Just remove your phone as a key so it can't be used to open the car via bluetooth (you can still open via app I belioeve and rest of normal in car phone functions will work). Also suggest Pin to drive is enabled for the extra security.
So the app can still lock and unlock door without Bluetooth key pairing, is that what you're saying?
Yes I have PIN to drive turned on from the first day
A new feature has been added in the last week to the Tesla Mobile App to address this very issue. Under “Security and Drivers “ option select “Passive Authentication” option and turn it OFF. That way you can leave Bluetooth enabled on your phone for any other options you may want it for but the function to automatically lock and unlock car (one of the best features) is disabled. If you don’t see that option available go to the App Store and download the updated version

Hi, All. Ordered the Model Y over the weekend (it was existing inventory and estimated delivery is to 4 June). I used Keith's referral link (from this thread).
Question: What do most people recommend for home charger? There is no obvious answer on Google for purchasing the Tesla charger and then finding an installation company + using grant.
Thanks for any advice
That's very impressive efficiency, I'd imagine most would be higher than that. I'm getting 172 Wh/km almost regardless of the trip type. At one stage last week, all 4 Avg Energy readings on the car were showing 172. Half my driving would be at 120 on motorways.
On the waving thing, I must admit I don't wave at other Teslas when in Dublin. Outside of Dublin I'll wave at Ys regardless (apologies to the MSM in Clonroche on Saturday, I was a bit slow getting the hand up). I'll be ready to wave back at 3s, but they've got to initiate the wave.
Whats the best way to be prepared for a Tire issue on the Model Y, before heading off into to the west for example.
Have purchased Pucks and have a 12V tire inflator, it occurred to me that should I get a blow out or serious tire issue the local guys may not have a suitable tire, is this true should I purchase a spare?
Where would you carry the spare?
Is there enough room under the boot floor for a spare tire?
Not sure it would fit, it would have to go in the boot otherwise, not great but better than the alternative if local garages are unlikely to have a suitable tire, however I'm unsure if this is the case ?
It's a pain. You'd get a warning about slow puncture and if it was like that any garage most likely would get it plugged. It probably doesn't hurt having one of these in the frunk if you travel really remote places, although it will render the tyre inrepairable.
I was on this forum last week asking the same question, I found carcharger.ie an excellent company to deal with and good value at €1200 for a Wallbox Pulsar plus which will do my current 530e and my future model y. Grant process took two hours to get my approval letter. Electrician coming Thursday 9am to assess the route from the charger back to the fuseboard and job to be done within two weeks of that. Hope this helps.....
Try not be so paranoid. The doors lock when you walk 2 meters away from the car. It doesn’t sit there open while your in the shops trying on jeans 👍
One of my favourite less well known features - if you press the lock icon at the top of the screen, the car will lock as soon as you exit and shut the doors.
Especially handy if you have it set to not auto lock at home.
It was more of the case if I have the bluetooth on and in the living room (which the car is parked directly outside by the window) - Grand during the day but in the evening when the curtain is closed, I won't know then.
Almost always get a wave back from fellow Model 3 drivers, but rarely from Y drivers (Not that I have seen that many as yet in the rural wilds); it's almost as though they are looking down on us..😁
I only get waves from MY drivers:) Got one yesterday from a UK reg MY and my wife asked me whether I knew the guy. I was like - shiiiiiit!!! She said don't get sucked into the Tesla owner mentality:)
Checked today, it's a different beep to the car has advanced/green light and is accompanied by a STOP message on the display.
maybe I’ve got the wrong end of the stick - are you waving at EV’s, or is this only a Tesla thing?
And I thought it was the early adopter 3 owners ignoring the noobs 😀
Test it.
Had me wondering, even though the phone says "Connected", if I go out to the car and try the door handle while leaving the phone indoors, the door won't open and the screen shows, tap card on door pillar to open. Wouldn't want anyone opening the door if I didn't want them to.
This is gas, it’s like 2014 all over again 🤣 Nice to see people happy though !🙌
Gumbo, thanks, tried it out earlier, yes actually it is about 2 meters. Left it near behind the car about 1 meter away with Bluetooth turned on (i.e. Connected) and went to open the door, it unlocked the door. Moved the phone inside the house by the main door approx. another meter away from earlier spot, it wouldn't open.
Now I can rest easy knowing that at least when I'm in the house, I can leave the bluetooth on.
Curious how it detects distance because Bluetooth certainly have longer range. Must be some kind of time measurement when signal is sent out and received
The walk away and lock feature works perfect every time. The car horn beeps to let you know it’s locking. Can’t imagine going without it. Add pin to drive and you’re laughing. No point having the nice features if you’re gonna just disable them.
as somebody mentioned above re tesla vision when moving off from stopped. I also get the random beeps with a red line to stop at the bumper when I’m driving off at say a traffic light or from behind a car. Does my head in. Just the tesla Vision **** itself. Funnily tho. I drove a model 3 today and the uss isn’t exactly smooth running either. Every time a car passed it showed a yellow ring even tho the car was well away from me. I still don’t 100% trust vision tho.
The drivers' door opening feature from the app works similarly. ie, you have to be close to the car for it to work. I was very nervous that the door could open if was on holidays and accidently pressed the button. Door could then blow fully open in wind with no way of closing it.
Turn on PIN to drive if you're worried.
Remote opening via App works anywhere (i.e. don't have to be in bluetooth range). As long as your mobile have data, it will work from my testing. Oddly, opening the frunk will prompt you for a second confirmation but not the door unlock.
If you are concerned about accidental press, what you could do is change the 4 icons. That way if you want to lock/unlock via App, you have to go into the Controls section to do so. How you do that is hold the icon and drag, it will let you swap it for something else. Side note, the default app is showing 4 icons, you can actually add a 5th one. Once you get to the change icon menu, you just need to drag the one you want to the far right side of the row where the icon is, if you do it just right, the 5th icon will stay.
That's done from the first day 😉

Yes, the door locking and unlocking will work anywhere. But the drivers door opening from app will only work within bluetooth range. (At least on my Model 3 anyway.)
This feature:
Interesting, I didn't notice that one before, i'll try it later today.
It is actually a different protocol under the Bluetooth guise. It is Bluetooth Low Energy but conceptually is no different than any walk away system. The clever bit is they use your phone with the existing hardware while other manufacturers give you a "key". The car has a mesh of beacons which can measure the intensity of signal received from the key and based on this can determine your position in respect to the car.
Seems like a decent offer

599 net price is pretty good these days
Think you'll struggle to get grant with Tesla charger, only advantage it had is a button to pop the charge port.
Look for load balancing, and solar panel integration to future proof it
