Energia when they got started is plain sailing too, although took them a while to get going!
Glad to see Energia haven't changed their prices from Feb on day/night.
14c/48c.
Not as good as 6c back in January 😕
Deemed FIT is plugging the gap nicely though.
Might get through 2023 with zero bill all going well.
How in the hell did you get that night rate? It's up to 22c/kWh at night now
The BWG Flogas dual fuel offer is back. https://www.flogas.ie/dual-fuel/exclusive-dual-06-23.html Posted on the Switching thread.
https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058235650/switching-electric-gas-providers#latest Only seems to last a week or 2 usually before it is withdrawn.
That was the rate when I signed up end of January.
It was a big step up from 6c/24c!
Ah before they pulled it?
Can't even get that now.
Yep. Got in by a few weeks I think. It's gone seriously uncompetitive since
Just thinking off the top of my head, which is never a good idea in my case but...
If people tried to game FIT by jumping to a new supplier every year then presumably they get a cheque in the post for any credit remaining in their account.
With money leaving the electricity c̶a̶r̶t̶e̶l̶ providers, rather being recycled as credit, will it cause the providers to have money flow problems and risk of bankruptcy?
Of course, homes with PV are currently a drop in the ocean but I can imagine it is causing them some headaches.
What's happened in every other country with a market based FIT is that as more houses get solar the rate of the FIT decreases, so I'm guessing the same will happen here. And I'm pretty confident that suppliers are still selling the electricity we send to the grid at a profit given the current day rates
Yeah, FIT will reduce in time. I have no doubts about that.
It would be interesting if they went for a dynamic or demand-based FiT offering, a bit like Octopus Agile but more demand-driven.
Could make for interesting offerings for the 17:00 to 18:30 peak-demand time, especially if excess electrical units are being auctioned on an open market.
Got my first credit from Flogas, €42 from late April to start of June
They emailed the credit bill after I asked what the interval is. I get the feeling they're doing the FIT manually since the bill doesn't appear on my online account
The credit is there though, so don't really care beyond that 😁
Hi Folks,
I posted this on Bargain Alerts, but the one response I got so far was unhelpful.
Basically, I'm new to the renewable scene, and I'm looking for some general advice on switching to a new gas and electricity provider. There's been a lot of changes to my house since this time last year. I bought an EV with a home charger, installed a heat pump and got an 8Kw solar panel system, with a 5Kw battery. The ESB changed my meter to a smart meter three weeks ago.
I want to find the best deal that would include all the possible discounts that I'm entitled to. Can anyone recommend any essential tips or guidance? What are some things I should look out for when comparing offers? Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Did you have a 24 hour meter or a day night meter.
You should be looking at the likes of the night boost tariff from electric Ireland. And you should be loading as much of your usage into the 2-4 am “boost” window as possible. Always make sure to have the car plugged in for these 2 hours.
Choose monthly billing and set the billing date as the 1st of each month. It just keeps things tidy and allows you to compare against your PV stats easily. you will get 21c for every unit you export; and the way they have their billing system setup you will get the credit along with the bill each month.
some people go as far as scheduling the heating to come on at that time at a higher temperature to build up the thermal energy stored in the floors / walls so that the heat pump will have to work less hard for the rest of the day when the units are more expensive.
as you only have 5kWh of battery storage I feel that would be best used to avoid any usage during the peak times. So you should manually schedule that to be in discharge mode between 8am -11pm and also schedule it to charge fully between 2-4am.
What Flogas plan are you on, does it have to be smart plan to get FIT? Similar boat to @portach king, upgrades done in the last year and smart meter installed recently.
Get your day night meter back if at all possible.
Excellent information. Thank you.
I was on a 24-hour meter.
I'm planning to double the battery capacity in a few months. As the house is mostly empty during the day, I was hoping to charge it using the excess solar during the 8am-4pm hours.
just remember that you can buy units for .14 cent between 2-4 am and you get paid .24 cent to export them during the day. Always charge as much as possible during the boost window and that will set you up to export as much as possible during the days. That’s my take on it anyway.
I'm on the BWG discount plan with a D/N meter, got in just before the deal closed
You don't need a smart meter, but you'll get metered export instead of deemed export with a smart meter. Depending on battery size, you might end up exporting a lot in summer
Sound, thanks. Metered export without activating a smart plan is great. Won't export too much with a small system and 5 kWh battery, but would like to get paid even if it's small money. 50 in April and 75 kWh exported in May.
Rethink. Gas heating and gas DHW, better look the best gas rate plan and calculate from there. Could be looking at only €100 per year FIT.
That deal is back for now. https://www.flogas.ie/exclusive-elec-06-23.html
F**king grab it while it's there lads, best night rate on a D/N going at the moment
Only sign up online, if you ring they won't let you take the deal as some on the switching thread found out afaik.
The sign of things to come? Prices are surely in line for a big drop
It's the same rate they were offering a couple of months ago, so not sure if it's a sign
They keep using it as an affinity deal for various companies, but they're required to offer it to anyone who can find it
My guess is Flogas have a max number of customers they'll sign up to the discount per month and they close it as soon as it gets oversubscribed so as not to lose money
As someone with a smart meter on the electric ireland night boost I assume this is unattainable to me?
Same plan and same question 👍
Throw a post here lads https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058235650/switching-electric-gas-providers#latest some in your position might have an answer.
There should be a smart meter equivalent, although I don't remember the rates offhand
I think the main issue with the smart plan was that you couldn't apply online and would have to ring up, and the agents kept saying no
Received my 2nd CEG (FIT) payment from SSE - again no details on the bill for what export period, so I'm guessing Feb through to approx. Mid May looking at my export figures - Total credited to account €125.59 (523 units?).
