Ukraine liberating all of its territories would definitely be a win. Even if this means that the war is not over (for that Putin needs to be removed).

when this war started the Ukrainian army more or less had duct tape, vise grips and wd40 and not much more but they have vast quantaties of motivation, they dont want to be part of fookhead in the kremlins country, they have their own and want to keep it and now they have much more weapons of all kinds, tanks, artillery, small arms and ammunition,id guess that anything the Ukrainian Army is doing at the moment is probing the front line, seeing whats weak, strong, reasonably easy, hard and making their plans as to when and how they move next...to quote the Rolling Stones 'you cant always get what you want...but...sometimes...you get what you need' i think the Ukraines will get what they need...

    Not exactly true no,

The Ukrainan military had come along way compared to 2014 ,they have also been training with Nato and other forces for the last 10 years at least, they also had thousands of tanks and armoured vehicles and an airforce.

I know the Donbas "republics" are not part of Russia. But they have people fighting on the Russian side, so their casualties should be added to the Russian total, albeit with a separate identity, like Wagner.

These daily arguments between the two most active posters are becoming tiresome.

yeah true they had more then duct tape, vise grips and wd40...but theyre a lot better equipped and more manpower now then last year...

plus theres not much that cant be fixed with vise grips, duct tape and wd40

    Yeah I get that,

But this is Russia we're not losing men but the other republics are suffering heavy losses, with there mosin nagant bolt action rifles from WW2 and tin helmets,

This is part of the misinformation the Kremlin use ,come the end of the war they Will categorise their losses to the different republics and tell us Russians didn't die and Wagner is made up of foreign recruits meaning even less Russians died and people will believe them

I think it is two Irish men now killed fighting on the side of freedom. I hope they are both honoured by the State and it would be nice to see a plaque or statue honouring them in their localities. There families should be rightfully proud of them.

The 19 French made Caesar artillery pieces donated by Denmark have arrived. A magnificent gesture, their entire inventory.

And the 6 Spanish Leopards arrived in Poland.

I am sure you remember that ww2 was fought for a reason too,but what do you care.

You just enjoy the freedom that others have to fight for

Attacking is costly, look at Bakhmut.

It is also easier to be a poor soldier but effective in defence than a good soldier in an offense.

It will be very costly for Ukraine to attack, yet they must. Much harder than the last 14 months I'd say.

There was talk here about Ukraine having one chance, that's not that far off analysis out of Washington and other pro Ukrainian outlets. Western armies are at the lowest level of supply and readiness that i can think of.

The inflow of weapons and ammunition, will largely dry up from Europe this year.

America should be able to keep going longer.

The answer to this is not to go on about Kremlin bots but for the West to go on an aggressive military industry expansion, State intervention to immediately expand these industries as a national priority, treat it as a war effort, treat it as the long term existential strategic threat it may well be.

That's not going to happen though. The opposite will, Putin looks at most of Western Europe and despite everything his heart lifts.

@Danzy "The inflow of weapons and ammunition, will largely dry up from Europe this year."

As far as I'm aware most of the countries involved upped production of ammunition.

It looks like history is starting up again.

Looking at the defence lines,Ukraine have to pass trough 3 lines under heavy artillery and probably air support

    It wont be easy.

But i think Ukraine is covered for the offensive atleast with ammo,if the war continues, then there might be problems on both sides.

I think Russians have the same problem.

And EU,NATO and US have ramped up ammo production, missiles and so on allready, but they wont produce anything unless an order comes in.

This is Ukraines final push,if they dont succseed i am afraid it will end up negotiating, and maybe not in Ukraines favor,so pressure is on.

They have but it is from such low levels and the use in Ukraine, currently constrained by shortage is still outpacing production by a magnitude.

The Russian communists always believed in mass production of shells and they have returned to the in the last 20 years. So while much of what they have might be shi7, they'll keep enough shells coming. Primitive but probably enough to hold much of what they have.

This war will at least go on till late in 24, very possibly in to 25 or 26.

What's the plan in Europe for that?

    SFA plan.

Russia can't succeed but they are of the mindset that burning down the other man's house along with your own is a success.

They may well end up being defeated but holding most of what they have now.

How will the Donetsk and Luhance soldiers fighting for the Russian side REACT when Putin tells the nation that very few Of the Muscovite population were KIA and when they see what the boss an was prepared to do to their area - will they stick with him or will they say ‘ Fcuk this for a hoard of cowboys I’m winging it to the UKr side’s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,895 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

The frontline is just too long for Russia to have defense lines 3 deep. Under artillery fire, that would be possible, but Ukraine has mobile artillery to take them out. As for close air support, I'd be surprised if Ukraine didn't bring their mobile AA along with them.

The end of the day it's a NATO mindset/training vs old Soviet doctrine. If Ukraine picked a nice soft point on the line and attacked and breached it rapidly, you may very well see just how committed Russian defenders are at staying to fight.

Still some peddling the ‘one chance’, Russia has a load of shells.

Tell me, how are their gun barrels holding up? Maybe they’ll get Vlad and Boris to carry the shells to Ukraine positions in donkey carts.

How anyone beyond Forrest Gump level intelligence can have confidence in Russian military competence is beyond me.

Russian troops are donkeys lead by bigger donkeys. Their advantage is that they operate a dystopian regime, but that’s not going to survive indefinitely. The centre cannot hold.

Iv'e no idea what point you are attempting to make.

I sure hope you are right

I guess excalibur rounds will take out russian artillery with ease, but i just hope they have enough mobile air defences to go along, since they lack fighter jets.

    Fingers crossed

I hope we will see fleeing Russians once again
