expensive even with the discount (but i don't think i've seen greater than 20% in previous sales), but very good quality speakers that might be of interest to some people
Deals, Discounts, Promos & Special Offers | Sonos
Any idea if upgrade discounts for legacy products can be applied to sale prices?
upgrade discounts are applied through the app aren't they? I doubt they'd stack the discounts...
edit : t's and c's say you can't, but maybe it'd work
The Discount Credit is valid only at http://www.sonos.com and will not expire until used. The Discount Credit is single use. The Discount Credit cannot be combined with any other promotion, discount, or special pricing and may not be used on gift cards, refurbished products, or third-party products.
edit 2 - it gets worse - the upgrade discount of 15% replaces the sale price, so you can't even see the sale price on the summer offers page and can't get the sale price in the checkout. so to get the 25%, you'd have to purchase using a different email address
It was changed a while back so they can be activiated in the online account.
Just had a read of the T&Cs of the upgrade program.
So looks like a no.....
I dont like the way Sonos brick devices after a few years - rendering them useless. I wouldn't trust spending much on them.
Couple expensive units linked to below for example...

They dont brick devices anymore. They got huge fight back against that.
Now when you trade in you get a 15% off a new speaker but your old one continues to work.
the 15% discount cannot be stacked.
Seems like Harvey Norman is matching the prices (with the 25% discount added) on the Sonos website.

Ha, I just bought a sub off Currys for €679 in what I assumed was a misprice, it went back up to €949 off them after I ordered it. Still slightly cheaper than the current sale price off Sonos, sounds great too.
Wonder will they price match Sonos themselves? Would be bargain especially with the revolut cashback , suppose not eh treasure island
The white sub is showing €679 at the moment.
Even with 75% off Sonos stuff is overpriced junk.
Have to disagree, for years I have had various Bose, B&O, Samsung, LG speakers and sound bars, Sonos speakers are fantastic for what you pay, particularly in pairs and connected to the Beam for home cinema. The Roams are great for bathrooms, but the charge duration is a little annoying. can’t speak at the moment about the new Era speakers, but I’ll be ordering soon.
You sir are incorrect right there.
Have them though out the house and ability to group speaker and have fantastic sound through out the house when needed is class. Never mind the surround sound for movies and matches, integrated Google and Alexa, etc etc...
They're a luxury item, people can survive without them. But if you want to spend money on speakers they are highly recommended.
Also you are not just paying for the hardware, but also the software. Sonos have reportedly spent over $1 billion on R&D over the last 5 years.
The simplicity in setting up and using the software is what makes it so popular. It just works.
Yeah, as far as wifi speakers go, they're excellent, miles ahead of echo and google home in terms of sound quality.
I have spent money on speakers, proper speakers and a proper amp which can produce a wide and accurate sound stage.
Most of the Sonos stuff comes with no Subwoofer, you have to pay extra.
They cost multiple times though.
Just to note I used top cash back also and got 6% cashback back on top of the discount on the Sonos website.
I wouldn't touch Sonos with a barge pole. I'm the owner of multiple bricked units that I can't even use for line-in.
They've bricked units before. They could do it again. This 'bargain' could work out very costly.
None of mine work.
No they wont. The will not want a repeat of the reputational hit they took from both unhappy customers and from a sustainability viewpoint.
At the time they were very explicit about the consquences choosing to accept the upgrade offer which is excatly why I didnt upgrade then. I wasnt prepared to accept the T&Cs that would have bricked my Play5.
They changed their upgrade offer T&Cs in response to the outcry and as a result I still have my Play 5 operating on then Gen1 app.
There are few tutorials around on the interwebs of peeps hacking their Play5 speakers to allow for inline connection with a bluetooth adapter also.
Wasn’t bricking voluntary to take advantage of discounted upgrades?
Yes. It was clearly mentioned before you accepted the upgrade.
Its why I didn't upgrade some of my speakers.
My system was involuntarily bricked. I did not agree or want any upgrades. My system was working fine... Until it wasn't.
I am aware that there is some process where you can claim your 30% 'discount' to get a new system, but I did not avail of that. I just wanted my old system to work again.
That is most unusual, I thought the owner had to put the unit into “Recycle Mode” for bricking to occur, rather than any software interference directly from the company without owner consent.
Of course I could be wrong, what did Sonos customer service say when you contacted them?
Yes, it was unusual, but that is what happened. I didn't put it into 'recycle mode' or do anything else of that nature.
That's why there was such a hoo ha at the time. I'm sure if you search of it, there may still be some threads on it somewhere. It even made the news. The Sonos community were going nuts. Some people lost thousands, with a sonos in each room.
I can't remember exactly what customer service said when I contacted them, I'd have to dig up the emails. Probably something along the lines of giving me a discount if I want to upgrade to their new system.
Anyway, I'd never again buy a system like that where you are totally dependent on their software for it to work. Who knows when the next 'upgrade' will happen.
Again, I’m sorry, but the process for bricking, and the controversy around it, was dependent on the owner actually choosing to brick their devices, it was an opt in, not opt out process.
It is explained here:
I did find some articles from 2017 which referred to a software update which caused the speakers to unsync from the app if the owner didn’t update their data settings, that caused a bit of an outcry, but Sonos tweaked their software to re-sync without the owner needing to provide Sonos with the requested personal data.
Im really surprised Sonos didn’t help you, that was bad form.
In the market for two Era 300s to go with my Arc. I am clueless with the cashback thing but any advice to get these as cheap as possible from wherever is very much appreciated. I am willing to sign up to a cashback service if needs be.
Many thanks,
M
