Chinese electric car brand BYD to enter Irish market this year (breakingnews.ie)
After grant, so net cost around 40k incl delivery charges etc, probably slightly under 40
Definitely tempting, I still need the higher car due to kids in car seats and a back back. Trying to get them into a saloon height is hard going. So might hold off on a Tesla for a few more years.
I like the look of this BYD, looks more like the ID4 than anything else.
Will defo ask them about a trade in offer on my top spec MGZS. Tesla offered a laughable 23k. For a 6 month old car that retails at 39k with a 12-18 month waiting list. I know Tesla really don't want trade ins so it rules them out for a lot of people.

Just got sent a whatsapp picture of a fancy looking dealership being readied in Deangrange
Where is that? Can't quite tell from the picture, is that where Hyundai was?
No, Frank Keane. It’s on the grave yard side.
hyundai across the road
satellite of MSL Grange.
That's a decent location, shows the market they intend pitching into. I was wondering what was going on when all the Volkswagens disappeared.

Just to be clear, Tesla didn't offer you a trade in. The chancers that value cars in the network to which Tesla submit their customer cars make the offers and Tesla relay that to you unabridged.
Yeah that's right, but this is the method they have decided to use for trade ins. And it's a laughable offer.
According to one dealer who posted on the FB group it’s not unabridged. Tesla supposedly take a cut, when that dealer found out they stopped working with Tesla.
Isn't this how all dealers value something that they won't retail themselves? Do Tesla not submit to the same network as say a VW main dealership? Can't see the logic behind that business model to be honest
I,m only guessing the price of the Atto3 , but I think I,ll be waiting for the dolphin.
Still no mention of BYD on Msl sites.
Tesla will offer you a purchase value for your car that will be consistent with what other motor dealers will offer for the car. Essentially the car is then sold at market value to make a profit for the dealer. For example. I got offered 36k by every dealer for my A3 and it was later sold at 44k. That's just how the motor trade works, unfortunately.
Generally, if you trade a car to a traditional dealer who can sell the car there, they will offer you slightly more. It's one of the disadvantages of buying a Tesla but it is what it is. If your car is old enough to sell privately, that would be the best route. Buyers tend to stay away from newer private sales on the likes of Carzone and Donedeal.
The Tesla trade-in offer wasn't a few grand out. It was €17,000 off 🤣. There are low ball offers and then there is the we don't want your business offer.
If I look on carzone there is 1 other ZS. It's the short range model, it's older and has 3 times the milage and it's €36K!
I thought if they offered me 35K for my 6-month-old car that retails at 40K, they could prob sell it in under a week at 37-38 and still make a few grand. I could put 12k with it and get the model Y and not have to deal with selling privately and all the scammers and tyre kickers that brings.
But anyway I don't want to derail this into a Tesla trade in conversation. But it's one of the main reasons I'm looking at BYD and other traditional dealers for the new car.
It's strange that Tesla offered you so little. I haven't dealt with them personally but I went through a similar process with Polestar. What year is your MGZS? A 221 averages at about 31k so 23k does seem a bit laughable. I don't think the waiting list thing matters at the moment as EV availability has improved immensely since February of this year.
If I was buying a Tesla, I'd get my car valued at Spirit Motors in Sandyford. You will lose your nuts on a 6-month-old car as I did, but they will offer you a true market value and at least you know where you stand. Some cars hold their value better than others.
On the BYD thing, I look forward to their entry into the Irish market. I think they will be a big player here.
There is activity on Twitter today at least, from €37,128 (click through to Twitter to read the comments referring to the price and details)

It's a 222 😀, and the waiting list was more about the people that are still waiting for their MG. If you check out the MG threads there are people waiting well over a year already. MG dealers here have even gone as far as to tell people that they don't expect any more ZS's to arrive and they should swap their order for a MG4. So the reasoning here was that someone would prob take a 6-month-old car over waiting another year and a half for their more expensive lower-spec'd new one. (MG raised the price and lowered the spec)
Sunday World says the price range is €37,128 rising to €38,964 (3 trim levels).

If your car was 39k new, then it's probably worth around 34-36k now so they should have offered you at least 26-28k for it. It's a shocking figure but used car sales are strong and the dealers have leverage now when paying wholesale as there is so much available now.
BYD launched this morning with prices and test drives available for booking.

Good price undercut of its competitors, the kona, eniro etc.
By all accounts availability meant to be good as well.
Role on more EV choice!
Cheaper than I thought, was thinking 40k but it still proves cheap medium range EV's, yet alone long range EV's are way off and the Chinese haven't it cracked
A 60kWh battery, 150kW high performance electric motor, controller, inverter, dc charger, onboard charger, charge port, cooling etc is still the bones of 15-20k on it's own, that's a lot of money to replace an engine and fuel tank
I’ve already requested a test drive.
The base model says not fast charge, I'm trying to figure out what they mean. Not a lot of information on each spec of the 3 levels of trim.
I seen that. That would be a major cheapskate manoeuvre in this day and age!
What's their ICE equivalent Stevie?
A new qashqai is at that price or above.
A 22k Duster :)
