Eileen needs a reality check. She needs to ask herself why the taxi driver was afraid to drive into a halting site. Why was he afraid Eileen? Instead of asking herself this question she screams discrimination.

What on Earth is this guff.
Halting sites are frequently dangerous. That's the end of the analysis.
Wtaf
All about risk analysis.
The moment we start our day we expose ourselves to risks. Some actions more riskier than others.
If I plan a local drive, I plan with as few crossings of roads as possible, hence left turns etc. Small things.
The taxi driver deemed the risk outweighed the reward for driving in to the site.
A few metres drive to deliver an able bodied individual, versus a perceived increased risk of something crap happening, which could jeopardize their livelihood.
Now, I say perceived, as this is likely the fault of the media for instilling that perception into us.
Too much reporting of travellers stealing, fighting, scamming the weak and elderly, extortion and making (sometimes dubious) insurance claims.
Dont blame taxi driver one little bit.
The Travellers are shooting themselves in the foot by always shouting racism. They would get a lot further in life if they just tried to be civilized and live like the rest of us. No one will ever have any respect for them if they keep playing the victim.
It should be tariff 10 on the taxi meter for driving into a halting site.
The Guards are slow to drive in to halting sites.
A taxi driver would be a fool to.
On what basis did this anecdote arise in our Upper House?
Are Senators allowed to just waffle off any rubbish they want? I did vote for it to be abolished back a few years ago.
Should taxi drivers receive extra support and protection for fares into Halting Sites?
Is this what Eileen wants?
Grab a dictionary.
Look up ethnicity, race and nationality. Note the difference.
But how would you decide on such a representative?
They're described as a different ethnic group because of customs, language - that kind of thing.
But they aren't a different "race", that's for sure.
But over the past decade or so, we've seen a movement where minorities are empowered to believe they are actually victims - not just victims, but very special people indeed. That gives people power, especially when more people believe it.
And we're seeing that power exercised, especially in cases such as now.
It's all a game of power, and the far-left are getting their way - slowly, but surely - by trying to reshape debate in this country. Part of that involves redefining the Travelling Community as a separate race. It's not the only game they're playing, but it's a part of it.
They've so far succeeded. In the long term, they'll fail.
Yea. Why are they being described as a different race??
I think the travelling community needs a political representative who is a leader not just a spokesperson. And being a leader means bringing your followers on a journey of change. Leading them to a better place. In this case challenging the simplistic narrative that the helpless travelling community are victims of the racist settled community and cannot change anything for the better themselves. Eileen has failed to provide this much needed leadership.
Their family tree.....
You've some reading to catch up on. They are an ethnic minority.
That is one of the great mysteries of Irish political life - first in how crazy was the idea to give the public a chance to get rid of a bunch of wafflers. We had an open goal to do so and yet fecked it up and missed from three feet.
A friend of mine is a retired station captain of a Dublin City Fire Station, he told me himself under no circumstances will they enter a halting site without the Gardai assisting first.
This is a direct consequence of a phenomenon over the past decade where minorities are told they are both special and victims at the same time - when they are neither.
They're white Irish people. What is this ethnic minority?
Yeah, but the people of jobstown aren't an ethnic minority. It was the biggest mistake ever made by any government giving them that stick .
With rights come responsibilities but everyone is afraid to tell them that.
Intersectionality “innit”
ive been in and out of halting sites loads of times too , including labra park , and many many things have happened.
she should be prosecuted for misuse of the 999 system if she called that number to try to enforce her nonsense on a sensible working person.
Because victimhood status has real currency and absolutely will not be surrendered
The lone taxi driver, or even the lone barman in a small town pub, have nothing to fear from the travelling community.
All those stories you hear are lies ...
So the taxi driver took the fare and wanted to drop her outside the halting site. i.e. not enter the gated community.
She then refused to pay, he said he was calling the guards then she called the guards and the operator told her she was wasting their time.
She accused him 4 times of committing a crime in the Seanad after been told by the operator there was no crime being committed. She also told the operator that she wouldn't let "any harm come to him". That's a pretty weird thing to say and probably justifies him dropping her at the gate.
Not an ideal situation all round, but there is 2 sides to every story, maybe as a public representative why didn't she ask him why? Have a conversation about it, instead of branding him a racist criminal to the nation.
Taxi Drivers have a tough job as it is and there is a reason a lot of them now seldom work past dark.
He could be a dick, he also could well be just looking out for himself based on past experiences which every person in this country are entitled to do without be labelled criminal racists.
I read that story and I disagree with the taxi driver on one thing.....
.....i still wouldnt have driven her to that halting site after the garda were contacted....
It's no coincidence that senator Flynn has chosen to highlight this issue now on the first day of a high profile abuse case involving members of her community. Deflection at it's finest.
RTE news : Woman tells court she was raped by grandfather twice
I wonder who turned this piece of land adjacent to a halting site into a giant dump. And nobody will go clear it, why would they.

I think that is the apt comparison.
There is significant discrimination against the travelling community and this must be called out when it happens. This is not an example of it, and doesn't do the just cause of the travelling community any good.
