ESB Networks account shows import and export. Although, only when the mobile network is operating. There are dropouts whereupon ESB makes a guess as to what you used and what you exported.
Just recently had my system installed and install company are processing the paperwork and NC6 (I assume). I have a smart meter installed and I'm wondering if my export to ESB Networks will show up on their Smart Meter Data page on the website? Or does it only show consumption?
EI billed me for March/May.. 106 euro FIT for the two months.. bill 85 euro for two months.. March wouldn't have been awesome for export.. but i can see my bills being pretty low for next 4 months.

You also need devices that have "press to make" switches that are in the on position so that they switch on when the smart switch activates. One of our dehumidifiers and the washing machine have touch sensitive switches so they need a hominid to physical switch them on at the allotted time.
You can get washing machines with a timer but they are too fancy for our low pressure well-water home. We tried an A rated one a few months ago but it had to go back because of the water pressure. Now, we have an E rated (but the electricity is free anyway) machine but it still has a touch sensitive start button and no timer.
I’ve an EV and only mange to self consume 50%, so you won’t get 50% without a battery unless….you do as others say here and run devices when sun shines. You can get a smart plug for €10 each and set the washing machine to come on at (say) 11am, then 2 hours later for the dishwasher. You don’t need to be there. But you need to have them loaded before you leave the house, which could be the night before.
It’s hard to not let it take over at the start, or so I found anyway. Then I realised it’s a 25 year ‘long game’ so I don’t micro manage it now. It’s reducing our bills and carbon footprint, which were our goals.
In time you can get automation in Home Assist if your're into that sort of stuff. And run devices when there is excess.

Yeah I was getting around 50-60% average without the battery but it's a lot of work. You really need to have the washing machine and dishwasher ready to go and start them when the sun is shining
Using 50% of your generation without a battery is a lofty goal. It is achievable but only with a drastic change of habits.
Can you commit to using leccy only when the sun shines? Need to work from home and be very rigid with times of use. If you could Add a night rate meter and shift majority of washing drying dishwashing to nighttime will help balance the shady days and get you closer to goal.
You can have 2 names on the electric account to double the exemption to €400 afaik, so if you have another earner in the house put their name on the account.
Thanks for the tips there. Didn't realise there is effectively a tax on generating too much! Sounds like we would just be on the limit then, assuming my 50% immediate consumption turned out to be true. Is the excess taxed at your marginal income tax rate?
Also, if we sell 2000kWh but buyback 2000kWh, is this not netted off first for tax purposes?
You missed a few zeros on your annual consumption and generation, I'm guessing you're consuming 4,000kWh per year and aiming to generate 4,000kWh per year (from around a 4kWp system I'm guessing?) and self use around 50% without a battery
If that's all the case then your numbers check out, assuming you've a smart meter and are getting metered export
On a side note, make sure there's two names on the electricity account. You get up to €200 tax free per named person on the account, so two names give you €400 tax free allowance
As mentioned previously, about to get Solar Panels installed with no a battery.
Just wondering if my estimated annual savings are about right? I’m assuming a sell rate to the electricity company of 20c per unit and a buy rate of 40c per unit and ignoring standing charges.
If we didn’t have solar and use 4kWh of electricity pa then we buy 40c x 4000 = €1,600.
If we get a 4kWh system installed, at worst we export all our generated electricity and gain 20c per kWh = 4000 x 0.2 = €800 and buy it all back at the full price. Our new annual bill is therefore €1600 - €800 = €800.
However, let us assume we can use half of all generated electricity immediately ourselves.
So we now sell 2kWh and buy it back when we need it. Our net annual bill is now €400.
So approximate annual savings are 75%? Obviously is we add in fixed standing charges, the % savings are a bit less than this.
Does this seem about right? Obviously, the big assumption is how much of the generated electricity you can use immediately.
oh I'd love if someone would try it. Sure isn't the export a plan also? existing customer should call and ask for that export rate.

Yeah I think there were a few folks who had similar issues with export getting estimated, seems they lived in areas of spotty phone signal
Makes you wonder how smart these meters really are, you'd think they'd have some onboard caching and could upload a load of data when they re-establish connection to the servers
Hi all.
Just wondering if anyone is having the same issue as me with their escort measurement. I'm with Bord Gais, and when I download the Excel file to see what I've exported daily, only 2 days out of the past 14 are actual. The others are all deemed export. Bord Gais today tell me that it's common enough, and that it's down to ESB not getting a reading on the night for that day of export.
Is this right, and are others seeing a similar issue?
Btw, I signed up for that Flogas BWG tariff. It's like healthcare plans AFAIK. They have to allow anyone use a plan that is avaialble. They just don't readily show people all the plans available.
Interesting, I'd absolutely love if SSE and "the others" got in trouble for it.
It's dodgy as hell. SSE are part owners of the installer so they're offering special rates if people use an installer who they have a vested interest in.

When it was initially installed the builder most likely would have submitted an NC6 form to ESN networks, letting them know that you have panels so that they would know to expect electricity flowing from your house. ESB networks then in turn would notify your supplier that your a micro-gen site. You shouldn't have to notify anyone, assuming that the NC6 form is gone in years ago.
Yeah, those small panel systems are generally to be BER rating compliant. To be fair, the first 4-5 panels are the panels which help the most. Sure more panels help more (I've 23 - LOL), but it's those first 4-6 panels which make your house as self-sufficient "bang for buck"
Just 3, but I'm not sure about their capacity. People say builders just install these to be compliant with regulations to get the "A" rating for new builds. I was just surprised I got a letter that calls me a supplier when I never intended to feed back into the grid and never subscribed for it.
On closer inspection I definitely didn’t consume 6 day and 6 night units. It’s very suspicious that they are both 6. At least according to my data; but I have no way of proving that it’s accurate.
according to me it’s 1.8 day and 2.4 night. But the boost matches almost exactly (141.38 on my side Vs 142 from EI)
I suspect that the day and night might be poorly calculated by the CT clamp due to the very low (balancing) import that is happening. And for my own sanity not worth a phone call with EI. Let’s see if I can make 50 euro this month. I’m gonna need it all come Nov -Jan.
Also, if it is the first payment that you have ever received, it may be backdated. How many panels do you have?
It was probably a deemed export payment then. It's supposed to cover unused power you exported to the grid.
