The USA is the wealthiest and most influential country in the world. It's also a significant investor in and trading partner for Ireland as well as being a pillar of support against the Brits. More than reason enough there if you ask me.

That’s the thing though - you know he’s just entertainment, like any wind-up merchant, and sure there’s no question like many wind-up merchants they are intelligent. Where the issue arises is that their audiences generally aren’t, and tend to hang on their every word as though it’s gospel.
It’s no surprise Hitchens was an admirer. If he hadn’t carved out a career arguing against religion, he too would still have been trying to wind up liberals.
