They will very little if anything.
I think you'll find that they get a he'll of a lot of what they ask for or just go ahead regardless and get bailed out later. Tallaght stadium was supposed to be a DCC stadium for GAA and soccer, ends up as rovers defacto home ground. Paid for by DCC. Dalymount redevelopment is also being heavily funded by DCC. Aviva, they went ahead with their hair brained multiyear ticket sales in lieu of funding their part. Ended up a washout.
All sports get some amount of funding and help to build stuff but if you think we are going to have 10 x 20k stadia and 10 x 10 you know nothing about the League of Ireland. Most clubs wouldn't even want that and could use the money in much better ways.
DCC are going to do things for the likes of Bohs and Rovers because there is political capital there but those are 8k stadia not 20k which is fantasy land stuff.
Pretty much this. Unless we plan on doing a solo bid for the Under-21 Euros or the Women's Euros we don't need ten 20k capacity stadiums. What we do need are UEFA category 4 stadiums for European Group stage football for which the minimum capacity is 8k plus a lot of other required stadium infrastructure. I think ten quality stadiums with around 10k capacity is much more preferable and realistic.
That is a quite amazingly wrong viewpoint. Soccer got a bailout because without it, soccer would cease to exist here as an organized sport within UEFA and FIFA competition. The government had to bail it out or it would be a vote loser.
Almost all sport be it soccer or GAA is hugely underfunded in Ireland. The recent report commissioned by the FAI shows that the state contributes 0.4 of GDP while the euro average is 0.8. In a country with very sub par sports infrastructure that is a galling statistic.
10*20k stadia is crazy talk but at the same time the proposed expansion of dalymount is to a capacity of 8k which is crazy low. It should be at least 12k. M
Ultimately the irish government has a decision to make with our stadia infrastructure as it’s well dated
We have some great stadiums in Ireland.
Sadly they are for horse racing rather than real sports.
Horse racing is a real sport and majority are built appropriately for their use.
That there is some great stands for racing isnt a reason other sports dont have good enough facilities
Most of this is wrong. The stadium was NEVER supposed to be for GAA and soccer. SDCC (not DCC) wanted a stadium to be used for lots of events. It is. Shamrock Rovers are their anchor tenants and pay rent to use it. As do lots of other organisations including the GAA for school games
Thomas Davis GAA club tried to stop the development so that the pitch could be widened and lengthened and demanded it be designed for full size GAA use but SDCC stood firm and Thomas Davis lost their court case
Tallaght Stadium has been a spectacular success for SDCC and the venue is in constant use. Yes football uses it most (home ground for Ireland women’s team, Ireland under 21s etc etc) but it’s been used for everything from American football to rugby league and archery to cross country running
Who paid for them ?
The FAI were dead right to call out the scam that is the betting tax. And don't bother with the "x amount of people are employed by horse racing" because they blew that ship out of the water too.
mix of private and state funding. Like most venues that have been built
The GAA should just mind their own house. Forget about what the FAI are doing. It's not a competition.
We have decent infrastructure but a lot of it needs to be upgraded which in my view won't take huge money. Take Thurles. I really think a few miillion would go a long way. That's the same for plenty of other grounds.
You're talking about washing the terraces and upgrading the hoarding with a couple of million in a stadium the size of Thurles in these times.
I agree you would not see 20 Million doing much in Thurles. Huge stadium very dated and it's 10 years since I have been at a match there. Great stadium to get in and out of. However you would need massive mo ey to revamp
I posted an Article in the this thread a while back where the tip board needed 20 million for Thurles which gave them very modest upgrades but this is now on hold.
When you look at what it is costing south Dublin county council to upgrade tallaght stadium and look what it is costing kildare to upgrade newbridge Kildare seam to have got a good deal
Quick one here - not sure if the right thread
My company provide a service to teams (Men and Women of various ages) for County, Club and Intervarsity
VAT is always charged but I've had a query from one Club recently asking what the story with VAT being there is. I explained it's a service that we provide, so the rate is correct to be there. Do Clubs not work the same as Counties and Colleges where they have an entity that can claim VAT back on their side? First time we have been questioned on it by any team and I didn't want to give an incorrect answer to them.
Clubs can claim back some tax through revenue if registered with the charities and sports bodies tax exemptions unit.
They can ring the charities and sports unit between 9.30 and 1.30 or apply via my enquries in my account or ROS to see if theyre eligible etc
Thanks for that. Might just keep that link for future references anyway to pass it on.
Was kinda surprised when they asked me - When teams are buying sliotars etc., I'm sure they don't complain about paying VAT, so not sure why they do query it for other things.
Appreciated
I'd assume that this is just an issue with too many people trying to go to the one section and then realising that the section they wanted to go to is full.
Overcrowding at the Tailteann Cup.
I thought this must have been a Waterford Whispers article at first 🤣
Yeah was bizarre when I saw the headline. Made more sense when I read the article, it can happen when not enough stands or sections are open but it's fairly easy to solve.
There clearly were enough stands open though. I bet this is nothing more than a few drama queens who had to endure a bit of a queue.
Tickets were all general admission rather than being numbered for specific seats. I'd say any congestion was caused by people trying to get into central sections when they were already full, instead of just moving towards either end of the pitch.
Having said that, could easily have been avoided if tickets were just numbered in the first place.
Been plenty of matches sold as GA with those numbers.
I 100% believe it's just some "won't somebody think of the children" merchants on Twitter.
A double-header elsewhere would be better for such games (assuming there is a ground reasonable distance from all counties involved). Would have been a nice crowd for Breffni or Clones.
Would the 1/4 finals be better in regional grounds or is croke park the right place to have them?
€25 Million to build the new Louth Stadium. Thats not a bad price at all
It's not going to get any cheaper by waiting.
100% i hope louth do get the buckets in the ground this month
Interesting that Louth GAA will save €750,000 by not having automatic Turnstiles.
Meath cracking on with a reduced plan apparently. Personally think if the toilets were upgraded on the terrace its fine as is. I'm sure there's maybe health and safety upgrades needed but a whole rebuild that side isn't needed.
