The hyperbole in this Tweet thread. Am I missing something here? I have cycled and driven down Griffith Avenue in the last couple of weeks and it seems ok to me. People really are mental when it comes to cycle lanes and parking.
a less infuriating Tweet, am I right in saying this is what will run alongside the rail track causeway thingy?
"Karen" has a ridiculous rant about Griffith Ave. and the mental replies after it, some of them may have breathed in leaded petrol fumes that affected their "brains" too much for many years....
The cycle Gutters on Griffith ave. would make a Dutch person break down in tears, but by Irish standards it's great infra! 😁
I don't get it like they're saying it has ruined the whole street and made traffic so much worse. The traffic seems fine on the avenue. With so many people out there with this attitude it makes me despair.
It's completely illogical and what Karen was saying means she been drinking the motorcar Koolade too much, they could have done a LOT more to accommodate a proper cycle lane, just like the one over on Braemor road...
Though cycling through the small narrow roads around Marino park you only have to look at the houses to see 2 or 3 cars parked in each driveway, so the residents are probably not cycling or walking in that area just like "Twitter Karen" they might want wider faster roads in their area to get the 2km to the shops, maybe the M51 should have been built in that area?
I note one person suggesting that cycling infrastructure has led to an increase in pedestrian deaths.
There must be some sort of cover up in the main stream media so. 😂
There was a proposal to put in a rapid build route along Ratoath Road and a new layout for Hanlons corner in January. Seems to have fallen off DCC radar completely
Cycled most of Griffith Avenue this morning. The cycle lane had quite an amount of wet cut grass in it, which made it extremely slippy, not to mind the various shores, drains and gutters that need to be observed as you cycle through.
The traffic on that road is diabolical from an abundance of traffic lights, some barely a couple of hundred metres apart.
I also counted 4 lollipop people outside ArdScoil Ris (and possibly a primary school?) this morning, some of whom were operating at pedestrian crossings. I presume that twit-her thinks the lollipop folk are needed to keep an eye on the dangerous cyclists, and not the saintly motorists.
Not at all. It's well known that cars plough through red lights like these. They know that it's cars that'll kill people. There was a plan to have cameras on the lollipop people, but seems to have fallen by the wayside.
To update my slightly snarky post, they've added wands to protect the new (short) cycle lane.
The sporadic 2 or 3 parking spaces every half kilometre is ridiculous. Blanket ban of on street parking on Griffith Avenue would be best.
Very hard to tell old people they have to walk a couple of hundred metres to get to their car.
(edit: middle aged people won’t want to do that either)
As a cyclist is there an option to turn right down Mobhi Road when going east along Griffith Avenue?
Yes.
I suspect not, that you'd have to wait at the pedestrian crossing. But it'd be useful since there would be kids heading to schoil caitriona that way?
This would be great for D5, lots of schools use this route too. I can't see how they'll do it though given the amount of cars that park on the route, there'll be murder.
I'm worried that DCC just seem to be doing presentations about new cycle routes and then they completely forget they exist.
-Hanlons Corner
-Ratoath Road
-Clonskeagh
-Queen St and Bridgefoot St
-Liffey Cycle Route (a saga in its self)
All long forgotten about, yet they're making more presentations about fictional cycle routes. Also the mess made of Griffith Avenue warrants a sincere apology, a tax refund and a resignation.
DCC are operating at something like 10 to 11% understaffed of their nominal headcount. i think they are unable to compete with the private sector on engineers etc., so there's probably a lot of wishful thinking on their part.
6 traffic light junctions, a poor road surface that's probably there since the 80's, an assault course to drive a car at the sea end of Vernon Ave. This stretch of road is one of the worst in the Clontarf area for cycling, and there's plenty of choice for dangerous roads....
i can't see twitter in work, i assume it's the idea to make the coast road along the front of st anne's park car free one day a week?
given the amount of cars heading to howth on a sunday, i suspect people living in raheny would riot over the idea.
not only Scoil Caitriona, but also Na Fianna home clubhouse and pitches. Lots of kids using their facilities and it's hard to believe you can't turn right to go down there. I will continue to use footpath on the opposite side if I'm with my own kids as it's safer, down the bus lane then to Na Fianna.
other side of the park, the road that leads from the coast up sybil hill along the front gates of the park beside St Paul’s and along brookwood avenue up until the Artane roundabout almost.
Residents will go mental anyways, they’ve opposed every single development in the area for years on the basis of too much traffic as it is
The amount of red light breaking by motorists at the crossroads at Sybil Hill/Brookwood Ave is a sight to behold
Can I ask why there's no standard bollard type dividing the road from cycle tracks? Surely it should be a standard height and appearance so it can be clearly defined in the rules of the road. There's same roads where one council owned area meets another that they are different.
he's turn up to the opening of an envelope , absolute melt
Public consultation now open on this. Looking at the map and drawings it's hugely disappointing to see the segregated cycleway will end just after Seafield Road in Clontarf, only 500 metres from the S2S cycleway. Classic Ireland, great idea, taken 90% of the distance but no bravery to complete the job properly.
This junction should be the prime candidate for a red light camera system in Dublin.
they'd probably have to make Vernon ave one way and remove parking spaces to complete the job and that's never going to happen
Correct, one way to the seafront, and one way up Belgrove Road. Ample parking facilities available opposite Sandbar. Easily done, shame that those in charge haven't the bravery to do it.
The current road on Vernon Ave between Kincora Road and Clontarf Road isn't wide enough at present for 2 way traffic. Cycling along it is a disaster at present.
