For anyone looking to buy a type 2 cable for whatever reason, I was quoted up to €350 for one from an Irish supplier. I picked up a 10M/32A one here:
They don't charge VAT if you purchase from the EU, then you get changed VAT and customs on import. Cost was £133.91 (on revolut it was €151.57) and VAT and duty came to €41.47, so sub €200 is a bit of a win. It seems to be a Rolec cable and the quality looks to be 100%.
Thanks for the offer, got one on the way now from manufacturer. Sorted through Kellihers Electrical.
Damage to the rear light and indentation around charging port.
I booked the Ranger to come and check it out. The cable had one loop around the Zappi so should be okay. Thanks for the heads up about the cable but I wanted it original in case I ever have a warranty claim.
Holes are the correct size, the screws were bent. You underestimate the size of the dog and the speed he was travelling. Isolator is fitted yes.
Nope, it was the dog. I was outside about 10 seconds after it happened as I heard it happen.
Anyone know why my Solar PV Harvi only works in "Generation only" mode and not "Gen & battery"?
I've a Sofar hybrid inverter with DC coupled batteries, Harvi is on the grid output
When I set it to Gen&battery it displays 0kW from PV but if I set Gen only it displays correctly
It's not a critical issue but I just find it slightly annoying
I don't believe any function was ever implemented for Gen&Bsttery
Change it back to generation only, even if you have a hybrid + batteries. Gen & Battery is broken, always has been. Gen & battery doesn't log correctly in graphs etc.
Thanks, good to know it isn't just an issue with my setup
Does anyone know if there's a way to see how much energy the Zappi has been charging the car from the grid?
I can see the statistics for overall grid consumption, and how much energy has gone into the car
But I can't really find anything that says how much of the energy into the car came from the grid
I can probably join up the dots by looking at the timing on the charging logs, but I'm hoping there's just a display that shows it
EDIT: Pretty sure I found it, just go into the charge log and it shows it for a particular time period
FWIW, I got 118kWh from sunshine and 17kWh from the grid this month. At average consumption of 19kWh/100km, that's over 600km of free driving
Not bad at all 😁
That's pretty good, I haven't got nearly as much but mainly because any sunny day both cars seem to be away. At least we have been kind to the grid for a change..😎
I'm WFH full time now so I can just leave the car plugged in all the time, and my mileage is low as a result. Also I'd no house battery until Thursday so literally all my excess was going into the car
I'm not sure I'll do as well next month, got a 10kWh house battery to fill before I start sending excess to the car. But a few sunny days per week will hopefully keep me ahead of my usage
We're definitely being a lot kinder to the grid, maybe we'll get a thank you card from ESBN 😁
Next month is May, one of the best months in ireland.
Also, First month of summer in my book.
Of course, good weather generally comes in waves, and do if you manage to fill are car one day, there no remaining capacity the following day :(
So there's a greater chance to fill and discharge a solar battery each day
Tbh financially I don't really care much if the car doesn't get charged much, with such a cheap night rate that we have atm. More important to have loads of hot water and the battery full for evening use and no expensive electricity usage during the day.
But there is something very pleasing about putting the odd 50kms or whatever into the car from the sun..
Ah but you've jinxed it now 😉
True, and even if I got 0% of my solar into the car but managed to fully utilise the house battery it works out better than diverting everything to the car
After all, if you send a kWh of solar into the car you've saved about 14c, but if you use a kWh in the house then you've saved something closer to 44c
So offsetting the daytime usage is definitely far more lucrative
But...free kilometres are free kilometres 😁
I agree, while it isn't the best financially it is very satisfying. I think it can be hard to see the benefits of solar at times, so it's nice to chase the more tangible benefits like running the appliances for free or getting free energy into your car
Is there anwaybti get the Zappi to display the cost of imported electricity? I've programmed the tariffs in the app but it doesn't seem to have done anything to any of the displays
If I get solar panels installed after the Zappi, does an electrician need to come out again to enable the zappi to pull from solar?
Use a Solar Installer that sell Zappi also and they should be able to set it all up correctly for you as part of their install.
It depends.
If the Zappi installer put in the CT clamp you don’t need him back for it to work.
Also, you would typically install an optional second CT clamp when you get the panels in so you can get more data from the system but it’s not required.
No they wouldn't need to. Any changes necessary would just be settings on the Zappi or app which are easy.
Nothing special needed to be compatible with solar, apart from the grid ct clamp that you're supposed to install anyway.
To future proof just get the Zappi installer to run a cat 5 cable back to the fuse box for the grid ct clamp, when you get solar you can just use another pair in the same cable for the solar clamp.
You don't strictly need the solar clamp, the Zappi only uses the grid clamp to measure solar excess. But it's nice to have the solar data in the myenergi app and the clamp is only €20 or so.
Thanks folks, any recommended installers which do both Solar Panels and Zappi?
Eco Solar Energy in Tipp do both but I’m sure there’s lots of others as Zappi seems to be a popular choice.
Pretty much any solar installers do Zappis as well
Based on https://www.myenergi.com/ie/product/ct-clamp/, it seems that the CT clamp comes as standard with the charger. So I think that should be fine.
The Harvi device seems to be a good addition from the solar perspective too?
1400 seems to be best quote for the Zappi I see online
Just so people aren't misled, a Harvi is simply a device for sending data to the Eddi or Zappi WIRELESSLY, when the CT clamp cannot be hardwired.
So a Harvi should be only used as a Last Resort
Looking to replace my charging cable on the V1 zappi. Anyone order from these guys before?

Haven’t ordered from them before but I did order a cable from the U.K. recently. There is a post about it at the top of this page. VAT and duty was about €40. This seems like a good price.
Just spotted that, will give them a look cheers. I assume cable all worknig fine since ya got it?
Issue with mine is it occasionally wont connect to the car so i think there's something broke inside. A bit of faffing will get it going usually but getting sick of the messing about now especially since I want to be diverting excess solar.
