the kinzhal that wasnt a kinzhal. Klitchsco posing with an alleged kinzhal that was shot down, basically proves it to be false.
Kinzhal is 8m long 1m diameter, the missile fragment he's holding is less than half that wide

And from there not cross section or deflection geometry but paint job too to absorb some of the wider iirc radar bands, several types being used for different detection methods.
Same thing,common sense
And its not only about cross section, its about shape of the object as well
Look at the shape of f117 first stealth bombers that reflects radar waves, because of the way its designed.
And a missile would be harder to detect because it refects less radar waves than a B52
A glide bomb would be easier to detect than a dumb bomb because of its wings sticking out, because its more surface to reflect radar waves
They can detect it,but the hardest part is to get a target lock and shoot it down in time
“Its about size,not mass“
another term for cross sectional area in this case…
The tomahawk is smaller yes. Functionally too it is more dense as function of mass over volume than a bomber.
Its about size,not mass
A B52 have a larger cross section than a tomahawk missile
It's not so simple, and yet we still don't know if a patriot can interpret an hypersonic missile even it's just an air launched ballistic missile,
that is horrific reading...never mind WWI theyve gone back to the middle ages,as someone on that mentioned on that with the warmer weather there will be a plague of rats etc feeding on the bodies, all sorts of sickness will come out of that...the old black death even...
mass != cross section
A spherical 100 kg mass of gold and a spherical 100 kg mass of helium have very differently portioned cross sectional areas.
Mass is just a blip on the radar screen, thats all you need to see
Normally what burden of proof etc. looks like when making a contentious argument.
exactly and also why Patriot changed their software to face hypersonic missiles
No but any radar that can detect air threats and drones can
bit of a step up from the old zil they used to use...just saw that clip with the wagner guy, didnt know even gazprom had their own mercenaries? what a fcuked up country...how many seperete groups of these do they have?
They do not measure mass from radar as its almost impossible to ascertain using radar alone.
You can measure approximate size (radar cross section) but not mass. Speed and acceleration can be determined by positional change and doppler effects. Mass cannot be measured.
Another factor in radar detection is the speed of an object. Many systems have software that will filter out objects depending on their speed. These are called velocity gates and are set depending on what you want to detect. It’s the reason that the NORAD radars didn’t originally detect those Chinese balloons (moving too slow) until someone tweaked the software.
Counter battery radars need to detect incoming fire at certain altitudes which they can give give a fire options but only in optimal conditions ,they won't detect a drone or low level glide weapons munitions, hence the term under the radar
This seems to happen quite a bit
Radar is a radar, its about frequencies, wavelenght, range and power behind it
Some are designed for detection, others are for target tracking and fire control
Anything can be detected and shot down

In a couple of months, we went from:
"Patriot systems are too complicated to use for Ukrainians" to
"Ukrainians are the first in history to shoot down an air-launched ballistic missile"
Because it's specifically designed to but even at that they aren't always perfect
Have you heard about counter battery artillery radar?how do you think they are able to detect incoming artillery shells?
i was looking forward to the tank towing contest...maybe next year...are they bentley convertables the big general got driven around in?
No they don't and Ukraine hasn't got an answer for them, the stormer it's Self I mentioned above is a short range air defense system but couldn't protect itself despite being static and not moving through open ground
I never said glide bombs can't be detected on radar, my issue is with assuming because you get a radar return that it can be easily shot down. By easy, I don't mean having a patriot battery right on the frontline.
I'm talking in practical terms.
Fair play on the drone operator to go to the effort to lead him over to safety. You want to encourage the Russians to surrender, but it really looks like he had to put a lot of time into herding this guy over to them.
The poster was gonna throw eggs at the Russians, then he was gonna fight mayo exile, in the end we get a one star review for an Irish landscape company some Russian lad works for! True internet warrior stuff!
Lancets are proving effective for Russia (at taking out Ukrainian equipment). The operators seem disciplined and go after high-value targets.
Based on the amount of videos every day, they don't have any shortage of them either.
In the case of a fibreglass glider, it's the metal bits that are most responsible for the radar return, which is why I mentioned them, not the surfce area of fiberglass, which is almost transparent to radar.
...until some of us were invited by the military and they could tell exactly where we had been. They said a glider is about as visible as a large bird, but faster, so it can readily be identified on radar
They have limited gun based systems too but No C-Rams ,and very much limited air defense systems at the front lines,
Seen a British stormer air defense system mounted on a humvee getting taken out by a lancet drone recently ,so no system is perfect,
