There is a video somewhere of every single prop getting destroyed at a scrum unless they have played so little that it hasn't happened yet.
What games were those?
He got absolutely destroyed in the first two games he played this season. He has steadily improved but coming back from a long term injury can have an impact.
He got absolutely destroyed in his few minutes off the bench against Zebre and Scarlets back in October? How many scrums were there?
How many scrums were there?
One. 😉
Yikes.
If you want to continue to look up obscure SA Twitter accounts to make a point no one is disputing, go for it.
Alternatively you can engage with what’s actually being said.
I don't really recall him getting demolished too often for Leinster this season, but he definitely wasn't impactful as a scrummager early in the season either.
He had a tough time of it on the EI tour, but so did our whole pack really in the tight.
That to me was the biggest change in him - the impact of coaching and the improvements in his game over the past 7 months or so are stark IMO. He really held his own against Malherbe and then the really destructive Ntlabakanye in recent weeks.
Ntlabakanye absolutely demolished the Munster scrum back in January (Josh Wycherley for 32 mins, then Kilcoyne).
Munster loose head actually did well there. Archer at tight head was destroyed.
Will be very fascinating to see if one of Frawley or Harry Byrne can pip Crowley to the third choice ten spot in the rwc squad.
If that happens, this place would be unbearable.
I think that's more likely now with Ross Byrne there instead of Carbery. You can afford to take a gamble on Harry bryne being fit due to Ross being so robust. With carbery and sexton you couldn't take that gamble
Irrelevant point.
It will be Sam Prendergast
If I’m honest, that would be worth the meltdown.
Would it be a straight choice between Frawley and Crowley? I imagine RB and Crowley will travel as specialist fly halves, but three seems light as Sexton is increasingly vulnerable to injury, and four seems excessive, so Frawley may travel as a utility back covering out half, inside centre, and full back. I doubt it's a direct competition with RB or Crowley.
It's hard to see an argument for HB as he has been injured so much.
Normal state of affairs for Archer
A short lived melt down before his inevitable motm and Carter vs the Lions 2005 eqse performance
I'm going to have to duck for cover here and I'm sure he'll travel but at this stage I'm really not convinced at all by Crowley as an OH. I don't really want to see him getting minutes at 10 in any of the SA, Scotland or knockout games in the RWC.
I’m the same, not writing him off just think this RWC is too soon
That's pretty much it. I think he can go on to be a good international but really just not seeing it yet. Farrell et al seem to think differently and they've earned our trust but I do really hope they haven't made an error.
He is very raw. If it was me, I would bring Sexton, R Byrne and Joey to WC
Even with the 6N I'd still surprised if Carbery is left out, though he has his work cut out for him to play much if any rugby between now and the end of the season. The coaches still have to sit down and look at what each of the alternatives have delivered for Ireland. Obviously Byrne is nailed on as he had a very good 6N, but the rest haven't done much, and no more than Carbery, in green. Joey has had a couple of terrible performances granted, but he was solid in most of his outings. I doubt they are expecting anyone other than Sexton to shoot the lights out in France.
Crowley is in the same situation as Frawley right now. Both are incredibly talented players and have been recognised as such by provincial and test level coaches. The provinces want them in the full strength 23.
But neither have been trusted to fully take the reins at 10 for their province so there's always that doubt surrounding them.
crowley has starting the last few games at 10 for munster though and is likely to continue for the rest of the season (may only be one game) so they arent that similar
Frawley just isn't seen as a 10 at all. There are 4 10s at Leinster and he's not one of them.
Crowley is a definite starter for Munster and has a clear run at their 10 jersey. Frawley has neither going for him. I think they're probably similar enough levels of player.
Carbery has stayed fit which is a huge plus for him. Farrell doesn't seem to really care about some players and what the provinces are doing with them. Bundee etc
He hasn't really had a terrible performance for Ireland, I don't think he had any terrible for Munster either.
If he gets into the extended training squad, which I can't see him not been in, then he has a full preseason with Ireland/Farrell etc. Probably a couple of behind doors games and then a run out in one of the preseason international friendlies. So it is up to him if he can get into the Irish WC squad and nobody else.
Byrne has a huge match tomorrow.....this could be his Sexton v Munster match
The Connacht game during the EI’s he was very poor (albeit that was at 15), but I think the larger point is that, while he may not have had any terrible games, he’s had some terrible moments, particularly defensively.
It’s a massive game for him, but I think that’s a bit overstating it. Realistically he’s not gonna get near Sexton’s level in his career. And that’s fine; Sexton is a generational talent.
I'd say there's close to 0 chance Frawley or HB get ahead of Crowley for the world cup at this point
It's hard to make a case for either guy because they've had so few games.
That said, the Irish coaches really seem to see something in Frawley so I would be pretty confident he'll be in the wider training squad, and from there, who knows? And Leinster could have up to five more games this season, all against quality opposition, so there is still time for guys to put a big display in.
