A new thread for Spring as there is a chance a few thunderstorms today and tomorrow.
Come on where are the videos
Definitely forks looking south towards the Fairview/Clontarf area from Beaumont, a few cloud to cloud strikes as well.
Sun starting to emerge now in Greystones with light rain
Uploaded D22 storm to youtube
Passed over now in Firhouse, biblical is the only word for the last 40 mins, on the way east now
My sons running training was cancelled after a very bright flash and huuuuge crack of thunder instantly, followed by a deluge, great stuff!
Rain rates of 240mm/hr clocked at station in Naas 😯
May doing what July often fails to do. Fair play.
Last storm in swords like that was the 80's when I was a kid.. we've had a few quick storms that intense over the years but never lasting that long... absolutely fantastic, 3 kids loves it.
Sitting here in Malahide, window open, (sheltered from rain) - like a pig in the proverbial.
LiveATC on and flightradar open too. Two a/c have landed in Dublin in the last 45mins. Approx 15+ diverts to Shannon, Cork, Belfast, Liverpool. They're in holds (holding patterns) as far away as overhead Cork.
Slow to get going and not as widespread as expected but some impressive storms nonetheless.
another video to follow
I’ve heard very occasionally over my 6+ decades, very occasional episodes of that constantly rumbling rolling thunder, in Ireland. My late mother used to adore the spectacle when it happened, she would have her eyes trained and enjoyed the spectacle of ball lightning on three days during her life. She quite frankly scared me as a very young kid as she got so positively excited 🤣
”This is great fun” was her take on it. When she was very elderly and in our apartment, lightning struck the building directly, conducted safely to earth, but it was such a massive explosion I thought a bomb had give off. She was 88 and clapping the weather gods with raucous applause.
I see from my app a lot of lightning from this storm was cloud to cloud. A lot of tropical lightning is such, at our latitudes we are more prone (in our much much lesser frequency than tropical storms) to occasions of positive lightning when storms strike.
Temperatures down tomorrow on today just getting up to about 16C or so and lower Dp's but colder uppers in place also , troughs transiting the country in the afternoon might give some thunderstorms, less Deep layer Shear than today so more pulse like storms if they get enough energy to form, KO Index lower tomorrow but still giving a chance. LLS and Orographic lift coming into play. Should have some broken cloud and clearer spells to aid convection giving some locally heavy showers. Again best chance of a storm in the Eastern half of the country in the afternoon but might get a few along the S and SE coasts too where there could be subtle convergence. Fine convergence along the East coast might just kick up a good storm again late afternoon perhaps.
The RTÉ 9 O'Clock News has reports affected be the Dublin thunderstorm this evening.
Also a rumble of thunder during Marty Morrisey's “live” report on a GAA Go story on the same bulletin.
Selfie of the thunderstorm at Howth Summit this evening and a CG strike over the sea.
I see my video was already posted by @Meteorite58, thank you very much!
Here are two photos I got from today!
Your a brave man to be up o on a height on open ground during a thunderstorm sryan ⚡️⚡️💥😁
Love it 😀 😍
How's tomorrow shaping up?
Could there be some sparks in other regions, say, like... Cork? 😅
Brilliant! 👍⚡🤯
You're a brave man Sryan. Lucky you hadn't a golf club in your hand or you could've had youself a Fr Stone moment 😄
Seen this earlier, there was alot of fork lightning going by videos
I live just down the road from this house and was looking out the window when it happened. That lightning strike was so powerful and so unbelievably loud, I actually thought it had hit our house, because everything in our house just suddenly exploded. It destroyed my gaming router and blew all the fuses in the house. Thank god for surge protectors on the PC, TV and appliances. It was pretty scary. Never experienced anything like it in over 40 years.
That's crazy to be honest I can onlyfans imagine what the thunder was like
Pouring in Tralee. Plenty of showers crossing the country, fair chance if a few Thunderstorms but maybe not as potent as yesterday, probably more scattered than yesterday, interested to see will the East get activity in the afternoon, maybe late or early evening with that pronounced area of convergence.
I think your saved autocomplete might have kicked in there 😁
Heaviest rain all year I would say in the last 10 mins here in Tralee, water flowing down the roads.
Your auto spell/correct has exposed you there 🤣
