wtf is going on? Bizzarre
He knew his wife was interested in buying the land - that's a fact.
Whether or not to sell the land was discussed in a meeting in which he took part - that's a fact.
Hard to believe after 26 pages and all the news coverage, that someone could type something so bereft of the facts of this story, and think it summarises it.
So we have a councillor, who's now a Minister, who knows his wife is interested in buying a specific piece of council land that it is not yet for sale.
Nonetheless he goes ahead and takes part in a council meeting during which there is a discussion on whether or not the council should sell this specific piece of land.
And we think that's OK because we don't like a guy who runs a tech conference?
We're proving the old adage that you get the politicians you deserve.
Pooty Trumpgrave it is so. Who are we talking about lol
😂 At least you didn’t call him Putingrave.
I see Paddy Trumpgrave is being his usual gobshite self over on twitter.
But again he did nothing wrong, the opposition should keep pressure on FFG about this, get Mr. Burns, Meehole out, a disgraceful Tanaiste and Minister for Defence sorry for my OT rant about Meehole, Collins should go too
When did he vote to sell it?
I see Mr Collins has publicly admitted to knowing his wife wanted to buy the land when he voted to sell it.
fair enough. Santos is an outlier anyway.
It has happened. Haughey and Blaney.
Sure, there is a distinction but its rarely seen cause its incredibly weird for someone to refuse to step down when asked/prodded to do so.
This is not a good comparison for the Irish parliament and its a horrendous comparison for TDs quitting the government as opposed to the Parliament.
I suppose it allows both to save a little face, but if the minister took the Seamus Woulfe approach and bluntly refused to resign when called on to, then we would see the distinction.
All manner of people have asked George Santos to quit. He’s running for reelection. Still has his seat. Still casts votes. Definitely not the same thing as being fired.
Sure, but in Irish politics being fired and being asked to quit are essentially the same thing. Its a fairly pointless semantic argument.
We all get what overheal was referring to, even if he/she used the wrong name for it. The TDs weren’t censured, they chose to step down, though they were undoubtedly given a shove to do so.
Can take a horse to water..
When I wanted to ‘believe impeachment’ a moment ago though you took forceful exception to it?
Still haven’t contributed on censoring then? “Alas, you’re here for the argument.”
Sure sure, whatever you want to believe.
Ironically you could just contribute that instead of simply alluding to it and being argumentative. “We don’t do impeachment we do censoring” etc but I guess you’re trying to be a crank for some reason? “Now as a Yank blow-in” you couldn’t be more transparent your agenda is not the topic
censoring happens in the states too but the rep still has their seat
It does, as if you were bothered to read on how one can actually censor a TD you might find it illuminating. Maybe even educational. But alas, you are here for the argument, not the education.
Thanks for the semantic argument but it doesn’t advance much against what I was saying. 🤷🏻♂️
You can check my record on this site all you want.
I'm no fan of the Ditch and its blatant political journalism.
But, ill repeat, one cannot impeach a TD in Ireland. Thats.A.Fact.
Now as a Yank blow-in, you can take it as a piece of learning, or you can argue about it. Up to you.
Stomp semantically all you want but you’re saying they weren’t going to be fired so people trying to accredit ditch with firings etc. is a misnomer.
Do I need to repeat it?
You cannot impeach a TD in Ireland. Thats all. Using the word 'impeach' is common in the American vernacular.
This is Ireland remember, not America. That's my point.
So then, nobody was definitely ever fired and insinuations they would have been fired are horse crap?
You cant impeach a TD in Ireland.
Nah that’s bollocks. Trying to steal credit to call them firings. Giving ditch more credit than they got. Now if they were actually fired or impeached sure.
Are they the first young people to register?
