Was that most explicit Ken has ever been about his dislike for rugby.
Really enjoyed it.
Ken needed to be on the rugby pod after his delight on the other one, it was great.
The rugby pod is much more entertaining with Barry Murphy. Just can't take to Shane Horgan
Does anyone else find it that second captains audio beds have ruined some songs for you? Or at least you can only think of the second captains when you hear it? Happened to me twice this weekend. I heard red right hand by Nick Cave and instead of thinking of peaky blinders or anything else, all I could hear was Gary Neville shouting for **** sake. And I watched guardians of the galaxy 3 and they had the song used in the egomaniacs slot at one point, I was waiting for Eoin to read an email about how Ken blanked more people somewhere...
They should bring back Egomaniacs for the summer when the football season is at a low ebb.
I reckon murph would be against bringing egomaniacs back
I always get a dopey glowing smile when i hear the songs in real life. I would consider that an enhancement.
I like administrator of the week.
Still amazed to hear that it's not ROG saying administrator of the week...
I was only thinking yesterday they should occassional do some sort of throwback to the Isolating pod. Maybe tie it up with the Tour De France or something, since DaviO'Doherty is such a cycling fella.
The best niche section they should bring back is Murphy's County Pages.
I absolutely love Gosh by Jamie XX purely because of the sound bed. Impossible not to hear “that’s why sports important” when you listen to it.
Bit late on this but it irked me a lot that neither Ken or Damien Delaney acknowledged that Trent Alexander Arnold grew up playing midfield for Liverpool's youth teams. Obviously it's different playing there in the Premier League but he clearly would have a good understanding of the position.
Murph has a book coming out
Lots of time the thread is bogged down in nitpicking and criticising but I think Jamie and Mal are so good. I didn't watch a second of the hurling at the weekend but I listened to the two lads from start to finish and thought it was excellent. The two lads have a bit of personality. I enjoyed Jamie's reference to the Leo di Caprio meme.
Jamie is genuinely an inspirational guy!
Have they mentioned that Murph is lining out for the Dublin Masters gaelic football team? Eoin made a very brief remark about it yesterday during the book chat, but I can't remember anything else about it. Copped him in a photo on a Kildare GAA facebook page after a game a few weeks back. Surely an opportunity for a laugh at Murph's expense....or, more worryingly, has he now turned and gone 'Full Dublin'!?
I'd argue this is one of the least nitpicky threads on Boards!
Totally agree about the hurling pods, they'e just brilliant. The combination of genuine enthusiasm for the game and genuinely funny contributors makes it - I'll say it - the best GAA show going.
Well the standard for nitpicky threads is pretty high, ha. But just in general, it's easier to pick faults sometimes, so I thought I would praise the lads.
It's great, as you say "genuine enthusiasm"...it's so important and makes it very listenable.
Hurling pods have been excellent. Football pods have been absolute snore fests.
Thought the gaelic football chat was interesting, especially the the bits about how Dublin have changed and ways to improve the game.
Murph's take on Roscommon's tactics was very interesting, lead to a good discussion then on the current game. Was the best football podcast since Oisin left
For me it was more of an off-season discussion when there’s not much to be said about the actual teams involved. The Gaelic football season is incredibly slow burning. Only really gets going at the quarter final stances and really really only gets going at the semi final stage.
Hard listen today, had mid to high hopes there could be promise after hearing Eoins Nike town San Francisco team chant but had to fast forward over the rest
'the question is over now, I invite you to speak'
Great to have such a good football pod today.
Good to hear Noorrudean today. I’m not a Man Utd fan but agree with him that football was better in the 90s *old man shakes fist at cloud *
I got into football by watching AC Milan and Italian football in the early 90s. English football was garbage in comparison. All changed now.
Am I imagining things or have they not talked about the Europa League Final on any of the pods this week. (Maybe I was distracted when/if they mentioned it today)
It was mentioned today
I actually ended up really enjoying that running chat. I'm normally a bit unsure about the 'book' ones as it's usually very little about the book and ends up being a fairly mundane biography of the reader themselves instead - but I found her a really good listen. She really dug into the sorts of sporting insights you can only get from a professional. And it's always a joy to hear someone chat specifics on something they're passionate about.
