Still, 30 different songs over two nights is impressive regardless of they're deep cuts or from the charts.
Slipknot have had the same set list by and large for 4/5 years now and only play for about an hour. Tool who I saw recently don't swithch up their sets either. Metallica are definitely on they better side of set rotations.
I agree with this. These YouTube covers annoy me because they're just trying to hawk their courses at the end of the day. More than that their "improved" versions lack the attitude of Kirk's pentatonic noodling. Here's one which actually just sounds worse even though it's stocked with techniques. https://youtu.be/za3YWrnKVgg
This is the frustrating thing with YouTube, the major guitar channels focus on technique above creativity and the audiences want that. In fact in an interview with Punk Rock MBA, Bradley Hall said he wasn't that creative, cue a circle jerk where both bragged about how they had "engineer/scientific" minds as opposed to artistic ones. I have yet to hear a YouTuber solo as melodic, meaningful and cool as that on Disposable Heroes or The Unforgiven even if they do have "boomer bends".
Boomer bends is a new one on me...
Kirk has had plenty of critics over the years. I wouldn't mind, but it's always funny to hear them speaking like they're an authority, when they have done nothing to earn that status.
True that. Boomer Bends was started by Polyphia's Tim Henson and it caught on so that anything involving guitar bends is now a "boomer bend" at least to Gen Z. In fact Justin Hawkins made an interesting point that a lot of guitarists now will do fast slides in place of bends to reach the same note. The difference is that the slide is more accurate with the pitch whereas the bend is more ambivalent, which is another way of saying the fast slide is more "technical" and precise - this reflecting the precise, overproduced musical world we're in apparently. Henson uses those slides a tonne to replicate RnB licks (ugh).
Can anyone tell me the name of the song at the beginning before The Ecstasy of Gold is played ?
It's a Long Way to the Top if you wanna rock n' roll by AC/DC. They've been using it for years now before TEOG starts.
You legend, thanks!
...hes playing that v a lot these days, surely it be easier to rob that ken Lawrence exployer now!
It seems 'tallica have been touching up their "official audio" - Lars is getting some jip for fluffing One at Download but it sounds grand now 🤣
I'd love to post a link but don't seem to be allowed to. It's at musicradar dot com with this path

...you re a new account, so you cant post links for a while yet......
100%
that cut to the core, as a Jason fan.
Cringe!
and then he started sticking Post It notes around the studio. didn't Bob call him out on it?
ZONE IT!!!!
...joys of psychotherapy, some of it can be a bit.....
The reason Metallica brought Towle in in the first place was because he had acquired a reputation for being able to help other famous groups of people, be they sports teams or other bands, so some of his methods may have been cringe, but they were effective enough.
...im not so sure hetfield would be still here without his help....
I don't really want to speculate on that, but the band itself may not have made it without Phil helping them.
Maybe without Phil, the band would have gone on hiatus for a much longer amount of time and perhaps only come back around the time of Death Magnetic. Some would say this wouldn't have been a bad result because it would mean no St. Anger.
...and it could have just torn the band apart for good, we ve no idea, but thankfully....
...its all a journey folks, your favorite band(s) will never always be on the same page as you throughout your life, just enjoy the journey, and if you part ways somewhere along the way, so be it....
Did anyone else listen to Jason on the Dean DelRey podcast.
It’s a really good listen, and Jason is such a cool guy. He really has zero bitterness over leaving the band. Definitely worth a listen!

he definitely made the right decision for himself, wasnt an easy one to make though....
I think it was pretty easy for him, to be honest, having listened to him talk about it over the years... he was steadfast in his decision; if I can't have my own project then I'm out. didn't James have some side project too? Like, talk about double-standards!
I watched VH1 Behind the Music at the weekend; interesting to hear them openly talk about hazing Jason. And he's SO humble about it all. Total legend
ah i cant imagine leaving a band such as as being anything but difficult, some ballsy move though
This could have easily been awful but it's awesome.

Really was. Fair play to him.
Lars in conversation with Mary Anne Hobbs today on BBC 6 Radio 6. Listen here
Mary Anne Hobbs - Lars Ulrich from Metallica interview - BBC Sounds
Tuned into Matt Cooper during the week only to hear Blackened blaring out over the airwaves.
Dave Moore was on for some segment on his favourite albums..... not sure Matty was too impressed though.
I see that they are releasing the 'WALMART' exclsuive coloured vinyls over here, not as Walmart though, just as limited Metallica/Universal releases
Crazy prices too, you can buy Ride or Puppets on walmart for $22, here they're 42 Euro
On the Universal music store all other single vinyl coloured editions are 29Euro, Metallica are 42
I have all the walmarts bar Anger and Reload, not a hope i'll be collecting these because there's a different sticker on them, although sure there will be many who will
they do look nice alright, but i wouldnt be bothered
Just seen a couple of European dates on their website. Wonder are we going to get a visit from them? It's been over 4 years.
They announced this year and next years schedule last year (I think it was last year) and said there would be no more dates added.
RT in the band longer than Jason but he just feels like a stand in for hire still. Miss Jason, his energy in his live performances was something else.
