Apparently AI is planning to impose a €3 levy on every non-member entry to AI-permitted road races.
A critical take here from the Running in Cork site:
https://www.corkathletics.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2468:proposed-athletics-ireland-race-levy-2022&catid=9&Itemid=226
The most bizarre element (to me) is the part about sanctions on AI members running in non-permitted events. Echoes of the GAA ban.
On the other hand, it’s not surprising that AI would want to derive more income from the popularity of road racing. Not sure this is the best way though.
