That's a pretty big bet to make , both that any future charges would be legally disqualifying in nature and that they'll actually have happened before the meat of the Primary season..
For someone like Christie they need a long shot to come in to get the nomination, I'm guessing that's why they are taking the gamble.

If there are 2 or 3 more legal findings against him, the GOP will know that it is highly likely ALL independents will not vote for him. At the moment, we aren't there yet.

The problem for the GOP is that anything other than him being in jail and/or legally barred from running (by the current Administration) screws them and they know it.
If he wins the Primary - He loses in 2024
If he loses the Primary for all the above reasons - He will pollute the vote to such an extent that whoever the GOP picks will lose because the hard core won't vote for them. If the MAGA set feel that any part of the GOP were remotely complicit in "taking Trump out" then they will sit out the vote.
The best bet the GOP have at winning in 2024 is for Trump to be in jail and for the GOP hands to be "clean" of involvements . Then their candidate of choice can play both ends of the GOP voting pool sharing their "righteous anger" with the MAGA loons and telling them that they will pardon Trump and launch all kinds of hearings and investigations into the Democrats to "make sure they pay for what they've done" whilst at the same time telling the moderates and independents that they'll run a regular professional ship and they'll be grown ups etc.

Indeed, apparently their variant of Sky News is so far right it could give Fox News or GBeebees a run for their money. I’ve seen snippets from Sky News Australia and they’re sometimes wierd. Things like B-roll footage of an interview guest on a street somewhere looking sternly at the camera while it pans out in slow-motion….all while the interviewee themself is actually talking with them in the studio. Very over the top dramatic stuff, no doubt to underline a sort of “this is serious, and so are we” vibe.
Australia gave us the Murdochs and there are plenty of supporters for that type of fanaticism going back decades there for the Trumps to make money from.

If it weren’t for the fact that Federal organisations maintain staff across political administrations, the US might not have survived those 4 years as well as they had. If it weren’t for the various checks & balances in the US system, Trump would have attempted to rule by decree like a King and he is probably now kicking himself for not trying that more. This is a man who clearly has no love for democracy nor the rule of law and should never be in position where he’s supposed to be the official defender of those things.
He is a man who upon losing his election became a traitor. He egged on his own rag-tag militia to storm the Capitol in a move that would have made General Early jealous. Flags of the Confederacy stormed the Union’s Rotunda, perhaps suggesting that Trump had been born 100 years too late for another American “presidency” that would better suit his supporters.
DeSantis is also a product of the doubling down of destructive “othering” of people that Trump only encouraged during his time. His war on “woke” has become an excuse to slowly devolve Florida into an Orwellian nightmare where being homosexual is criminalised, where books are being preemptively taken down for fear of being ideologically incorrect…something we tend to see in facist totalitarian states. Florida is not a well run state. I’m not too opposed to DeSantis taking Disney down a peg or two, I never did like the idea of them owning and administering a large chunk of a state, but his fight with them smacks of him mostly trying to flirt with MAGA in order to win them away from Trump. “Look! I’m fighting the WOKE lame stream media! Love me!!”
Trump and his ilk need to simply go away from politics. There’s room for actual conservative politics anywhere, but not this corrupted brand of blatant lies and collective protection of one man-child’s wafer-thin ego.
He made a mockery of the office and reduced common decency in office to a distant memory, and that's before you start on his obvious corruption, disregard for the law and attempts to destroy democracy.
