If its real footage, then there are a few possibilities. It may not be Ukrainian strategy but maybe a local commander made a mistake or gave bad orders. It could be that they thought they were out of artillery range. It could be a diversion of old tanks. It could be that the fields are still impassible due to weather and so they took a risk on the road as the only way through.
But if after all that it is the deliberate tactics of the Ukrainian army, which I doubt, hopefully they wont repeat it
The "reds" had power in the USSR for 70 years, the Nazis in Germany for 12 (and they did their mass slaughtering in only 5), if the Nazis had power for 70 years they would have made the actions of Stalin look like an English reverend's afternoon tea party.
The only way of advancing fast unfortunately is by road. Cross country is painfully slow giving the enemy loads of time to bring in resources and set up traps. Without air superiority the western equipment will always be vulnerable.

Ukraine lacks a critical resource - manpower. It's not equipment they lack. Crucially conjuring up numbers can not replace experience that has been lost since the start of the war.
Thr Russians have long dug in and it's hard to see how Ukraine can break through those lines sometimes with trenches many deep.

How do you expect to obtain a meaningful ceasefire or diplomacy when they're shelling rescue operations as a result of a catastrophe of their own creation?
I suspect such large advances occurred after the Russians were on a disorganised retreat and the vast majority of Ukrainian men and equipment were advancing by road, not cross country. Great for speed but may get caught out now and again.

But the clare daly references are usually brought in before they go off the deep end into full putinbot/"I'm being persecuted for being a putinbot" mode.

I think some people are forgetting during the Kherson offensive UAF look heavy losses initially, particularly one unit that got completely taken out. But we know how they ended up with a substantial UAF victory.
I listened to that podcast, and in essence her issues are these:
1. The Irish government, the Irish political opposition, the Irish media and the Irish people disagree with her and criticise her heavily, therefore all of those groups are wrong, not independent and need to adopt her views (including, it seems the Irish Times, who have published several opinion pieces and letters saying Ukraine should sue for peace).
2. We had the GFA, so why cant Ukraine just agree to a GFA type peace deal (even though they did, and Russia invaded anyway).
3. The EU has lots of lobbyists, and so is therefore bad (regardless of what they are lobbying for e.g. climate protection).
4. The EU and other European countries who wouldve been anti war and skeptical of the USA before Russia invaded are fully behind supporting Ukraine, and from this she concludes that something sinister has happened (as opposed to the more obvious reason, being them reacting normally to the enormity of Russias invasion and human rights abuses).
These are her views and you dont disagree with them. But do you actually agree with those views or are they your own views too?

I will only reply to a real factual and historicaly accurate answer, not hyperbolic or emotional rants.
I think that the consensus among the historians of the period is that just 16 years after the end of the Irish civil war the IRA was a potentially dangerous and detabilising force. Entering a war against Germany in alliance with Britain would have carried so many negative connotations from the WW1 period. In large measure neutrality was based on a realistic approach, distasteful as that may seem.
Remember that the real horrors of the 3rd Reich were not apparent until 1942-3, and that de-facto Ireland was on the allied side in non-military terms: a supplier of food and manpower to the UK, for example. Also, downed allied airmen were let go quietly but not Germans
Post-WW2 neutrality got acrried over into the Cold War era, and thus became a big thing with the Left, who were shockingly blind to the evils of Stalism and later Soviet policies. This nostalgia for Stalism and Bolshevism lingers on in the form of Clare Daly and others.
My thinking is that Ukraine should have been less ambitious and attacked where they are winning, north of Bakhmut. But it will take a week before anything in the south is resolved. Too early to make a call on anything yet. It is not too late to pull out of the south and go north.

Always thought Claire was fairly Grumpy myself. Thing about her is that she's an empty vessel and they make a lot of noise.
