Some people just want to lump all Russian's in the one boat. There is no point arguing with that level of ignorance in my opinion. All German's where not responsible for WW1 or 2, all Americans or Brits where not responsible for the million plus innocents killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and all Russian's are not responsible for the horrors being committed in Ukraine by Putin.
Yeah a civil war in a nuclear armed nation isn't something i'd be "hoping" for tbh rogber.
I remember listening to a podcaster discuss their theory of why Irish and English fans behaved so differently when abroad at football tournaments. The Irish fans typically go on a charm offensive with the locals trying to make friends and get everyone having a good time together. In contrast the English stake out some place, cover it in flags, start singing songs about how they won two world wars, behave aggressively and condescendingly to the locals and ultimately end up fighting people. He basically put it down to a colonial mindset. The English were out trying to annex a small part of this foreign land for the duration of their stay, make it their own and do that with violence while proclaiming their greatness.
I suspect the Russians have a bit of that colonial mindset as well when abroad.
Yes, that's how they behave when abroad. Masters of all they survey. You can see it in the way they walk and talk, arrogance and contempt written all over them. I remember meeting them in Tartous and Homs, and that's the way they behaved especially with the officers, they treat everyone the same way they treat their own lower ranks. Like trash. Dedovschina is alive and well.
Ukraine are definitely counter attacking but I'll believe it's in full flow when we have footage of Bradley's and leopard's in action. I wonder do they want to make a breakthrough using their soviet crap and then push on using the Western weapons.
Yup! Sneaky NATO and evil west, versus whiter than white impeccable Russian behaviour. The Kremlin have some pretty effective mind-control and history altering programs running flat out.
I'm guessing (and hoping) that the Fog of War will make any determinations impossible for the guts of at least a week. If we don't know, chances are the Russians know about as much...which is perfect for Ukraine's war effort. Keeping the Russians guessing is as valuable as a wall of Abrams tanks, they won't be able to plan, react or control the situation in a meaningful way.
You want them to panic, surrender...or just run home beyond the actual Russian border. I'd love to know what is actually happening now, and hoping that the news is positive. But for the sake of Ukraine maintaining the element of surprise, and keeping the Russians guessing...I can wait for the news.
Capture of the Russian position near Staromykhailivka. Group R.U.H., 59th Motorized Infantry Brigade
Thats nonsense to be fair, I think its because most Irish fans arent involved in terrace culture and dont support a team week in week out. So its just an occasion for Irish fans. How would he explain league of Ireland fans in Europe? Shamrock Rovers have had more than their share of dust ups at home and abroad. I remember a few years ago their casuals went searching for Juve's ultras which was fairly ballys. Shamrock aren't alone most clubs in Europe in recent times have some sort of altercations, even my own club Sligo Rovers and Motherwell last year. Most fans from England or the LOI don't get involved in that nonsense but it's easy to get caught up in the mob mentality.
Yea, until we see some of the Western armour in action, I think we're really only in the initial phases of the counter offensive.
While many soccer nations have their elements of troublemakers I remember the Russians and English standing out for that territorial behaviour during the Euros in France. While English hooligans were at their usual their Russian equivalents actively sought them out for a rumble.
You don't see any point in the Ukrainians talking about their upcomming offensive because you don't know enough about military strategy, if you did you would instantly understand exactly what they're doing.
Look at it from the Russian side, they have been expecting an offensive for a while now and have to be ready 24 hours a day seven days a week, week after week, month after month, what this does is slowly chip away at the readyness to fight (very important), increases anxiety, and saps morale, it's chapter 1 in the "How To Win a War" handbook. The Ukrainians should be doing a few probing attacks and feints also, just to keep the stress levels up.
Believe it or not and no offence, but the Ukrainian military know a touch more about this than yourself.
This kind of strategy works even better when your opposition is already low on morale and doesn't want to be there, so perfect for the current situation.
Could easily be Russian misinformation. Stage a fake attack they repelled.
...
This is why Ukr bombing Russian mainland targets makes sense. Putin simply doesn't know how his army is doing (and therefore won't back down) until it's absolutely unable to be hidden from him and the russian population at large.
The reporting from Ukraine youtube channel says Ukraine lost 1 tank and 9 4x4's in the assault.
The raids, which were just reconnaissance/probing attacks with no new western equipment managed to penetrate several kilometres deep into Russian held territory.
That channel is usually quite accurate, so if true it seems things didn't go that badly for Ukraine at all and as expected do not closely resemble what Russia claimed.
Might be happening
The original source for that has made lots of dubious claims in the past.
The Russians have to be ready 24 hours a day whether the Ukrainians say stuff or not, as the counteroffensive has been talked up for months now. I just think extra talk now makes little difference either way.
But yes, you're right, I do know very little about military strategy and can't really think of a more repulsive human endeavour than war. Having said that, it's one the Ukrainians didn't choose so I hope that whoever is shaping their strategy does it well
No, keeping talking does make a difference, if you think you're sick of it just imagine how the Russians are feeling. 😉
Cansomeone explain what the UKr are shooting at . The Ru are not exactly popping their heads up to present pot shots from the UKr. Or is it a case that the rat, rat, rat rat,, of the gun noises is sufficient reason to fire so many rounds in order to frighten the Russians . Would the use of grenade launchers make more sense The Ru are making ABSOLUTLY no attempt to defend themselves.
OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING?
Looks like his mate got hit by the grenade towards the end?
Suppressing fire. It takes an extraordinary amount of bravery and grit to stick your head up above the trenches while bullets are whizzing past. So Ukranians fire while they advance to prevent this.
What's not shown though is that many of these positions will have been extensively shelled and drone grenade dropped before the Ukranians pull up. So many of the Russians in the trenches will be injured or shell shocked and unable to respond properly.
Like I said, talk one way or another doesn't make much difference. The Russians also like to talk up their military and we saw what it meant in reality. Let's see what the map looks like come next winter.
Wagner and the Russian army getting on well
I think the Russians will fight like hell and in any event may look like they are winning/holding, until they burn out. If that happens they would collapse very quickly. So it might be very hard to tell how the Ukrainians are doing for a while.
I'd say it was a real attack alright but part of the initial probes before a main assault is launched. When the main attack starts it will include the new western tanks and move fast. The Russians won't know what hit them until it's too late.
Its called suppression fire, and its to cover soldiers trying to get closer to the dugout / trenches to lob grenades into them. SOP,
OOPS... already covered by Virgil,
Is he still making predictions?
Even the UAF may not yet know where exactly the main offensive will be.
