I hope the EU comes down hard on Auto makers for the right to repair once warranties of these EVs expire. It will hopefully enable indy mechanics to specialise in EVs and repairs should be cheaper than the main dealer route.
I'll see maybe this week. I didn't get the update on my car and now it's in service. Should have it back in a few days apparently.
Something hit my 2022 Model 3 windscreen above the camera module and the screen has a substantial crack in it. I’m no expert but I’ll be amazed if it’s repairable. So my questions are…
I had a similar issue with the rear window.
Tried Tesla and Autoglass. The strange thing was, Tesla said they'd set up an appointment but that Autoglass would probably get the part quicker. Tesla advised to keep both routes open and if you had to cancel the Tesla appointment because Autoglass got the part, that'd be OK that Tesla would find the use for it.
Was waiting a couple of weeks for the part, but it was a 2-3 hour / 2 person job when they got it. (it was done under windscreen cover with insurance)
Thanks for the reply. Any idea what the total cost was? My insurance only offers €400 and I have a feeling that won’t get close.
I also turned them off straight away
Did the update on Thursday, the bongs lasted until today….. by yesterday they were already grating…
For the rear window it was about €250. The front window might be more, with the camera sensors, etc.
they'll have the faulty inverter parts replaced early next week
It sounds like it’s not the motor but just the connected inverter, which is just electronics?
When you say they might replace the drive unit, they are unlikely to be replacing everything. Could just be a simple circuit board they are replacing.
I wouldn’t be too worried about the warranty unless it becomes a general problem with the cars. You’ll get the new inverter and you’ll still have 7+ years of drivetrain warranty.
Full wash and wax today, the MSM hides the dirt well but prefer it clean, if I had any other colour I'd have the rims but the grey suits the aeros IMHO
Looks great. I also think MSM is the colour scheme that most benefits from the chrome delete change along with white and maybe red. In blue it feels a bit like a black shirt on blue denims, and black on black while still great, needs some contrast.
I "chrome" deleted the emblems and darked the lights too, tinted tears also, prefer it like that
Looks great. What did you use to tint the rears ? Are the rear lights still effective/road legal ?
I got them from Ali Express, when I was getting the window tints tested by engineer (for insurance purposes) he tested front and rear lights, I don't know the result but he said they were fine.
Can anyone recommend an insurance company?
I'm up for renewal next month, Supervalu is offering €487.86 fully comp which I think is pretty good.
AXA were decent with me the last 2 years.
Supervalu are underwritten by AXA their quote was more or less the same.
Every day's a school day!!
Got a good rate with 123.ie
It will vary from one to the next depending on your profile and a whole other load of BS.
I was with 123 for years, but since I got the Model 3 they've consistently been ~200 more than Supervalu for whatever made-up reason.
€347 renewal with Liberty. But had to get manager approval when I changed over. Don’t think their website will quote you with a Tesla. Might need to ring them.
Do most in here clean\wax their cars themselves or do you bring it to a professional cleaner\detailer?
I am not over fussy with my cars, but like to keep them looking good. I hand wash reasonably carefully, then dry. About two or three times a year I use Collinite 845 wax. I never use a machine wash. To the eye my paint looks good.
I now have the prices for replacing the M3 windscreen and it is interesting. Allglass (the insurance company’s nominated supplier) quoted me €1400 for their generic glass and €980 for Tesla glass. Earliest available appointment is approximately 3 weeks away so less than ideal. Tesla quoted €715 for the job and gave me an appointment in 48 hours. My insurance (RSA) pays €400 towards replacement by Allglass and €225 if done by a third party. Tesla is still the cheaper net option to me even with the reduced insurance contribution which is a pleasant surprise.
I'd go with Tesla especially if under warranty as less hassle if there are issues afterwards
Wow. That's definitely a higher price for the front glass.
Looking back, the quote Tesla gave me for the rear glass was €500 (give or take), AXA said they'd pay the full amount if I went with an approved supplier (Tesla or Allglass).
In the end I went with Allglass, but they got the official part from Tesla.
When I look at my insurance renewal, it just shows the amount was settled for €250.
This is good info for us with a M3, deffo worth looking at glass replacement clauses, worth going for full cost coverage by the sounds of things
On the Model 3 there are three major panes of glass, windscreen, back screen and a middle pane at the centre on top. Tesla said that sometimes insurance can get picky about covering that third one under windscreen cover, but the other two are usually covered (as long as you have windscreen cover) without any hassle.
My next policy will be chosen with this in mind for sure. It’s the first time I’ve had this happen but now I’ll have to shell out way more than I saved going with RSA. That’s the trouble with insurance - it’s hard to take it seriously until you need it.
On a side point the quote from Tesla includes “Install O-ring on trunk power strut” priced at €0. Presumably this is being done to all cars they handle but I hadn’t heard about it before.
