Damn... they blew the dam
Hopefully they'll get most of the civilians out of the way, but it sounds very bad with the water rising fast.
...
Can this be classed as a war crime and added to the list of all the others that the Russians have committed.
In a statement this morning, Andryi Yermak, head of President Zelensky’s office, said Russia would be responsible for depriving the people of Crimea of drinking water and said Russia’s actions “pose a threat to the ZNPP” (Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant).
Crimea will have zero drinking water?
I wonder can Ukraine sustain the inevitable heavy losses while they launch their counter .They will have to have some notable gains even if its just to keep their allies fully committed to supporting them .That would be a big concern for me .Putin will still have plenty of bodies he can throw at the front .I really hope the Ukrainians can box smart for the counter .
The BBC are reporting what the Russians are claiming so........
I see that a lot of ye swallowed what Russia said hook, lube, and sinker. They have a track record of never telling the truth during their invasion (and before) yet a lot of ye believe them when they say Ukraine has suffered heavy losses over the past few days.
Inevitable Ukraine are going to have massive casualties unfortunately.
I think most agree that any counter attack will result in heavy losses that's generally the way it pans out .
Name a place one area they have outside the meat grinder BM holding. And they still cane out on top of that.
You can expect a continuous ‘all the Ukrainians are dying’ post over the next month as the scare mungering increases from the usual pro Russian posters…. It’s just the nerves
Oh I know. I just wanted to know if the English language version of massive had changed recently. No one said they have not taken losses.
They blew the dam nuclear plant will be next Russia's Continues to escalate has no right to be apart of this world
Full long range weapon that can reach any where in Russia needed
I have no idea what you are talking about
Have you not seen this?
Ukraine are going to have massive losses as people drown. This is pure terrorism
Yes but for context were not talking about the UA fighting water are we.
They must sense that the game is up if they were willing to blow the dam. It will disrupt the Ukrainians but also creates a larger natual barrier for the AFU to cross from Kherson, possibly removing that direction of attack from Russia's consideration.
But it is also an increably block-headed move. The water in that dam didn't just supply water to the Dnipro areas, but also to Crimea. This robs the Crimea auquduct of it's water supply, and in turn the lion's share of Crimea's drinking water.....right before the heat of summer hits.
I would be more worried about the PowerStation's cooling. Can they keep a lid on it. I mean this could be a 2 part no mans land one Nuclear and one Water with radioactivity in it.
I'm talking about their amazing modern army that was supposedly going to take Ukraine in a few days, or their endless threats to nuke European capitals. All bluster.
That they could bully and terrorise a few smaller neighbours is hardly the same thing.
Eh... The reason nobody helped Georgia in 2008 or Ukraine in 2014 was because of the "Powerfull" Russian army. Get it?
Anyway I'm not going any further on this, having an argument online with someone who thinks they know more about psy-ops than the Ukrainian military is a silly waste of my time.
Ukraine had dammed the water supply to Crimea for many years prior to the Russian invasion. Agriculture in Crimea was severely impacted by this. It won't make much difference to people living in Crimea unless the the water treatment plants are also shutdown (i.e. electricity)
The act of blowing a dam, which will affect the general population as much or more than military is a upsetting development. I know its the wrong reaction but part of me wants UKR to do the same in Russia and take out a hydro electric dam, a really big one. Let Russians know these war crimes don't go unpunished. The other part of me knows they shouldn't do that and the should focus on the right fight. But it does make your blood boil.
To think Russia would do this to what they claim are their own people.
It's too early to be drawing such a conclusion.
Ukraine claims russia blew the dam
Russia claims ukraine blew the dam
Is there proof of either yet (other than the dam itself being blown apart)
Once the water recedes in the upper reservoir it may make it easier for ukraine to land on the other shore of the now much lower kakhovka reservoir
And the majority of the flooding downstream is on the russian occupied bank - a definite own goal if they panicked and blew it themselves
Blowing that dam is pure terrorism.
You seem to have a curious desire to big up the Russian army, makes me wonder where your sympathies truly lie. Maybe another secret Putin supporter. I won't waste more time on you either. Good luck comrade
I share your sentiments completely but we all know Ukraine can't bomb non military infrastructure inside Russia as the Americans and Europeans are wary of escalation and they dictate the limits of what's permitted
Logic, UAF are not in retreat. Why would they make life harder for themselves. russia put explosives in a nuke plant then blame Ukraine for shelling it. Even though the roof looked like someone took a sledgehammer to it.
Russian positions on the left bank are all flooded, as are the villages they control.
Ukraine control the dams on the dnieper further upstream, so once the waters recede they can reduce flows to a trickle and kahkovka reservoir will almost dry up opening up many more places for crossings of UAF troops
In a month or two it may be seen as a strategic masterstroke by Ukraine if they pull it off
True but still makes no sense as you need time for the earth to dry out and if your planning on a blitzkrieg type action it's not helping one bit.
