New Munster chat thread folks. warning deserved there. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=109477571#post109477571
As for this... it was his 7th yellow card for us in 174 appearances (146 starts) over 13 seasons.
That's not typically thuggish by any measure.
I thought we were well off the pace in the first half and lucky to be only 19-3 down. Multiple missed tackles and poor decision making made for a horror show. The scrum was heading for a YC and is still a worry area if we are to target cups in the future.
loughman and Archer were in all sorts of trouble, not sure if thats from the refereeing or just pure power from the Sharks. It did seem to settle down in the second half, which sounds like adjustments were made at half time, which was good to see.
looks to me like the Sharks were getting an early nudge every time and engaged in such a way that the munster scrum couldnt set properly. A few delayed put ins by Murray seemed to sort it out.
but the team stuck with it and upped the intensity at the start of the second half and rattled the sharks. The sharks lost their composure and started making mistakes, one of which was to try to target POM (or was it POM who targeted all 15 of them ? :) )
fantastic to get very good performances and results from all the squad on that mini tour, especially when the SA teams needed results themselves.
we are still looking like an immature squad with hot and cold performances, sharks part 1 and Glasgow(cold)vs Stormers and Sharks part 2 (hot)
our focus and intensity seems to be either excellent or awful, even sometimes drifting between the two during the match itself , like first half vs second half yesterday (cold to hot ) and the scarlets match (hot to cold).
hopefully a bit of maturity in squad terms will settle that down.
one issue that has me worried is where are our leaders when POM eventually retires ?
no denying yesterday gave us all a spring in our step today
This ensured we ended the game in their 22 and unlucky not to have bagged a BP win.
Thank you thank you thank you!
From Connacht!
to try to target POM (or was it POM who targeted all 15 of them ? :)
I have it on good authority that 1 v 15 wasn't enough for POM, so he intentionally got himself yellow-carded to brawl with locals on the sideline. In the ten minutes he put together an undefeated streak of 29 fights and secured a KwaZulu-Natal divisional title.
QF confirmed for Saturday 6th May Glasgow Warriors (4) v Munster (5)
Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow
KO: 19:35 IRE & UK / 20:35 ITA & SA
Live on: RTÉ, SuperSport, ViaPlay, Premier Sports, URC.tv, FloRugby
I was looking at flights out of Dublin on the Saturday and returning late Sunday night and they were cheap enough. In saying that I don't think I'll travel.
i originally thought the kick was going to continue straight and bounce into the in-goal (or even dead), to see it veer off at pretty much a right angle was pure beauty
Frisch nailed the kick, but it was also great deception to have Healy take the ball from the lineout, looking to all the world that he'd be the kicker.
More than likely drew their winger infield the yard or two needed for the ball to get over his head into the corner.
Ox strolling over for a bro-fist with RG while all hell breaks loose. It's so pure.
320 now for the "normal" flight times
Well he's not gonna grow 3 or 4 inches, but he could be an outstanding back row option in a 3 lock pack
RG, Kleyn, Ahern, Edogbo as the 2nd rows, Beirne and Wycherley as 3rd locks playing in the back row
Should Calvin Nash's try have been given?
Yes, you can touch the ball down even if you are out of play. If he had possession prior to touching down it would have been disallowed.
Law 8.2 (e) covers it
"Who is in touch or touch-in-goal, grounds the ball in the opponents’ in-goal provided the player is not holding the ball."
Hard to blame fans for posting this when their capltain is being applauded for doing it week in week out.
Nope. You can only score like that if the ball is already on the ground when you touch it.
If he was doing it week in, week out he’d have more than 7 yellow cards in 174 appearances.
Some people just seem to really dislike POM.
Im talking about the crap talk towards opposition. Adamson pulled him twice for the way he spoke to him.
His game is now based on excellent lineout work and extreme sledging , winding up opposition players. Not much criteria for measuring greatness.
I think pom would not have got away with this a generation ago , say in mick galweys time. He uses the protection of referees now to get away with this kak.
That's a very narrow interpretation of the law by the South African guy in that clip. I think Adamson had it right.
I remember Dave Kearney getting an almost identical one against the Ospreys a few years ago much to the bemusement of the Welsh.
Edit; it was Barry Daly, at 3.30 here

Wait, you think people get away with more now than in Gaillimh’s time??
I think in galweys era he wouldnt get away with his antics because he would have got a quick pk in the mouth.
Players less likely to retaliate these days due to heavier suspensions , lots of cameras and tmo intervention.
His antics and support he receives from fans does not sit easily with me. Just my opinion.
Fair enough.
Personally think he’s been absolutely outstanding for the last 2 seasons, and saying his game is based on lineout and sledging isn’t close to the truth, imo.
Yes
Ok , everyone entitled to opinions but i genuinely dont see what he brings as a loose forward apart from lineout.
His metre carries are zero and he is less and less performing turnovers.
If you’re looking for carry’s from POM, you’re looking for the wrong thing. (And fwiw, I think this is often overstated).
Did you see the Stormers game, for example?
His ruck work there was fantastic, especially attacking breakdown. He’s also significantly improved his handling. And he’s generally an excellent footballer; he regularly puts thru some brilliant kicks for it to be a coinicidence.
That’s all on top of his lineout work and jackal threat.
He’s always had exceptional handling for a backrow. It just doesn’t fit with his “profile” so most ignore it.
Nash's try should not have stood. The ball is in the air when he plays it. If the ball had been on the ground the try is good. A player is considered to be carrying the ball as the ball is in the air when it is first played. Law 22.4 (g) in relation to touch and touch in goal only applies if the ball is on the ground.
correct, this was confirmed under clarification by WR a few years ago. The law number has been changed though, its 21.9 now.
• If a player is not carrying the ball then Law 22.4 (g) applies - Player in touch or touch-in-goal. If an attacking player is in touch or in touch-in-goal, the player can score a try by grounding the ball in the opponents’ in-goal provided the player is not carrying the ball.
The designated members confirm that:
1. A try should not be awarded,
2. The player is considered to be carrying the ball as the ball is in the air when it is first played and,
3. Law 22.4 (g) only applies if the ball is on the ground.
There obviously a reason Farrell picks POM as joe schmidt before him did, considering the back row options ireland have I doubt his wearing green for his sledging ability😀
