Edit: The external hard drive which I can add to the build is similar to this one

I would just use the HDD for storing all the files including my User folders. Will leave the Steam folder on there as well and install the OS on SSD.

I won't need a optical drive. I removed it on my laptop to add the HDD and used an SSD in the place for the HDD.

I'm considering a similar build like the one that Raphael quoted from Bloodbath.

The HDD that I have would be slower than the SATA 6Gb/s one that he quoted in that post. Would that really matter considering I would just use it for everything else but the OS files/folders?

Well, if you already have a hard-drive and you're happy enough with that one then that's fine for you, as long as it's not going to be your os drive. - Which the ssd is for.

At the 700 euro mark that build is very good for an mATX build. Keep in mind though that there wont be all that much room for upgrading. Two DIMM slots, 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot(although I very much doubt you'll be doing crossfire anyway) :P

I edited the OP so you should see the one I'm on about. I'll use the SSD for the OS and have the My Documents, My Music etc on the HDD as well. It's the same way that I have my laptop set up.

I can't see myself using a load of graphics card unless I had loads of monitors thinking I was in the Matrix or working in film editing. :pac:

In fact, where did you even get these prices from? CPU, GPU, RAM & motherboard are all below anything I can find.
RAM: Don't buy DDR4-2400 for a high-spec Intel CPU. You want to be getting at least DDR4-2800 speed.
Motherboard: If buying 9th-gen CPU, avoid the hassle of BIOS updates on Z370 -- choose a Z390 chipset instead.
You also left out a CPU cooler, which is an additional expense with that CPU.

Alternatively, since you are only going for RX580, don't waste money on an i5-9600K - get a Ryzen 5-2600 on B450 motherboard.

Honestly, I would just replace your 4440 with a 2nd hand i7-4790 for €120 and spend the rest of the money on a GTX1070 / 1070Ti / Vega 64. Will be a way bigger upgrade in games.

600W is overkill honestly, a GTX 1070 system will draw under 300W at peak load (that's full-system, not GPU power draw)

The main advantage of an overkill PSU is that it will be silent at loads like that.
You could get an EVGA G2/G3 650W for €85 if you want; or a Corsair TX-M 550W for €74.

If you are currently running a 290, you will be fine with a GTX 1070. I have i7 3770 and a 1070 running on a decent 450W with no issues

Yeah the 290 is way more power hungry than the 1070. PSU requirements are always over-stated to account for people using crap quality PSU's. It's common to see cards that draw 50w 'recommend' a 500w PSU even though the full system wouldn't draw more than about 150w under 100% load.

Looking at getting a new rig perhaps at the end of the year or early next year.

I want to get an ATX case as well since I find the mini ATX a bit hard to work around. Not gonna require the HDD since the 500GB of the SSD should be enough. Looking to have a quite up-to-date CPU but this might be a bit too pricey but may drop by the end of the year.

That board is a DDR5 one, so DDR4 isn't an option for it. It has a variant named the Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX DDR4, which unsurprisingly is the DDR4 version of it. Not much point in going for DDR4 if you're not carrying over some.

DDR5 is faster overall and lower power, and it's the RAM type for the foreseeable future. DDR4 can have lower latency, so unless you have a use case that really needs low RAM latency, there's no advantage to DDR4.

Userbenchmark isn't good comparison software, their benchmarks are not reputable.

You don't need an i9-13900K. Either go AMD (Ryzen 7700, or 7800X3D for gaming) or i5-13600K/i7-13700K. Spend the extra money on more SSD and slightly faster RAM.

I'm not sure what to get for the graphics card. I'd be mainly playing CSGO (soon to be CS2) and that would be more reliant on the CPU so the money would be more geared towards the CPU.

I don't need massive storage either. I'm currently using 135GB on a HDD and 61GB on a SSD. Would prefer to have just a SSD for everything if it works fine.
