None of his pre-covid years evidenced any of his promises about what his economic policy would do either though: he promised his 2017 tax cuts and jobs act would lead to '4%, 5% 6% or more' GDP annual growth. I know many formerly Democrat voters who opted for Trump in 2016, and many independent Americans who opted for Trump too. This was a far more widespread phenomenon than many people believe.
The situation is different now, admittedly, but in 2016, it wasn't so clear cut.
The people trying to crowbar all Trump voters into extreme "MAGA-ists" do not know what they're talking about.
Trump was called racist, and later the WHO agreed with his policy not just for the US, but for the entire world.

Had he done so, Trump would have been arraigned accordingly (and could still be arraigned today, if evidence can be produced to justify the allegation).
As the poster says, the responsibility of what happened that day lies exclusively with those who perpetrated the crime. Anything less absolves them of the responsibility they quite obviously deserve to bear.
In the course of those events, Trump told them to go home - not to continue any seditious act.

I am defending Trumps record on some things during his term. I have also defended other Presidents regardless of Party down the years and will continue to do so. As I said Presidents do good & bad.

Suggested that going to work while infected was safe, ".“If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”. Pushed for schools to re-open even though community transmission had remained high in many places. Falsely claimed that children are “almost immune” and “don’t have a problem,” Came out with conflicting messages and conveyed misinformation about coronavirus that was often at odds with public health officials. Touted the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat the virus. Publicly criticized the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. Push for re opening despite being warned of a significant risk of resurgence of the virus. It was a shitshow.
It's not only disingenuous to try and absolve Trump of anything to do with Jan 6th, it's downright stupid. The man lied and lied continuously about a stolen election, which is why the attempted insurrection happened in the first place. Without that continued lie, there wouldn't have been any attempt to storm the Capitol. Trump knew how dangerous his lie was and he knew that his words could have possible serious consequences.
He is complicit in what happened on that day, because he was the progenitor of the events.

I'm alarmed that when Clinton said the election was "stolen" in 2016, the same people (rightly) condemning Trump had nothing to say when Clinton said exactly the same thing.
It seems that one side can claim the election was stolen, whereas the other side cannot.
The only consistent person here is me - as I'm against both sides claiming the election was stolen.
