I’d say Wexfords fans are at their wits ends about why Wexford can beat Kilkenny but putting in half arsed performances against Westmeath and Dublin.
Having TJ, PW, Fogarty and Buckley on the field at the end of a game is not going to work. They're all really showing their age this year unfortunately. You can probably get away with 1 or 2 of them but definitely not 4.
It looks like it
Wexford left Macdonald and chin inside for most of it. We struggled with it at times but worse was 2 lads going for the one ball
Blanchfield got pulled today for trying to buy a free and they got a point but Simon Donahoe done the same and got a free. Tom phelan was excellent today. We'll do well to have everyone back. Hopefully just precautionary but we were unlucky to loose 3 lads early in the match and a couple before the match.
Jackie Tyrrell’s stupid comments about Wexford probably didn’t help.
Is the high long ball making a return.
I’m looking forward to seeing our disallowed goal again considering he allowed the very same thing for one of wexford’s goals. I’m so tired of clutch decisions going against us at the end of matches with both wexford and galway.
Mullen did all the play making before he went off. After that they got their heads up and Wally sure missed him. Mikey went down and nobody went to assist him he then spotted Wexford attacking he got up ran to the far wing out of sheer determination won a free and went down again.we were a bit unfortunate having got the last three wides.I was also behind the goal and I thought Padraigs shot was a point one or two of our lads who were in a better position said it to the linesman.
Hatred? Jaysus man chill, it’s just a game😂😂
Disappointing result and the injuries are concerning. Mullen's looked a hand injury, didn't look good for two weeks time. Our defending was poor, Lawlor hasn't looked good under a high ball in two matches now which is a concern. We had opportunities to clear the ball before both of their second half goals but failed to do so. Padraig Walsh looks like he's struggling with the pace of the game now. Eoin Cody and Tom Phelan had fine games, some excellent direct running by the two of them, Drennan was disappointing, he was never involved. This looks likes TJ last season tbh, still some good flashes but he's very slow and doesn't seem to be able to win the ball in the air as cleanly as he used to. Missed two fairly scorable frees also. Midfield isn't settled at all, looked like Billy Ryan was playing there at times in the 2nd half, that didn't work.
Ref was bad no doubt about it, he let far too much go and gave the Wexford backs the benefit of the doubt way too often. The penalty looked a foul from my angle but I was at the opposite goal and didn't see it 100% clearly particularly where it happened. Also why was the free given to Wexford right at the end when we scored the disallowed goal? I was at the wrong end and it wasn't mentioned in any of the match reports.
Both mullen and butlers injuries were from wild pulls. I'll have to look at it again if I see a replay but how we weren't awarded numerous frees in injury time is beyond me. To me the ref bottled it and that criticism is justified. We have to move on now and if mikey carey is near enough the pace he needs to start against Galway. Hopefully the injures lads are available but it didn't look good. Mullens touch and striking were poor before he went off. I thought eoin Cody was a genuine threat and if we fed him more he would do harm even though Wexford had an extra man back there.
We seem to have lost the know how in winning tight games. Even when we got ahead towards the end I didn't fancy us to hold out. There was too much space left out there which made it only too easy to create openings when they became available. Plus we don't seen to be able to put those half chances away like we once did.
I fear the season could be derailed with the injuries as we could be talking up to 5 definite starters missing against Galway which would make them strong favourites in my book.
All in all it was a pretty underwhelming performance which has been the calling card of this particular set of players for a few years now.
On the ref- let's call a spade a spade here - he wasn't big enough to deal with the crowd today and gave a series of mystifying decisions against Kilkenny, none more so than the penalty. As has been correctly observed elsewhere the same frees were not given in the other direction. The classic whine from the beaten team I'll concede but this was unquestionable today and makes a big difference in a tight game like that.
I'm assuming Mullens injury was as a result of a late pull over the sideline which went unpunished naturally. I could see blood from uo in.the stand and blood doesn't just start seeping out from skin of its own accord.
Hopefully all we be available for 2 weeks time.careys legs would be needed in croke pk I feel.
Adrian mullen fractured thumb by the sound of it. Padraig walsh last shot was wide. Was behind it.
Mossy possible did something to his hamstring scoring his goal.
Butler received a kind of ankle tap trip. Was in a fair bit of pain. He looked to have planted his foot down out of normal sink/stride because of the ankle tap trip. Think he got the free. Hopefully not achilles bad-though he tried to hobble on for a few mins after it.
Seemed a bit fishy when Match put back 10 minutes and not even near a sell out!!! Was that Wexford's decision or Leinster Gaa??
Either way to be so far ahead and petting them peg back that lead has to be a concern after leaving Galway back into a few weeks back also.
Both Kilkenny and Galway will go into this Final after dissapointing performances but it's very concerning leaving Wexford beat us yet AGAIN.
We started the game very well and raced into a 8 or 9 point lead i know it was early but we should of being able to control the game better and not go in a point behind . We scored 2 goals but we tried to force the goals in the first half. Wexford got a very soft penalty in my book anyway. Maybe I'm biased but I just thought we had to work much harder for a free.
Wexford done to us in the 2nd half what we done in the first. They had a few goal chances. We were making basic errors and wexford were just cuter. Some of our defending was shocking and the ball into the fowards so predictable. I train u13s where one defender goes for the ball and the other one waits for the break but today we had 2 and 3 defenders going for the same ball and a Wexford lad waiting for the break.
Obviously Richie Reid and deegan were loses but to lose butler, mullen and then mossy really stretched things. Mullen looked in a bit of pain walking off and only 2 weeks for all these lads to come back could be tight.
Tom phelan was excellent infairness to him and he will start the leinster final but alot more questions than answers. Billy Ryan,Donnelly, drennan all quite and the subs didn't work. We probably needed subs with a bit of legs. I'm definitely not convinced with Darragh Corcoran and I'd much prefer to see Mikey Carey.
It's maybe fair to say that based on matches in both provinces but in reality the likes of kilkenny and Galway will up their game when they meet their munster counterparts.
I've no doubt kilkenny, whoever they meet after the leinster final, will give it 100% and will have every chance of making an all ireland final if they beat Galway.
I see you’re as positive as ever 👍
There's no doubt in my mind that if either Kilkenny, Galway, Dublin or Wexford were in Munster, none of them would make it out.
Just stopped on the way home and there's no abuse here but the refs performance was as poor as I've seen in a long time. The result didn't really make a difference and the performance at times was good, at times poor but many decisions were shocking altogether. We conceded 4 goals which is a worry. Hopefully butler will be available for the leinster final.
I suspected Wexford would win, they’ve had the upper hand on Kilkenny for the past few years. If Kilkenny have ambitions of getting to AI winning level they need to seriously up things
Why was that game not shown live... ppl want to see the end of leinster championship... that game better than anything munster could serve.
Had we thinking I had tuned into South East Radio by accident. They spend the whole afternoon eugolising Wexford potential demise and saying the Leinster Championship NEEDED Wexford
Ref was shocking, but all in all its the next day v galway that counts.lyng took no chances today with injuries.2 weeks now to push thi gs on and get to all ireland semi final.
That’s true….commentary is shocking.
In fairness kclr said a lot of things in the last 10mins..
KCLR saying Pádraig Walsh had definite point waved wide?
I'm growing a passionate, irrational hatred for Wexford! Do they realise they're 4 other teams in the Leinster Championship?
Ah come on only for the ref Wexford were bet out the gate
So in this Leinster we have only managed to beat Westmeath, Antrim and Dublin. It's hardly inspiring is it. Shocking
A capitulation it's been called on radio one...
