Ghost Protocol is still my favourite M:I film, Rogue Nation is great but I'm not a fan of the anti-climactic ending and whilst Fallout definitely has some of the best action the plot is a mess that I still can't explain even after several rewatches. GP is so much fun and feels more like a team movie too.
Getting great reviews.
Tom Cruise saving action cinema.
Finally, a blockbuster film to go see in the cinema.
As much as I've loved the McQuarrie era of barnstorming physical stunts, I do wish Brad Bird got to direct a couple more of these; or indeed a Bond flick. His talent for the caper and super science set-pieces has always been so good...
I can feel the energy for this, its one where Ill grab and kids and say, were going to the cinema.
Compare and contrast with the new Indiana Jones train top scene...it looked like a computer game character at points!
Two rotten ones now so down to 98 percent, but it does look fantastic can't wait to see it.
Thats proper film making, not the cgi nonsense so prevalent nowadays.
Have to applaud Cruise and McQuarrie.
Technically Fallout was very exciting and looked great, but plot wise there wasnt much going on and it was pretty illogical.
Its all at a breakneck speed, it could have done with a bit less action and more plot.
My body is ready.
even a 5 star from the guardian lol
Meh, why not - we get to see it sooner that way :)
Many of the reviews are predictably ecstatic. Roll on next week - it’s the one blockbuster series that gets me properly thrilled to see the new one. A hard-earned status amid oceans of muck!
why is it opening here on a Monday?
Is Chan still going? On reflection it has been a while since I've seen him headline something - and his American work had become very ... "safe"? Whereas Cruise just seemed to amp up the set pieces, like he saw The General and went, "that, but more".
MI 1, 2 & 3 are free on All 4 now.
4, 5 & 6 will be added Thursday, Friday & Saturday if anyone wants to binge them before going to see 7 in the cinema next week.
No explosion ? I suppose they will use CGI to put that in.
Jackie Chan is still going at 69 even if he is slowing down a bit now and I'd say he is more Buster Keaton than Cruise.
As long as Cruise can stay physicaly fit I can see him doing many of the major driving, riding, flying and slow mo running for a few more years.
On a vaguely related note, Cruise's birthday today, 61 year old. More than ever the Just For Men will be doing its job. There can't be that many "Cruise does crazy Buster Keaton shít" movies left in him, surely.
Asked the smart speaker when M:I would be out and she replied mentioning DR part 2 in 2024. Got it right when I asked again after I said M:I 7.
Why wouldn’t you watch Fallout before watching this? The story has definitely become more serialised since McQuarrie took over, so there’s definitely forward progress and character development there that will carry over here going by the trailer. But more importantly: it’s a bloody great film, and IMO the best in the series to date. Makes perfect sense to catch up on it before considering seeing this, would be silly not to.
I don't know any spoilers for the new film but I would say definitely watch Fallout first. Parts of it wouldn't have made sense if you hadn't seen Rogue Nation, which mightn't have mattered too much with these films but still...
I know it isn’t out yet but that doesn’t mean that the story or spoilers haven’t got out.
Probably? Who can say as the new one's not out yet.
These films aren't heavy on plot so you're probably ok, but from the trailers it looks like Dead Reckoning will have returning characters from Fallout.
Fallout also links back to Rogue Nation as an important part of its plot is ... fallout, if you will, from the events of Rogue Nation.
I haven’t seen FALLOUT yet and had intended to watch all the movies before DEAD RECKONING which I thought was coming in August.
To the best of my recollection these films have not been connected by any plot threads with the exception of the fate of Michelle Monaghan’s character.
I rather rewatch the series at a leisurely pace rather over the next week or two, so does anyone know if it will be necessary to have seen FALLOUT before the new movie?
Just yes, no or don’t know answer are sufficient so as to avoid spoilers.
Thank you.
Well his boss from the very first movie is back for this one so I guess it’s possible there is some flashback to 1996…
Yeah could be.. certainly that bit with the old boss is very flashback feeling from their first mission impossible film.
"Let's fight!"
"OK... here? Or on top of the train like usual?"
Which bits struck you as looking different?
Think Crusie is made younger as some scenes maybe a flashback?
I'd say this will be the biggest summer film this year, it will probably take the wind out of Indie 5 too , coming out 12 days after Indie
Yes its very good
Trailer looks good apart from the dodgy cgi but the last film looked great cgi wise so Id expect this to too.
Tom sure likes to run.
