If Trump was playing a character, he was playing the divisive dickhead, who wasn't even willing to stand behind his inflammatory rhetoric when it counted because he wanted to save his own skin. He has allegiance to one thing and one thing alone and that is himself. Even if we accept your premise that all presidents and hopefuls are narcissists, Trump is that plus a whole lot of other profoundly negative qualities, making him less fit to serve than anyone before, and likely anyone in the future.
