.

Flogas have what i could only describe, as a “prehistoric” system, and a very poor online portal, so their system, has 2 speeds - slow, and stop.

Some additional patience required, as they are years behind the main providers, but at those very compeditive tarriffs, its certainly worth waiting for.

Can you get those BWG deals with a smart meter ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 624 ✭✭✭handpref

Fair play guys- jumped ship there-

These deals are well buried within the web sites and inaccessible to most-with the last energia ev deal, energia staff had to told about it ..anyway, hopefully Flogas come good 👍🏻
