Not including presenters not already on the station, who would you like to see getting a show on Radio Nova?
Bit unlikely but I think John Kenny would be a good shout, after that Classic Rock Show he presented on RTÉ.
Tom Dunne would be great. Dave Fanning too.
I like PJ and Jim in the morning but the music is getting very repetitive.
What else are folks listening to?
other stations? primarily 8 radio for me, but they're online only at the moment.
Nah, don't be subjecting Nova listeners to the cash machine too! 😉
I'll subject you to this one instead!
Between Nova and Classic Hits - they don’t seem to understand consistency in scheduling.
Their schedule changes every few weeks and presenters disappear without mention.
You’re never going to achieve higher ratings with the lack of consistency that those stations exhibit
Who have we lost lately?
Marty, Dee, Pat and Greg seem to have been mainstays of the station for years.
I think this is straying away from the object of this particular thread. There is a more general thread about Radio Nova.
Bringing it back on track, another DJ that Radio Nova could theoretically sign up might be Dave McGrath from KFM. Why? Because he was a mainstay of the pirate Capitol Radio/Nitesky Radio and displayed a pretty catholic taste in rock music and he also presented an Irish rock show on the unrelated Capital Radio/Rock 104 (now FM104).
John Barker (Dublin City FM, previously 98FM) was a bit of a missed opportunity. He'd have been a good host for Locals Only
Paul McLoone doing two shows this weekend. One on Saturday, one on Sunday, both called "The Ultimate Playlist"
Tom Dunne was MCing at an event I was at the other week.
so is Greg's Saturday Night soundtrack gone with Paul McCloone on now ?
Maybe Nova just needs to hold onto the presenters it has.
I followed Pj and Jim from Classic hits but tbh lately I'm flicking round stations.
PJ seems to be every second week 'off filming' and once his kids arrive he's going to be non existent there.
He just doesn't seem on form and too much boring chat about the partner the forthcoming babies etc.
Jim is off this week as well leaving just Dee to hold the show together.
I'm looking for a new morning show.
I would assume Tom is on decent money at Newstalk seeing as he must be staff, surely, and was moved from a daytime slot. I'd keep that going til pension age if I had it... which is surprisingly soon.
I understand that this was a once-off this weekend for Paul McLoone, for the moment anyway.
Who else should Radio Nova sign up...maybe in an ideal world? Barry Dunne from 98FM - I don't listen to him now, but I liked his music choice on 1990s pirate Coast FM. Bob Conway - he always had a fairly catholic taste in rock music and indeed played quite a bit over the years when given the chance.
I think Bob Conway still DJs at some events.
Billy Mac from Midlands 103 would be good, he might not want to move or travel to Dublin though.
Niall here from Midlands 103. I've filled in for Billy on a number of occasions in the past... & always enjoyed it. He's just turned 80 years of age and is 'some man for one man' as they say!
Our HQ & main studios are in Tullamore but we take a live feed from our Mullingar studio (and don't schedule any ads) for those two hours so he doesn't have to go far from home.
Billy would fit Nova alright... but he's very much a midlands man and I can't see him wanting to travel anywhere, never mind Dublin, to do his show.
Understandable Niall! If Nova DID have a Midlands studio though he'd be pretty good.
he would... but I don't think that'd happen (Nova opening a Mullingar studio!) or that Billy would be interested in jumping ship at this stage.
Another (unlikely) call: Ali Dowey, RTÉ 2XM.
