Finally other car manufacturers are making noises about responding to Tesla price cuts https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/renault-brand-sales-bounce-back-q1-up-9-2023-04-17/
French carmaker Renault (RENA.PA) is reviewing its pricing policies of electric cars worldwide to ensure it stays competitive after a wave of price cuts by U.S. rival Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), a top executive said on Monday.
Yeah the Id.4 and the enyaq have decent boots. Probably better shape than the model y but I haven’t seen the latter in person.
Don't think either of the VAg have a frunk or only a small one. All the stuff on the cabin floor in the ID4 would fit in the Model Y frunk. Very handy extra space for long trips.
All 3 mentioned have lovely backsides for storage 😁
I know this is the US but it looks like the price war is hotting up over there.

Not surprising
Low hanging fruit getting smaller in that country, EV's are suitable for small banana republic countries like ourselves alright, but countries that have cheap fuel and large distances that like to go on vacations, they are not really appealing.
The USA are very far behind us in terms of EV adoption... They have only recently started standardising their charge ports and Tesla there are refusing to add CCS to their cars
To be fair, in the US I'd say the only EV worth considering for long distances is Tesla. Closest rival for charging is Electrify America and there's still big gaps in their network as well as many reports of issues
So if Tesla have inventory building up then it's a concern. I still think it's not as big a deal as some analysts are saying, seen full lots of just about every other brand at some point and yet they're still around
But they will need to shift them, so if I was in the US I'd be expecting a few more price cuts
I'll raise you all that, 6 man inflatable tent, inflatable mattresses and bedding X4 (2 kids under 5), camping table and gazebo in an ioniq 5. I was able to use my rear view mirror too so could have squeezed a bit more.
Okay I think I'll have to accept defeat after that 😂
I cheated a bit with vacuum pack bags 😜
How did you vacuum pack on the way back? Or did you bring that too?
Hand pump or small battery vacuum
The game changer IMHO will be Tesla Model 2. Tesla will have covered 3 segments with that (3,Y,2).
On Toyota - they're just betting on a wrong horse and also part of the failed and stubbornly rigid Japanese government hydrogen policy. It's a total failure and even Japanese NGOs and experts have been criticising it heavily.
From the REI report (Japanese renewable energy NGO):
The government’s strategy neglects green hydrogen and prioritizes fossil fuel-derived gray and blue hydrogen. It neglects the development of renewable energy sources, reflecting the government’s skewed energy strategy that has set low targets for the deployment of renewables for both 2030 and 2050.
Total failure and so is Toyoda Toyota. I wouldn't trust anything Japanese e.g. EVs in terms of direction, they're clearly betting on wrong horses repeatedly.
Nissan is better because of association with Renault.
Free charger and 1k discount from Renault dealer https://www.menapiamotors.com/new-renault/megane/ Not much but a good start.
i was told VAG prices are going up again in July. By 3%. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they were actually talking about the grant and taking me for stupid. .
Heard that as well, and sadly no, it's independent of the grant. Hyundai moving in same direction also.
So much for the ev price war.
Madness, yet people will pay it and they'll still top the ev sales charts next year. Just increase the GMFV and people think they're getting a bargain, I've said it before but this VW PCP strategy in Ireland is a house of cards waiting to collapse..
You can always walk away from a VW PCP but I agree that it is a bit of a hamster wheel. Tesla owners could end up worse off if Musk keeps cutting prices and ends up with cliff face residuals and rubbish customer service.
Is Musk likely to keep cutting prices here?
Nobody knows but Tesla appear to have a growing inventory problem. Building cars faster than they can find buyers for them. Only short term solution is to cut prices unless they cut production. This is unlikely given they have just ramped it up with new factories. Putting the unsold stock in storage would kill cashflow.
That sounds logical, I guess it is just a question of when so.
Only trouble is Tesla can often be unpredictable so who knows. It might be prudent to have one on order for the sake of €250 that you can get back anyway. If prices do drop, you might have a better chance of getting the model you want.
Is there really an inventory problem? Is it it not just a function of higher volume of sales? I.e. Make more cars.. have more inventory on hand. I think the last update was 15 days inventory on hand vs 56 days industry standard. It's like how people scream about national debt going up every year when in actual fact it's reducing as a % of GDP.
Only if they don't buy another Tesla, cost of change would be the same if not lower as depreciation hasn't matched the price drops at a 1 to 1 ratio thus far. Their margins are so high in comparison to the competition they have plenty of scope for this. It's good to keep the pressure on other manufacturers to reduce their prices. A win win for everyone, unless people want to keep paying higher and higher prices of course.
Reinforces the auld maxim 'once you've had [Tesla] you'll never go back
Trying to figure out the logic of 24kW, 30kW and 40 kW Nissan Leafs from same year/similar mileage being priced the same, are dealers chancing their arm or unaware of how to price? Also what do we think about the impact of the likes of MG4 EV for circa €30K with 350km range on the glut of 30kw and 40 kw second hand Leafs on the market? Are 2nd hand Nissan Leafs in for a price drop ?
Chancing I'd say, the current pricing strategy with second hand EVs at the moment is to look up the price when it was new and add 10%
How the MG4 affects the market is really dependent on how many they manage to shift. So far I've seen two compared to the 20-30 ID.4s and Model 3s I see every day
So if MG sell 100 per year then nobody is going to care about them, if they're selling a few thousand then they'll have an effect
see on the MG 4 thread, they reckon Linders have 300 MG4s coming in over coming weeks not sure how true that is but be interesting to see whats being traded in for those.
How do some people work out Tesla have an inventory problem?
There’s only the same one or 2 posters on here who constantly post that.
Go drive by VW North Dublin and you’ll see the empty fields full of cars. Up in Joe Duffy land. The whole plot between the M50, North Road and St. Margaret’s full to the brim with cars. And that’s only one dealer.
Is it not a good thing that dealers have stock available?
Theres no tesla inventory problem. I don't get where that is coming from.
