If being an unaligned country with a large army is no deterrent to Putin's ambitions is it time for ROI to join Nato?
It's fantasy world stuff in here
This has totally escaped you, but the only person banging on about "sneaking a naval force" anywhere is you. You're in conversation with yourself on this point, and you apparently think it's a banger of a point.
The comedy value of the whole thing is your addition of Captain Birdseye to our putative security mix.
Have you got a crystal ball predicting the next 20, 30, 50 years and what the security situation has in store for Europe? Let us know when you get your hands on one, I have a few buyers that might be interested.
Ok so you don't actually disagree with me.
The point stands, we would know well in advance of any major surface marine threat coming our way from Russia.
Its virtually impossible to move groups of ships around these days without being seen.
There's no real urgency in that regard.
Pearl harbor........
I'll repeat, the only person banging on about "sneaking a naval force" anywhere is you. No one put forward such a proposition, so I'm not sure who you're talking to when you're posting about that.
But anyway, perhaps put pen to paper to the Department of Defence and they'll give Operation Captain Birdseye their full attention.
1941
Yes, it is just me banging on about it.
And everything I'm saying is correct.
So ... whats the problem?
99% of what you've posted in this thread is either outright false, or displays a level of ignorance about international security and zero understanding around the constitutional and legislative matters both at domestic and EU level. All of it with a whiff of an odd dissident republican sympathising predisposition. And generously sprinkled with a reflixive anti-Americanism that was licked off the floor of an undergrad Marxist reading group meeting.
For the third time zero people in this thread have made any claim about "sneaking a naval force" anywhere. Not off the coast of Borneo, Madagascar or Ireland. You're talking to yourself, and you're telling yourself you're right. Talk into a dictaphone the next time you want to tapdance on this matter.
The Falklands
Probably true but even so what could our defence forces do to stop them even with some warning. Even then the attitude from many would be 'it won't happen' 'they're going to X instead' 'the Americans wouldn't let it happen' etc.
Whats wrong with clearing up a misconception some may have.
All I said was its virtually impossible to move some sort of maritime invasion force around these days without being noticed.
Everything I've posted in this thread is true.
You're just salty because I'm right, and you don't like it.
Argentina was hardly surprised.
No it's not,
How big is the Atlantic alone, ships like aircraft can turn off their transponders which makes tracking all but impossible
Every one of your posts has been utterly sandblasted in this thread. From your ignorance of the Budapest memorandum, your ignorance of the EU legal position of mutual aid, the Irish constituion on several matters, the fact that you think there's a credible European security architecture with Turkey outside the door, that you think neutral European states have never experienced Islamic terror attacks - and that's just the ones I'm remembering. You're like Sideshow Bob stepping on rakes.
You've declared yourself some sort of champ - but it rather looks like this...
Aviation and satellites will still spot you. As will sonar sensors. And communications signals will be detected.

Granted every one of these dots in the above is super micro tiny relative to the size to the map, but still each one cuts down the odds, all moving at different speeds with no predictable path, good luck picking out a path through.
Theres virtually no hiding a bunch of ships on a long voyage these days.
US has something like 230 military satellite. EU countries about 30 iirc.
Then theres all the hundreds of commercial ones. And the closer you get to shore the more intense it gets.
If you say so.
I still stand by everything I can remember saying in the thread. My facts over your feels will always win.
Only if people are actually looking for them, and even then it's still very much difficult to find a needle in a vast ocean,
All those boats on your app turn off their transponders and you have a blank screen,
Maybe find a hobby
Read his post. He said aircraft. You're still banging on about "sneaking a naval force".
He said "ships like aircraft"
🤣
Yes ships like aircraft very much. They've been seeing each other for quite a while now, ships should really put a ring aircraft's finger.
This is like an episode of Twin Peaks
Thats a strange post. What do you mean?
Operation Spring of Youth.
Israeli Special Forces in and out of Beirut via sea - waxed dozens of PLO leaders and operatives in one night before the Lebanese knew what was happening.
Row-able rubber boats 100km up a shoreline in 1973. Things have moved on in 50 years.
waxed. 🙄 yuck.
Tell that to the UK
IR based night vision would have been just about making its entrance in the 70's. Doubt Lebanon had much of it available in 1973. Today satellites can spot heat signals from orbit, and its relatively cheap and accessible to many, I'd dare say even to the public.
Russias ships are extremely unlikely to pop up unexpectedly anywhere. Too much traffic on the seas, too many satellites. And too many agencies (and nerds) watching Russian military vessels locations.
Every major military is capable of submarine borne small-boat special forces raids and excercise the same regularly.
They've been conducted since at least the 1940s, probably before.
You know not about which you talk. Good luck with Captain Birdseye stopping one of those.
Yes, they got waxed as they ate, slept and shat.
Whatever you think of the Israeli / Palestinian conflict, PLO commanders were legitimate targets. Those men lived by the sword, and most certainly died by it.
I'll be sparing my tears for someone else.
There you go.
We should join nato because Russians may launch inflatable boat raids from submarines off our coast.
You wanted examples of "sneaky sneaky" as you're obsessed with it and you thought you had a bazinga point to tapdance on.
There you have it, every military of scale with subs are perfectly capable of it, and have been since at least the 40s.
If they wanted, a marine detachment from any capable country could land in Ireland as the tip-of-the-spear in a decapitation operation, and have the barrell of a rifle pressed against the temple of anyone they damn please.
You know not of what you post about.
