The key elements include six high speed charging hubs on motorways capable of charging eight vehicles simultaneously; 16 high speed charging hubs capable of charging four vehicles simultaneously; additional high power chargers at 34 current 50 kW locations; upgrading over 50 22 kW chargers to 50 kW, and replacing up to 264 locations with 528 charge points at the pre-existing pilot grade of 22 kW to next generation high reliability models.
Don't go too fast, it's almost perfect, if they'd have just brough the charger away from the wall by about 75cm most rear quarter panel charging cars would also be able to charge nose in. A luxury I'm going to miss when I trade in the Mini
Yeah they had to get something wrong
I'm sure the site will be limited to 75kW or something as well, knowing Ecars current innovative approach to grid connections 😬
Malahide Train Station possibly in line for expansion. Two new spaces marked.
I've ended up using the eCars CCS chargers a few times in Limerick. Have a PAYG account, just wondering is there a 3rd party I could sign up with to do better than their 68c a Kw.
Elli (part of Volkwagen but open to all Manufacturers)
are probably the cheapest for ESB at the moment however only if you go with the two paid subscription options - 47 cents and 49 cents a kWH depending on the plan. The "Drive Highway" plan also gives access to Ionity @ 35 cents a kWH.
However it has been fairly unreliable the last month with access disabled at ESB for probably the guts of over a week in that time.
Cheers for that. I definitely won't be using it enough to warrant the sub.
Yeh not for everybody, for the €7.99 sub break even point would be currently about 50 kWH per month based on current esb rate of 65 cents and elli rate of 49 cents.
If your car can charge faster than 40kW on DC or 7.5kW on AC freshmile is better value for ESB chargers... Although I suspect that won't last much longer
Does Freshmile work with Ionity here or just ESB ?
I drive a leaf so never asked that question, but as far as I'm aware it's just ESB
galway retail park getting upgraded again,
replacing the 50 with a 100. shame they couldn't leave that there and added a new 100. makes sense somewhere i guess.
Nothing eCars do makes sense…..no doubt it’ll be a 100kW unit capable of DC charging 2 cars at once, but there’ll only be 2 spaces and they’ll no doubt add an AC socket on the charger….
The NI fees are taking the toll on overall Ecars usage. Last week was a bank holiday so usage should have been up, but it was steady. This week usage is down almost 25% on CCS
Most of their "2-cars-at-once" chargers are Delta units not capable of AC charging
Their 3 charger "hubs" tend to be a 150kW Delta and dual or triple head 50kW FCP with AC so if I was a gambler that's what my money would be on
yeah, most likely... there is some hope yet
I'm not a fan of those units in the 2 (CCS) & 2 (CHAdeMO) configuration, but at least if it's 2 spaces then 2 CCS cars can charge (or 2 CHAdeMO) whichever turns up...
They still have the original 150kW units though like in Kilcullen with only 1 CCS plug on them and thats a fcuking disaster
I'm fairly sure (open to correction) that those 150kW units you refer to actually max out at 200kW and allow a CCS to pull 150kW and a chademo to pull 50kW at the same time.
I think it's a ridiculous situation as you could have a car queuing behind another despite a plug being free, one that happens to be the wrong shape
You don't see many petrol-only or diesel-only filling points on forecourts
Question for somebody who knows Derry (as I can't check it myself):
The UK NCR lists an ESB charger in "Templemore Leisure Centre" on the Buncrana Road (55.024553 -7.338951).
It's listed as "in service" and last updated on the 7/7/2021 and is a "Type 2 Mennekes (IEC62196)" at 22kW.
The ESB do not list that charger on their app, nor does it appear in ecarstats. Neither is it listed in Plugshare.
So I assume it's a retired charger and should not be listed as "in service"? Can anybody confirm?
From article
These areas include: Templemore Leisure Centre,
From:
Dated September 2022.
I have seen esb drop sites from their app while physically the charger is still there but broken for 5+ years. Later they upgrade it and it reappears.
So there may be physically something there but unlikely it works and unlikely it has been working for a long time. It may also have never been completed.
Another mention here
It's been dead a long time (and removed from the app)
The one in carlisle road in Derry was broken for a long time and removed from the app too until it was replaced fairly recently.
Surprised the one at the diamond hasn't been removed, even if it was working there's no parking space there anymore.
Somebody's not joining the dots on the UK's NCR then, annoying. Thanks for the input.
The unit is in place now but not turned on yet, seems to have decent length cables.
Interestingly it's a Dual CCS unit, so no more CHAdeMO or AC at this location.
I wonder are they doing the same in Clifden which is also being upgraded at the moment.
Good good, the less chademo the better
Ecars have already confirmed no new chademos from 2024
Not my photo. O bama plaza expansion by esb. Substation building on place and spaces marked. Looks like 3 chargers to me with 6 spaces (in addition to old charger in the distance. Might be 6+ cars can charge at once. I like chargers look to be moved out from the kerb to allow reaching front or back of cars. Not exactly a fuel pump layout but better than usual.
Between Obama Plaza and Kinnegad looks like eCars will be halfway through their commitment to 6 8 cars hubs. I wonder what their intent is for the other 3.
Looks to be an exact replica layout of ESB's newest EV charging station in the UK:
This might be a very basic question, does the ears card work in northern Ireland or do I need an ecars ni card?
Your existing card will work in NI.
Show me your money
I was just about to say the same. To me it sounds a bit arrogant or aggressive.
For those who haven’t yet activated auto top up, we suggest that you do so.
or else...
That's a fair jump just to start off a charge though. I suppose it only represents 29 units at high-power on a PAYG plan and a fiver was only going to be 7 units, so there was a high likelihood that the charge session would have dropped soon after initiating, leading to inefficiencies (and charger RAGE 🤬)
So yeah, maybe it's a good move.
