    Hi,

Need to put up some basic shelfs in an back shed - it enclosed but sbject to very hot (glass roof) and very cold cycles. Ideally looking for something cheap and cheerful. So far all I can see is the actual shelf boards in woodies, sheets of mdf at B&Q - is there any better maybe cheaper alternatives and where to source them?

Buy some shelf brackets, lengths of timber to suit, a saw and make your own :)

I would, but sourcing timber than is thin ish and wide is not cheap, at least where I have looked.

Depends on your brackets and what width they'll accommodate. You can double up narrower planks - say 2 of 5" x 1" or whatever fits. Just have two lengths side by side. Otherwise plywood probably best for you but usually bigger sheets and harder to cut to size.

You can buy 8x1 timber handy enough and a few cheap brackets.

Instead of shelves what about a rack system with many choices of material. Mdf sags i found out later.

Any specific size and weight to be loaded onto shelf.

Try the likes of Adverts , Gumtree , DoneDeal and Fb market place as might find something to suit you.

    Can be pricey.

Sometime you see shop clearances where they're selling shelving. If you can get it cheap then you're set for life

No not really as sold one a month or 2 for 40 euro as no longer needed and needed the space.
