New Munster chat thread folks. warning deserved there. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=109477571#post109477571
Some unacceptable remarks were deleted from this thread, and a forum ban has been issued. Posts that quoted the offending post were also removed, in case anyone is wondering where their post went.
There are some strange selections there, Sheehan and Ronan O’Sullivan ahead of Gleeson and Okeke? Kiely, Oji and Costello ahead of Condon?
Dan Sheahan is starting ...
I edited that within a few seconds!
I think some of this might be just resting some guys or small injuries. I doubt those guys are ahead of gleeson or Quinn.
Known for a few weeks but announced today
I disagree. Sean Fitzpatrick was one of the greatest sledgers/shite-talkers in the history of the game and he played in Galway's era. Probably played against him in 92 and 93. Got a few snacks in his time and one grubby Bokke even tried to eat his ear. Never shut him up. I reckon POM would have loved that era.
Look to be clear , i have no probs with sledging as i think it can be humourous and definitely a skill in winding opponents.
I dont feel comfortable with supporting pom brand of sledging or whatever it might be called. He has plenty history of cheap shots and foul abusive language , springs to mind calling kyle Synkler a stupid c#nt a few times , picked up on tv mics. More like that if you want to check online.
Maybe im being over sensitive , but in my opinion this behaviour is not ok.
Can you post a few examples of the cheap shots?
Well who could forget him single handedly destroying our chances of winning the 6N in 2021?

That’s his solitary red card in his 90+ Ireland caps.
I think he mistimed it, and their prop’s head got turned late. (I think he’s initially aiming for Tipuric).
I don’t think that makes him a thug or makes that a cheap shot.
The poster said cheap shots such as calling Sinckler a name, not cheap shot physically, read the post before trolling with incidents from years ago. Would have thought there’d be enough positive things to post on the other threads without the need for this negativity on the Munster thread.
The red card was stupid but 99.9% of the time, POM knows exactly where the line is between getting under his opponents' skin and getting his own team in trouble. There's no one better at it IMO.
Oxygen lads, oxygen.
I am not really a fan of his sledging either. I know every team does it but I thought this in particular was a bit below the belt.
However, he is not a dirty player. His lineout work his immense as is his leadership and he is a vital cog in the Irish team.
That's not a cheap shot. That's a mistimed tackle, resulting in a warranted red card. But it's not a cheap shot.
Yep, you’d want to be fairly cockeyed to see that as malicious. Just poorly timed. If that’s malicious, James Ryan must be an absolute thug.
I'm a New Zealander and I think that's one of the all time great sledges. Up there with Gregan's (bastard!!) one in the 2003 RWC semi final.
Gregan's was elite.
Mod: No back-seat modding, lads.
Seems like Ben O’ Connor might be choosing rugby. He’s supposed to be a pretty high level prospect in hurling so would be a good get.
Bit of a mixed bag in the squad update. Awful news about Patterson.
Paddy Patterson has started his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery on an ACL injury suffered on Munster’s tour to South Africa last month.
Liam O’Connor underwent successful surgery on his neck injury and will undergo rehabilitation with the medical department.
Keith Earls underwent an MRI and has started rehabilitation with the medical department for a groin injury sustained against Sharks.
RG Snyman has completed the return to play protocols and returned to team training.
The following players all return to team training this week: Tadhg Beirne (ankle), Chris Moore (neck), Roman Salanoa (neck) and Niall Scannell (shoulder).
Shock on Patterson, and shame to see Earls hurt again (may end up finishing his Munster career on the 200 number?), but great news to see Beirne back in training.
Maybe I'm being naive, and slow to recognise the Scottish rejuvenation, but I cannot see Munster losing this game, even in Scotstoun. Glasgow distracted by competing on two fronts, and maybe a little overconfident after their win in Thomond IMO, whereas Munster will be gunning for this game.
You'd imagine that this weekend comes a bit too soon for Beirne , hard to see him being involved if he's only back training with the squad this week.
Beirne being back is brilliant but I think it's a week too soon for him so hopefully we get the win next Saturday. Awful news on Earls, you kind of knew it was back news when you saw how he left the field of play.
Patterson isn't a huge loss as we still have Murray & Casey and he was always 3rd choice so getting injured now isn't the worst thing from a Munster pov.
but I cannot see Munster losing this game, even in Scotstoun
It’s a scratch game at the moment. I think Munster are the most likely of all the away QF’ists to win but it’s a horrible place to go.
A SF appearance would be a good outcome for Munster in what’s been a transition season tho.
The Patterson injury is a big negative though from an RWC perspective, as Casey & Murray will be gone.
Some of the recent Leinster guys who had ACLs like Tommy O'Brien missed pretty much 12 months with it. He did his just after the SA tour last year and only made his return for this year's tour. Similarly, Jack Daly is still injured from his one at the end of last season v Leinster.
Will leave you very short on senior scrum halves come RWC time.
So we have a few months to pick an Alby Mathewson type cover for the RWC as opposed to looking for someone now to compete in the knockout games at the end of a season..
Yeah, I guess, but still describing it as "not a huge loss" and "not the worst thing from a Munster POV" to me is still a bit strange, given the potential impacts on his development and the fact that they will now need to spend money on a replacement in all likelihood.
I get it's not as impactful this season as some other injuries might have been, but an ACL for a player as pacey as he was is still terrible news.
A 3rd choice player picking up a long term injury at the end of a season when you have cover isn't the end of the world for the team, especially, when they have time on their hand to get cover for next season.
Now if it happened at the beginning of the season or mid season then it might be a bigger impact.
I really can't see what the issue is here.
