Correct Hegarty is ok for Saturday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,052 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Last year after he was wrongly vilified for getting the line against Clare he stuck a fantastic goal against them in the Munster final.

And after being pretty quiet in the AI semi stuck an even better goal in the final.

    So fingers crossed for Saturday.

Word is that Flanagan is cleared for Saturday as the incident was discussed during the game and deemed accidental.

Because it was discussed, it's deemed dealt with.

That's gonna cause war. I don't blame the ref at all for not seeing it on the day (no one in the stadium seemed to) but it was fairly obvious on TV.

Someone from Waterford made a good point though which is that it will probably suit Waterford to see Clare lose so Limerick are better off full strength.

It will, and part of me wants to see Flanagan do the time so refs aren't swayed against us, but maybe I'm being paranoid.

I agree with it suiting Clare and affecting Waterford; retrospective suspensions often have the reverse effect and work against the opposition.

Considering the options open to Kiely and that this is not exactly an isolated incident do you not think it is a strong possibility that Kiely benches him as a form of punishment or do you think Kiely is more likely to back him unconditionally and circle the wagons, us against the world type thing.

Its a tough one for Kiely, Id be inclined to do the latter as it has a danger of getting out of hand if there are no repercusions but I could also see the benefit of the Loughnane us against the world approach as well.

🤣 maybe when they start decapitating people they might get a one match ban?

I don't think he is likely to bench a player that isn't a consistent discipline problem. And if he did he would probably not admit that's why.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,884 ✭✭✭Pogue eile

3 red cards in little over 12 months would be considered a consistent discipline problem by any rational person.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,052 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I didn't think that was 3. Thats worse than I thought alright I could only think of the 1

And the worst thing about them is that there is absolutely no need for them at all, you can sometimes 'take one for the team' etc. but these are all completely avoidable, very reminiscent of Austin Gleeson. Hegarty said himself after the Galway one that he was embarrassed and he had let everyone down and then goes and does the exact same thing twice more - admittedly the Clare one was soft, but he gave the referee a decision to make.

From the outside it looks to me that the arm around the shoulder approach hasn't worked and that perhaps tough love is needed. I don't know Kiely or how his mind works though so will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I think that's right and I think if Hayes or O'Donoghue get 2 yellows in a game they'll get a ban due to already serving one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭High bike

Does anyone know for certain what the story is with Seamus Flanagan, surely if he's banned Limerick would have to be notified by now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,795 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

The CCC are looking into it and he still might be banned for a couple of games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭High bike

So when will the let Lumerick know ,how are they supposed to pick a team?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,052 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Its easy enough in fairness. Just have 2 teams ready.

If the managers are to believed they don't pick the team till after training on Friday night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭High bike

Is it possible that it won't be dealt with till after Saturday leaving him free to play and possibly be banned for future matches

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,874 ✭✭✭Quitelife

Its pathetic really all the whinging about Limerick players been physical , the media and anti limerick brigade seem to be hell bent on getting Limerick to play a match with ten men so someone can beat them . To be fair to Kilkenny no whinging out of them after the league final .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,052 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Kilkenny got all the same talk in their heyday. A lot of people trying to rewrite history and pretend we all sat in quiet awe and reverence watching that Kilkenny team but the truth is we done our best to pick them apart too for "playing on the edge"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,646 ✭✭✭washman3

Hard to understand. It's Wednesday night now, game is on Saturday. Surely they could have convened on Monday night even via zoom-call and made a decision either way. I believe the referee writes his match report before leaving his dressing room after the game (so as to avoid outside influence) so he could have submitted it straight away via email etc. In "bygone" days a committee had to "wait" for refs report to arrive by mail, but then again there was probably 3/4 weeks between games. Anyone know the make-up of the CCCC,? Are they the same people for all decisions and do members have to excuse themselves in certain situations? Not much point of having a fella from Limerick and another from Clare deciding if Flanagan should be suspended or not.!!

At this stage I'd imagine Michael Verney was right on Monday when he said the incident was reviewed on the day by the match officials and can't be revisited

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭C4000

CCCC are a 5 person committee appointed by Gaa president and serve a three year term running alongside the president's term.

Current members are: Derek Kent (Leinster Council chairman), Martin McHugh (Former donegal footballer), John Halbert (former Cork hurler), Mary Judge (Galway County Board) and Seamus Kenny (former Meath footballer and Croke Park administrator)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,052 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Maybe these guys were all top dual players or refs but it seems stupid that both sports don't have their own CCCC.

I think I heard on a podcast that there is only one team assigning refs to both sports too.

It's grand for us but imagine this kinda wait for a small county who only have one or two big players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭C4000

Yep they are mainly given these jobs due to their administrative backgrounds at county/provincial level rather than any high level playing experience. Most of the Cccc functions are administrative, setting fixtures etc. But they also have this role of adjucating on refereeing calls/suspensions. Not sure if they have access to advice from serving refs as part of the process.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for a lot of people outside Limerick but rumour has it Flanagan is in the clear, incident was reviewed on the day end of

The Kilkenny guys know the story. They ve lived through vexatious allegations against their style of play. It's typical Ireland. We did the same to the Aussies in the Compromise rules. We are desperate whingers.
