Best Electricity Plan for new EV Owners

MODs: Feel free to add somewhere else but I couldn't find most relevant info I need on the charging thread.

Having got an IONIQ 5 this week, I've been trying to shop around and get the best standard rate per KW I can find.

The best I've been able to find is 18.2c per KW with Electric Ireland but I regularly see here that people say they have 13cish rate.

Im trying to get lowest standard 24h rate as opposed to a day/night rate as I don't think I'll be charging up enough to justify a day night rate with much higher daytime/peak rates.

Thought a 2022 thread considering there's probably many boardsies with new EVs shopping around now for the best deal that we could share the info here rather than seeing little bits sporadically on threads about individual EV types etc.

You do, they tell you how many units you've used and how much per unit you'll pay. I don't see any cheaper supplier out there for 24hr rates.

Contract ends in August, current best option is flogas fixed but I dont think the time is right to fix so I might use my built up credit with energia (from microgen and govt credits) and move in the winter. As per thread title that flogas fixed tariff (not the discontinued affinity one) seems the current best electricity plan for new ev owners.

Ah now, I'm only ribbing you. As you say the fixed plan from Flogas looks to be best, that's what I'm on. Maybe by August there might be something better although it isn't looking good so far. It certainly would be great to have credit to use up first😊

I guess it's like those agile tariffs, they work when prices are generally low but you need to be sure what you're signing up for

Certainly looks like it. Standard Irish conservatism is afraid of the dynamic model and are always cynical there's a catch, I'm including myself in that, we just aren't used to it. I hope it takes off and I'll watch it carefully and would move to them.

I wont move to them unless they give actual pricing, eg like octopus in the UK, negative pricings during the night and higher during the day. That would be great. I'd consider moving to a smart meter for that

Presumably on a month by month basis Waterpower.ie will communicate to customers by some means regarding the rates in play for the month ahead?

Seems ok if you were prepared to watch it closely - which, going by this thread, we are all doing anyway.

We have the smart meter installed and as an experiment we have been setting things to recharge/use from 2AM to 4AM , the best best one to swith to seems to be Electric Ireland night boost rate, but the benefits dont seem great, maybe 10-15 euros a month. There is no killer tariff out there Im missing?

6.9c from memory? By far the best rate in the market, but only for 3 hours per day so if you are on a 12kva standard connection, that will typically let you draw close to 15kW, that's 45kWh per day. Sounds like by far the best plan available at the moment, but obviously only if you have the system in place that can do that. Very doable if you have either an above average annual mileage EV (or two) and / or a large water cylinder to heat and / or a powerful inverter plus large home battery storage. Probably need all 3 of those 😁

With them 4 months and have found them to be very good. Have panels and battery but have been able to run house and 2 evs for about €300. And that doesn’t take in to account the €150 they’ve paid me in FIT….which they give every month…compared to BG who still haven’t paid me for last year.

Day 0.2408 c/kWh, Night 0.1782 c/kWh.. Standing Charge: €.80 cent (rural) and €.60 cent (urban) per day. All prices ex. VAT

You could live with that until the other providers start to come down to match. The standing charges are particularly low.

Just going on what others have said, you can email them too.

They seem to do a variable rate. (Wholesale goes down, they charge less, rate goes up they charge more)
