It’s been mooted that it could be the new Cork City Library. The funding guaranteed during Covid would need to come through first. I think they had a letting in place with Peleton before the company nearly collapsed.
What school is in Dennehys Cross?
I think a lot of the objections were about how the school wasn't happy with balconies overlooking the playground. Of course there'll always be some objecting to height though.
Edit - I'm thinking of an entirely different location
Sigh. Who in the council is doing this idiotic objecting and why are they not overruled by someone with good sense? The city is a sprawl of sideways development, shortages of housing everywhere, and they object to a measly 6 floor? Utter nonsense, it's far more efficient and effective to build upwards, and for the floors to be tall, light and airy. It's almost like their primary strategy is to be as wasteful as possible with the land we have, continuing to build pokey dark hovels.
Not the prettiest of new buildings ,
But would of thought 5 or 6 storeys was more in keeping with the church .. obviously id be less keen if i was one of the houses nearby if i was being overlooked, although the church its grounds as well as the wide roads kind of help
That and the Custom House Quay development which is MIA
You referring to the prism site,is that completely dead in the water?
Don’t know what those councillors were worried about; given Tower Holdings recent record the current building will be demolished and then nothing……
The previous 5/6 storey application was rejected by ABP/CCC.
A proposal had been lodged to construct two blocks of up to six storeys in height on the site of the former Dennehy's Cross Garage. However, An Bord Pleanála has refused planning permission for the project on a number of grounds including its excessive height and scale as well as its “inappropriate layout and design”.
The board said the proposal would result in “a visually obtrusive development” which would have a negative impact on the nearby Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit. It claimed the development would dominate and obscure views of the church’s distinctive dome and twin towers.
Cork City Council had previously rejected plans for the scheme. In appealing that rejection, the developer offered to reduce the height of the apartment blocks by one storey and said the plan was in line with government planning policies.

I mean the church is massive, why are they restricted on height?
No that's further down the dual carriageway, the "Big Dog" is the large gate at the end of the first straight on the dual carriageway
Is that not a fertility clinic?
Drawings now online
Saw a van coming out of there during the week.
Wonder will they set it back so that the junction can be widened at some point in the future, or whether they'll basically put it overhanging the traffic lanes.
Application submitted for a food store and 30 apartments at Dennehys Cross.
Permission for the redevelopment of the site of the former 'Dennehys Cross Garage', the proposed development consists of the partial change of use from commercial to residential, the demolition of the former garage structure and the preservation of the existing 20th century structure on the site (former butchers) for use as an artisan market food store. Planning permission is also sought for the construction of a residential development consisting of 30 no. apartment units over 4 storeys containing 9 no. 1 bed units and 21 no. 2 bed units. A circa 179m2 cafe/restaurant unit is also proposed on the ground floor. Permission is sought for the above as well as for the provision of bin storage and bike storage providing 49 no. bike parking spaces as well as drainage, plant, landscaping and all associated site development works. The proposed development is located at the site formerly known as, 'Dennehys Cross Garage', Model Farm Road, Cork.

Big amount of scaffolding going up in front of the old Easons building this morning with more in a truck to still go up outside or inside the building. What exactly is going in there when it’s all finished ?
It’s a different one I heard about, Lotamore, big site accessed via “big dog” on the dual carriageway
Just saw that confirmed - Montenotte's Hyde Park House and Clifton Convalescent Home to house Ukrainian refugees (irishexaminer.com)
That the one in Tivoli? Heard a rumour about that recently
And another big old house near it as well.
Apparently the home itself will be used for ukrainans or asylum seekers.
Seems like a no brainier, really.
Interesting planning application in light of the large amount of construction of student accommodation. A proposal to change the use of Arcadia Hall to residential accommodation
Or it will likely be me blocking the entire road when I need to load a packed van full of gear into the Everyman. Completely thick not to put in a proper loading bay for trucks and vans there, and then attempting to have a two way road …
UCC CUBS Business School given approval
Oh they'll just double park on Patrick quay instead - that's already a disaster so it'll barely be noticed
But how will the yummy mummies in the 'rovers collect Síofra and Fiachra from drama classes at the Everyman?
Handily enough. Eliminate the double and triple parking that's common on the street and there's plenty of space.
