That's exactly what I find about him too. Great little cows with heaps of milk.
Good fertility and their calves sell well
Claragh Neymar heifer (LM5413). Plenty of muscle. I've a feeling she could be Myostatin Q204X/Q204X.
Great calf Patsy. If she is a 2 x Q, would you keep her for breeding? Would lack of milk/fertility be an issue with such a myostatin?
I don't know, to be honest. Neymar is F94L/Q204X and the calf's mother already bred a F94L/Q204X from Ampertaine Commander. I don't know the myostatin status of commander. The UK Limousin site don't have it listed. I would have thought commander was F94L/F94L so I'm suspecting that the mother is F94L/Q204X.
I don't know what to think. I was at the Limousin Premier sale last Monday and a bull Meenross Snowman was sold to an AI company (I think) He was listed as Q204X/Q204X. Plenty of muscle, yet 3 stars for milk and 4 stars for fertility.
Ya that’s interesting. A lot of Ai companies are buying these 2 x Q bulls. Elite pedigree bought 1 last week, they already have gerrygullinane Phoniex. I think I’d be trying to avoid these bulls for fear of hard calving and lack of maternal traits. Is it just for the show lads, crossed with blue cows and side door job then?
Where did the Meenross bull go to?
Lets just say I saw someone from a well known AI company bidding on him. I think he got him, but not sure. The report should be up on the Limousin site soon.
I've a PD Neymar 1st calver that i purchased in, Her dam is by Foreman. She's fairly muscled but a serious mother for a heifer and great bag of milk. Calved herself too and extremely docile. Shes had a heifer calf but need to genotype to see what her sire is (Dovea 3 bull straw). I plan on getting few straws of Neymar for next year.
If you genotype a registered PD animal now dont you get the myostatin results?
Yes that’s right. I’m in the genomic scheme where every newborn is parentage verified before they allow you to register the calf. So all calves born here are genotyped at birth. You can search on Icbf then for the myostatin under the genomics tab
What are peoples thoughts on Curaheen Earp, would he be too strong for maiden heifers calving around 30 mts
Might get away with sexed. Wouldn’t want a bull anyway
Serious bull, if there’s a better all round Simmental bull about i’d like to see him but i wouldn’t be putting him on heifers like that unless you want to be putting the jack on them, he was put on a CHX heifer calving near 3yr old here by mistake, had a heifer calf and it was a struggle, should really have been a section, maybe limx heifers would bring a finer calf but i wouldn’t do it.
Fifty Cent would be a better option if you really want to use a Sim but if they were mine they’d be getting Knottown Roy, a great bull for heifers.
Yeah they are Lim x and good size off cows with good calving ability.I tried 50 cent and found them to be very compact and short.Have a nice Knottstown Roy heifer here from a blue x 1st calver and she calved at 24 mts no bother.
i wouldn’t use anything other than eby or ivor on heifers tbh
Had a couple off them last year off blue x heifers and not overly impressed tbh
I've a couple of high index suckler bred heifers that I am going to AI and I would like as many heifers as possible from them. What is the best bull available in sexed female semen to produce replacements? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
What breed are your heifer? Are you calving them at 24 mths?
The Saler Sligo Valentino from Bova would be worth trying, haven’t used him.
Montesqieu from Dovea is another Saler. Dovea have LM 2014 also.
They’ll be calving between 28 and 32 months old and are as follows:
Pedigree Lim by French imported stock bull (he’s Henzo x Vatour cow) ex Bavardage cow
Knottown Roy ex Ped Charolais cow (by Tombapik from Skidoo herd cow)
CWI heifer ex Sim cross cow
Gamin heifer ex Charolais cow
LM2014 heifer ex 3/4 Lim cow
Good suggestions 👍
Wouldn’t it be great if they could do Knottown Roy sexed!!!
IS4 was twice the bull Earl is
Anyone ever use Lisduff Red Pepper from Dovea?
Two Christmas born loyal bull calves from eby X British fr cows.
There’s a lad on twitter uses him a bit on sucklers heifers. Thinks he's very happy with him.
Yeah used a good bit of him the past 2 years. Can’t fault him. I’ll be using more straws of him
What blue bulls are lads using this year ?
That’s great, plan to try him this year. Do you put him on heifers or cows? Is he as easy calved as suggested in his figures?
I used him on a small blue shorthorn heifer. She threw a red whitehead bull but he seems shapely. Early days
How much are straws for him?
Red Pepper is around 10 ex vat
