There also isnt any other standout Dem candidate.
Nor is there a republican candidate who is running on any core conservative values, it's all anti woke bullsh!t, which is just there to normalise sexism racism homophobia or marginalisation of anyone who isn't a white male christian
Exactly , US Politics has become a battle between one side putting forward an agenda that you can agree or disagree with and the other side promising to protect you from the boogieman who's going to take your guns and turn your kids into transgender pedophiles who don't believe in God.
And to distract from the fact they have no real policies or ideas. Jacob Rees-Mogg had a guest on his GB News show this week who took him to task for the Tories doing the exact same thing; focusing on "anti-woke" policies and rhetoric to try distract from the failures of Brexit and the Tories not dealing with the cost of living crisis.
Likewise, the GOP have to focus on anti-woke rhetoric because they have no actual plan for dealing with the real issues facing the majority of Americans. The policies they want to enact will still be cutting social welfare and more trickle-down economics bullsh*t, and they have to try play down that, so they focus on being anti-woke and just general screaming and shouting about socialism and amendments and boogeymen.
Think Swalwell might be the next time around
I think anybody sensible will miss it this time around.
Stopping the other guy getting in has always been part of American politics though. Especially in the last 50 or so years. Unfortunately that's the way politics is set up over there, because it's Team A and Team B. And even if both teams are a mere shadow of themselves in most aspects, because they're both Neo-Liberal entities to varying degrees, they present a divisive veneer that allows voters to think they're getting something truly different, when there's really not that much to choose from.
Of course, you'll get the hot button topics being used as political footballs, like abortion and culture war horsecrap. But general issues, like their appalling healthcare situation will never really change.
I will qualify the above with the fact that Trump is a little bit of a game changer in that he's ready and willing to appeal to the absolute worst in American society which makes him a wild card. A wild card that's bound to make things worse wherever he goes. And that alone makes it worth voting for "old man" Biden. Because the other old man is an absolute bloody disaster.
5 hours oof
EJC trial underway and getting nasty
Well so much for Ron, lost his temper with a reporter who simply raised a rather predictable line of questioning he would get about an unearthed video where he defended force feeding gitmo detainees as a legal practice.
One survivor of torture at gitmo identified DeSantis as someone present and laughing during their force feeding
All but confirms he did it: his counter argument being how would they remember me from 2006 how would they recognize me I’m only one of 50 governors for 330 million people and I’m in the news constantly “it’s not like they would have seen my face and me every day for years in a military prison right?”
Not a good look in a general election but such antics would probably boost his standings in certain quarters...
Are you kidding? Force feeding a few Rag-heads? A true patriot. Like those hero tourists locked up for getting guided tours. That's true cos Tucker and our golden idol said so.
He’s having a shyte monday
and the motion was denied.
Trump and his lawyers are upset they cannot badger the witness about security camera footage or a lack thereof.
What a coincidence eh
Oh my god, you cracked the case!
No one with a couple of functioning brain cells would believe this, but then again we are talking about trump supporters, or desantis supporters depending on the day of the week
Seems totally legit.
Believe what exactly ?
The tweet posted is 100% fact.
Carroll told jurors that she loves “Law & Order” but said she doesn’t watch “SVU” because of how violent the spin-off is.
Hows the Gravy going btw.
Oh ffs CNN
And what I posted is also 100% fact, but why that is might not be obvious at first.
Fairness rules. They’d have to let him on for as long as they let any other candidate on. Like his infamaously bad SNL episode after Bernie (and Hillary iirc?) was invited to host.
Correlation doesn't equal causality. The homeopaths must love taking your money
I also have a Twitter account, if I post that you're a sodding idiot on that it is also 100% fact.
No they don't. The "Fairness doctrine" doesn't exist any more and never applied to cable channels anyway.
He was invited onto SNL because the producers thought it would be popular.
No it was a little bit more than what you’re recalling.
But you are right that it doesn’t necessarily apply to CNN
I have no issue with CNN doing a town hall with Trump. He is a leading GOP candidate and very likely to be the GOP candidate for the 2024 election. It is only right and proper that a media organisation such as CNN give airtime to him.
What they need to better, and failed to do in 2015, is actually hold him to account. Fact checks in real-time. Unlike 2015, when really Trump had no record on which to judge him. he was in office already for 4 years and as such has all that history to defend, or laud, depending on your political stance.
So when he talks about the wall, rather than argue about its merits or otherwise, simply ask why he didn't get the job done last time and what will be different if he was to win in 2024. Has he got a draft deal agreed with Mexico to pay?
What about Healthcare reform? Forget about whether Obamacare is right or not, is working or not. What is his actual plan? How will he fund it?
What does he admire so much about the likes of Putin, KJU etc? He has talked about solving the Ukraine war in a phone call, what would he actually propose? Has he already discussed this with Ukraine?
What will he do about gun violence? What about the homeless? But instead of vague talking points, talks about draining the swap and crooked Joe, they need to get to the policy. Stop treating him like a celebrity and deal with him as a politician.
If they actually try to hold Trump accountable, he'll throw his toys and storm off. And it won't even need to be tough questions. Just asking him for evidence to back up his claims or fact checking his statements. I wonder if Paddy Power is taking bets on how long he will last.
It definitely doesn't apply to CNN.
The rule for the broadcast channels is indeed stricter than I realised, but it also had nothing to do with why Trump was on SNL as explained in the article.
The only problem is, it's Trump. Even asking ChatGPT to answer those questions in the style of Trump would end up making more sense than the answers Trump is likely to give. You can't hold someone to account when they will never accept being accountable. You can't ask someone for a plan when they will never actually have a plan. All Trump would ever do when being questioned is shift blame, lie, go off on tangents, and obfuscate. And since it's CNN, you can be sure Trump is going to have every agreement in place that he can to make sure any such town hall or interview is in his favour. It'll be a host Trump approves of and it'll be an audience balance with plenty of Trump supporters who'll shout and holler after everything Trump says. CNN want Trump at least as much, if not more, than Trump needs to be on CNN.
I see far more benefits for Trump in such an arrangement than for CNN. And even though a media organisation should give interviews and airtime for a Presidential candidate, I worry that CNN aren't really going to do so in a way that they can hold him accountable as a media organisation should.
