They could have at least tidied it up for sale.
This is the biggest mystery of all to me.
Whatever about the James Bond style mansions with wine rooms and purple shiny floors, or Lara Croft gothic houses - why someone wouldn't drop a grand or so on a couple of youngfellas and a skip or two to at least clear the rubbish, when that would almost guarantee at least more interest and probably a higher sale price, is beyond me.
That's right, it was sold in 2021. I just looked it up, they bought it for €1,455,000. Asking price is now €1.35m.
There are cars outside it occasionally but not often, I think they may have been renting it out as a holiday home. It's in a beautiful setting with great views of Lough Gill.
Edit: they are renting the two buildings separately: https://www.rent.ie/holiday-homes/sligo/ballintogher/
Yes, it all looks so uncared for, the house in general, and the garden.
Grim - the whole thing.
I'd say the house didn't see a lick of paint, even, since the first time it was done.
It didn’t look too bad back in 2009 on Streetview but I suppose that was 14 years ago!
Satellite dish on the fence is bizarre though. Must lasted about 5 mins before the local teenagers were swinging out of it in a moment of high spirits.
You need planning permission to put a satellite dish on the front of a building...
One if our least respected planning laws:-)
If you were invited to a house party here you would be very impressed driving up the drive, it's very impressive. Over half the photos are of the outside, I wonder why?
Here's the culprit;
The outside is lovely but there is not a single thing of the interior that I like, its fussy, pretentious, and I would have to strip all the wallpaper immediately.
Thats a beautiful house- its a sin though what they done to the interior. They absolutely ruined it - an old house should never be decorated like that.
I love that interior. Just not with that exterior.
Ya it's a modern interior but so what. I like both the interior and exterior. I like to know what condition the interior of two cottages are in. I presume both are rented. However I wonder are they short or long term let's.
The garden shed could be let as well. I like to see the details of the energy efficiency of the house. Are the fixes to bring it up to B rating cosmetic or structural. It on a gid sized plot of land if someone wanted to keep a horse or a few animals.
You want to be well-off to own it
The white plastic circles on the walls remind of the tardis in Doctor Who in the 80's 😁
The culprit - that's a useless website and they appear to only have the one client.
From the outside, the house is absolutely fabulous. Even if I was allowed to live in it for free, I don't think I could handle the interior.
My fellow citizens.....what do we share in common but citizenship I guess. Disturbing that there's a whole class of Irish people out there who will never have the opportunity or chance to break out of whatever cycle they are in.
The interior decoration of that house is hilarious, like someone was taking the piss. What's with all the artwork that looks like it was picked by a horny 15 year old boy?
I would hazard a guess that it's a protected structure and that, for example, the up & down single glazed windows etc. could not be touched. It would be next to impossible to heat it. OK for a summer house but not as a permanent residence.
Has to be a female. Look at all the unnecessary toiletries in the bathroom.
I'm intrigued by the casual bottle of "replica perfume/aftershave" in the bathroom
It's a man you can see his jacket in one of the pics. I also just went back for a look at these unnecessary toiletries and they are not women's things. He probably has them years and built up a collection.
A collection of Christmas presents hahahaha.
I doubt it's a protected structure seeing as they've stuck solar panels on the roof.
Edit. I just checked the list of protected structures for Wicklow in the Wicklow County Development Plan 2016 - 2022 and it's not in it.
The pictures hanging in the office are pictures of some of the rooms i think 🤣.
Maybe the owner is the interior designer, trying to launch herself as an interior designer, but couldn't afford the upgrade so is having to sell.
Ok, so I know location won't appeal to many, but this is a lovely renovation.
That's a cracking house and garden to be fair, very nicely done, a house that would be a pleasure to live in I expect...Roscommon on the other hand...I once knew a woman from there...she used to say people often misheard her when she described her hometown as a "rough common woman" 😀
That is a beauty. Lovely house, lovely garden and really nice renovation. That balcony doesn’t look half dangerous though 😂
It does seem a bit remote, but less than 40 mins from Athlone, just over an hour from Galway. I could see someone living the good life there, growing their own veg etc but still being able to get into the office if needed.
Can't fault that house. I'd be gutted selling it.
Don't know anything about Roscommon though 😂
Stunning!!!! I'd have no problem living there.
We rented a house in W Cork with exposed interior walls like that - I think it was built into the old town walls or something - and it was an absolute sponge for damp!
Our boots, shoes and gear, if we left them anywhere near the walls overnight (anywhere at all downstairs, really, but especially near the walls), were absoutely sodden the next morning. And it was impossible to heat it (and this was in the middle of summer).
That house has a BER of C3, so I'm sure it's nothing like that - but it's still giving me the shivers just looking at it!
Nice job, though, and I love the gardens.
I wouldn't fancy being the second person to the dinner table though!!🤣
Yes, that was my first reaction, but I have a very jaundiced view of quaint old cottages. A small part of my house is the original cottage that the 'extension' (a complete house) was built onto, it is like a fridge. The new part of the house is excellent. I would never buy an entire old building, they are much more trouble and expense than they are worth, regardless of how cute and romantic they are.
