Michael told the pharmacist * that his mam left with his sister, when he was a child. Must have been a pretty serious reason for leaving, and not bringing her 2 sons as well.
Potential for possibly bringing her +/- the sister into future seasons, perhaps?

I don't think Jimmy was ever a hard man. Forgiving your wife for cheating on you with your brother, of all people, is not a characteristic of a hard man. I honestly don't think any characters besides Amanda and maybe Mikey have had any real character development.
I think with this Bren character coming into it, the writers have become lazy, we’re getting a lot less character development of the others, particularly Amanda’s husband who seems to have gone from hard man to hardly man. Very strange. Pacing is definitely better this series, with more twists which is good to keep it interesting.
Yes. Some of the "ordinary decent" crims in recent memory, make extreme pains to stay very ordinary appearing and try to keep those they use and abuse under the impression that they are "one of their own".
Amanda and Nikita are not unlike some of the wags who flash the cash a bit more and apparently this is ok as they are meant to be ornamental accesories. /s

Not sure if Michael is that memorable yet, although he is definitely a good actor.
He just hasn't been given anything meaty or vicious enough yet. Even the shootings he was involved with are clean cut and almost clinical, like an assassin.
I agree that Fran’s charisma shone through in season three when he was given more to do, not so obvious in the second season. He came into his own in four and five.

I'd feel Nidge and Fran had made their mark after a few episodes. Unless Michael heads down a Jamie Dornan in the Fall route.

Time will tell. I’d wager that Michael and Amanda will stand the test of time. It’ll take a few seasons to know, as it did for Fran & Nidge.
Nidge got married in the final episode of L/H season 1 and they all did some mad dance into the wedding chapel. This dance was copy of somebody real wedding that went viral on social media, must have been facebook.
As regards TV entertainment no one will remember Frank, Birdy and Michael in 10 years time. Nidge, Fran, still remembered after 10 years.
If we wanted totally realistic Paul Williams and the like would be directing and I don't think that's what the viewer wants. Maybe they do.
